Ed Boon: "Officially, it's NOT a reboot."

You could never understand how amazing it is to hear that.

That's one thing boon never lets me down with. And that's mentioning his "GOALS" without that type of empowerment. I doubt I could contain my antics.

Digital Graphic Novel styled endings?

Genius!

lol

Didn't think about that option. Awesome.

--EDIT:

Still disappointed about the Story mode being like MkvsDc's rather than like MKD's Konquest mode. It's not a "hard" disappointment though.

Everything else sounds pretty good.

Great interview. Thanks for posting.

Not a whole lot of new information, which isn't the fault of the interviewer (Who did a great job, unlike certain others), but still some nice things there. Thanks for sharing.

It was definitely an interesting interview. The idea for the endings is interesting though I would like to see FMV endings in later games. I'm disappointed with what Ed Boon said about the story mode. I hope they do it a bit differently by allowing players to choose which character's story they want to play through instead of being stuck like in MK vs. DCU. Then again, I'm still very skeptical of how the story is going to turn out. With the game 9 to 10 months away, I really hope they focus on the gameplay, storytelling, and characters, but we'll see what happens.

Great interview!

Ed surely made those "Digital Graphic Novel" endings sound really cool.

I'm sad we won't get a Konquest similar to MKD and MKA (combined), or any Konquest at all, actually.

I loved the story mode of MKvsDC, so, I'm not disappointed about it being back. However, I did/do hope that it plays slightly different and that the battles make sense.

I don't want them to go through character fights just because they need to have character fights. For the sake of the story, I much rather the story mode worked like a movie instead of anything else. I seriously wouldn't mind.

I don't think we will be able to choose a specific character. I'm thinking the storymode will follow an order, just like the previous one did.

I am Legend

Just one of many movies, and or video games that utilize this media. It's a great vehicle for story-telling and I'm excited to see them use anything like it.

The best idea i can give you is how the game infamous on the ps3's story
was told.

So the endings will basically be like the Watchmen Motion Comic... I CALLED IT!

Hearing Ed Boon say "they're certainly not just going to be still images" made me feel good grin

Bitches! Another boring ass non-interactive story mode.

I was so looking forward to an interactive story mode. Oh well. So it'll be like our personal in-game animated movie to watch then.

As for the "new" characters possibility... I hope we get a new character in place of Stryker. I mean, really.

Also 9, 10 months away from release, so that means it'll be out in March or April. Damn, a whole year away. I guess it could've been worse.

He also says "I think fans are gonna like the story twist we have for this game." What could this twist possibly be? I'm very intruiged.

Nice example, I think this is a great idea. I always loved the picture endings of MK, but with this technology they can take it to the next level. Real nice...old skool flavor with a new style.

"There was a really positive reaction from the fan base about it [Mortal Kombat: Rebirth]."

Excuse me!?!?

I don't give a $#!^ if you liked it or not. If we're talking about the Mortal Kombat fan base here, there was a mixed reaction. Just look at the forums on MKO itself! Sure, amongst non-Mortal Kombat fans, it might've been more positive. But the fans were split.
Loved the idea that Ed might consider a compilation of the MK Series for the 20th Anniversary if it's possible...That'll be in my wish list for sure grin

Sounded like Ed hadn't really given ANY thought at all to the 20th anniversary before that very moment when the interviewer asked him about it, lol.

It's kinda funny, but after watching about five of these interviews, it's pretty funny how the same questions keep coming up and the fact that he basically answers them all the same way.

"The receptions been great"

"We're not really talking about new characters at the moment."

Just something I noticed. It must suck to get asked the same exact questions over the course of a few days and then basically have to act like you haven't heard that same question 700 times already. That's PR though, I guess. lol

Anyways, as far as the new content form the interview:

I'm slightly bummed that create a character won't be an option, but honestly, I never really thought that it would be. Not for one second. I just hope they find a mode that continues to motivate players beyond playing online, because once the story mode is over, I'm going to be looking for something to keep me coming back beyond my own sheer enjoyment of the gameplay.

I do hope that they have a way to customize costumes and if they don't have that (which again, I'm not holding my breath) I at least would like to see a large assortment of alt outfits for characters. Don't just give me one original and one alt because you think you'll make it up on DLC either. That's not cool. Not one bit.

As far as long term modes, I'm still holding out hope for a survival mode. I don't know why, but I absolutely love those. I remember the first time I got 100 wins in Dead or Alive 3. Stuff like that keeps you motivated to try and get better and that's what a good single player mode can do for a fighting game.

The endings? Well... If they can make that style work, then I'm certainly open to it. I'll take that over still images any day of the week, month or year. Though it seems like a bit of an odd choice if they're going to approach the storymode the same way they did MKvsDC. Why not just have them all be full motion, but oh well.

Either way, I'm still pumped for this game and can't wait to see what EGM reveals on June 29th!!

So, I take it that fans just want another Annihilation? Seriously, I just want a movie that's not a complete crapstorm like the first two were (though I thought they were both hilariously funny!)

I lol'd about all 9 games on one disc, imagine how expensive that would be.

For real, but to have all the games in a collection would be sweet. Especially MK1-MK4 in Arcade format, or imagine them Adding an HD graphics to them wow

Only one can wish, but who knows... Would be AWESOME!!!

Unless I took this wrong, he said that the story mode will have lots of pre-rendered cutscenes, just the endings will be in the animated graphic novel style. Well then...I'm pumped! No Kata endings!!!
