I expected this to be the reveal of today. It's a pretty cool gameplay video with nice surprises (day/night versions & alternates). Liu is looking pretty good. Definitely one of my main characters.

However, I still think they are overdoing it with the juggles. It seems that the combo system is concentrating on juggles for at least 80%. I am not a big fan of this.

I think you're complaining just to complain. The lip syncing is perfect. The animation also seems fine to me. I don't get it. What more do you want? What does your second sentence even mean? Also, in terms of the combos...other fighting games employ the same mechanisms. Tekken, Street Fighter, MVC3, Soul Calibur...they all do it. Combos generally involve a launch and while you're up there you get pummeled. There also are breakers in MK. I don't understand what the issue is. If anything, Mortal Kombat is letting you off easy if you really want to be honest. Other fighters let you dangle in the air and once you're up there it's a wrap.

I think he's saying that the combos we've seen are about 80% juggles, 20% other.

I am not talking about 80% combos. I just made a rough estimate of all combo's I have seen in official gameplay videos so far. When a combo is executed, 80% of it consists of juggles. I haven't seen any combos exceeding 4 hits without juggling the opponent.

Ah, okay. But would you like to see longer ground combos based off of links or something like that? (Don't read that as me being condescending; I'm genuinely curios.)

That's how combos tend to work. The alternative is 7-hit on-the-ground dial-a-combos,like the kind we had before.

I simply want to be able to perform a decent combo on the ground with no juggle requirement. A lot of combo's require you to juggle your opponent at some time for you to land a few more hits, especially in tag team. Other than that, there isn't really a big gameplay issue behind it or something. I just think it looks a little silly sometimes.

It could be because I have played too much SF and am not used to juggles that much.

You know what I realize? The story mode probably won't work very well MKDC style. Think about it, if the story is to be told properly several characters will come to play, and not many times in a row.

For example, Liu Kang's chapter might be him against Goro and Shang Tsung. But then, he'll come into play again in the events of MK2 against Shao Kahn. Well, if his chapter is over, how can they tell the story?

The chapters either need to be non-character based (So you jump between fighters every fight instead of using the same character to fight say, five times in a row, then never using that character again) or dedicating more than one chapter per character. I'd rather have the former.

And the story IS important. I don't know why some of you think otherwise.

The story of this game is particularly important because it could very well change the course of MK history for the better, steering clear of the various pitfalls the series has fallen prey to over the years.

Not really. SFIV isn't operating on a dial-a-combo bases and yet has no juggles. I think its more of a MK and Tekken type of thing.

All I care about is that Armageddon is erased from existence and we can pretend that it never happened. I have no real major qualms with the MK story otherwise,so I'm not sure which "pitfalls" you're talking.

Although a couple of deaths/resurrections should probably be retconned away,too.

Oh,well,and I guess Smoke not being Noob's bitch anymore would be good. Although I didn't really mind that all that much.

I'm digging his moveset. Love the little "bring it on" taunt to Kitana, into the sweep trap. Great throw.

Too many chicken sounds, IMO. I don't mind Liu Kang spouting them once in a while as is customary, but every time he moves is a little too much, and got annoying quick.

His first in-story line was pretty corny. I was hoping dialogue would be less campy this time around, but I guess with some characters you just can't escape it. Interaction between him and Johnny was pretty cool, though - did anyone catch where they were location-wise? Is it possible that we'll get decent cutscenes this time, that don't all take place in one of the game's stages because a fight just HAS to happen right away?

Anyway, cool trailer. I'm glad for it even if the character isn't much to my liking.

LOL! Can you respect my opnion?

The game has several problems. The 3D models are poor, members of the body has no proportion and the animations are bad. Since mortal kombat 4 these issues are already in, then ok for me. Liu kang model is what most reminds me of it, so I decided to post my opinion.

I will buy and play the game anyway.

Ahh. good to see the shitstorm's died down, for the most part. Now I can post.

First, anyone who thinks story isn't important is delusional. That whole "doesn't matter in a fighting game" schtick does not apply here. Quite honestly, if people have been playing MK for gameplay purposes for the past ten years....that's awful. The story is responsible for a significant part of the fanbase sticking around as long as it has. Personally, I don't even think the series would still be around today if its plot wasn't what it was.

The voice acting is far from the worst thing I've ever heard. He sounds like English is his second language - and you know what? That's how it should be.

-Hair is too minor a detail to quibble about. Not worth my time. It looks fine in-game, anyway.

Not really feeling Cage's alt at the moment. Too dated for the 90's.....maybe once I have a better look.

Very much liking the large focus on juggle combos. It's a dynamic that hasn't felt executed properly since MK4. Dial-a-kombos were fun for their day, but I'm glad to see them take a backseat.

Not a bad video. Not as pants-shittingly awesome as Noob's reveal, but still great.

Liu has always been one of my least favorite characters, but this video makes me want to play as him right now! I am more and more impressed with every video I see.

I agree with Shadaloo about the juggles. I think that's the kind of combo action that MK needed to go back to. The beauty of MK2 is that you had to learn to juggle to get really good at that game. This time around, that appears to be the case as well, except with much faster, more fluid gameplay.

All around, this appears to be shaping up to be by far the most high level MK ever.
