I'm thinking back on that casting sheet...didn't it mention that they wanted an African-american actor to play a character who'd be turned into a robot, re: Cyrax? Does anyone know if it also mentioned Jax?
It's a long shot, but perhaps this is a badly (or intentionally bad) phrased attempt by Ed to hint that we might initially have a human Cyrax as a selectable character? I know the phrase "a character become cybernetic who wasn't before" pretty much speaks for itself, but I can't help but wonder. It would be technically correct if Cyrax started as a human. The phrase might be designed to mislead us. Yes, I have been watching too much X-Files lately.
I'd dismiss any notions of a Cyber-Sub-Zero. That notion's too silly to even consider.
Hell yes. Bring on the spinoff game.

Jax was on the same casting sheet and it mentioned him getting the arms.

Ok firstly.. I do not believe this, im jsut saying. Temp, look at your Sig, Subzero has no scar. Guess what. Could be the older brother. no such thing as noob saibot, and the younger becomes a cyborg..
for F*** sakes this better not be happening. this game is so perfect so far. Canon story can vary a bit, but DONT fu**ing change the characters in any way like THAT.
Jax can technecally be considered a cyborg already so hes out the window
Kano may have half of his head changed instead of just his eye? doubt it tho.
My guess is human and cyborg smoke transition. Its the onyl one that wont get Netherrealm studios burnt to the ground and keep the story intact.

This is basically ("kind of") talking about some form of "time-travel" (not literally, of course) where things get twisted around because one character (Raiden) knows what's going to happen.
I don't want to see the original story altered and have Liu Kang NOT winning the original tournament.
What's next? Kano never makes it to the boat, so, he basically doesn't exist in this time-line? Kung Lao is the one who beats Shang Tsung? or is it one of the predictable ninjas? Jax never gets his cyber arms? etc etc etc? I know these are rather stupid examples, but, geezz, I'm upset they are not respecting the original storyline.
I'm find with adding changes such as SOMEHOW giving Ashrah or Kenshi a reason to be around these events, but NOT by suddenly having a new champion, etc.
Hmmmmm.

My only comfort is knowing that what has happened, did happen. Even if Subzero becomes a cyborg, at least I can sleep knowing that this story occurs within the greater universe of MK where Subzero is not a cyborg. In other words, that fact that these events were caused by Armageddon is a healthy reminder that previous games are legit as ever.
But damn, I totally see what you mean, though. This feel ridiculously strange to me.
EDIT: but I got to be honest: wouldn't mind too much if Kano missed that boat.

I was hoping and praying for them to shake up and change some things just so we wouldn't be getting MK1-MK3 in a new shiny package.
But the thing that has me confused is Raiden somehow sending messages to his younger self...WTF? 0.O
Now THAT'S just downright stupid.

THIS IS AWESOME NEWS !!!!!!
Exactly what I wanted, take the existing Mortal Kombat post Armageddon, and give it the old "Star Trek", alternate time line. Excellent news.

Hm:
-Cage has Split Punch back
-X-ray is a new klose kombat type thing
-Scorpion has his calssics Spear/Slice fatality
Nostalgia'd hard
Also:
"Our approach to the characters is that we're really focusing on Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3 in terms of the roster," Ed tells us. "So for the most part if you have a favorite character from those games, you're probably going to see him in the game."
Sadly, they're not announcing any new characters – they want fans to be taken by surprise.

This is sort of disappointing, for me at least. If what Ed Boon said it was true then this time travel will have more weight than Back to the Future's" Marty making his father more confidant from the high school dance, thus, his brother and sister have better jobs, stronger relationship between his father and mother, and Marty's new Jeep ride".
At the point in a long running series the characters stories are too interconnected. Changing now that some characters are , will be upsetting. Are we going to see Liu Kang win tournaments again even after the next 2-3 MK games(2015, 2019 , and so on), even though the events are slightly changed? I think so. Shame things were sort of getting interesting with him dead and all.
Also to me it is upsetting this is yet another Mortal Kombat game that is based on nostalgia is taking place of progression. Mortal Kombat Trilogy (1996), Mortal Kombat Deception(2004), and Mortal Armageddon(2006), and now this. Three games in a row we’ve seen remakes of a lot of MK2-3’s stage. So much for new presentations, for the series. If the MK team wanted they could have made a all new MK game, that felt like classic MK , while going a new direction. The new fighting engine sounds good, but going back in time in reusing old storylines and stages sort of dulls the “New” Mortal Kombat.

It could be older sub, but it could also mean that the events which gave subzero his scar will no longer occur now that Raiden has gunned the Delorean to 88.

lol I know, that made me "o_o'" when I initially read it. I'm guessing they meant they aren't going to reveal anyone else for a while to keep up the interest. However, with such a limiting MK1-MK3 range, we can pretty much guess everyone. The only thing that could possibly surprise me at this point would be a 4-legged Motaro or Stryker making the cut.
Oh well, there goes the story. =\
"A few that stood out – Mileena ripping the head off Nightwolf then drinking blood from it"
Well that made me feel better. =]

Actually, the way it's described is more like a Super from a Capcom game. The character goes into a combo rather than a slow, clunky mini-game that there's no point using because the opponent can counter it.

I'm happy to know they are actually thinking about MKA and that they have not forgotten about the storyline (the little we got of it) and events of that game. Some characters got awesome bios that should not be thrown away (Johnny Cage, Nitara, Sonya, Ashra, Mileena, to name a few).
Anyway, yeah, I'm happy to know that at least the original official canon is intact. Whatever happens in this is because of MKA, and that is indeed a "continuation" of the storyline...in a very weird and unpredictable way.
I only hope the next ones truly focuses on the events after MKA....or depending on how awesome this game works, maybe a bit more of the same for MK4? Who knows.
Hmmmmm, after some thought, who knows?
Maybe this "mental message" is not a stupid idea, or a bad one.
Might be fun to see what's up and how these events will affect the storyline of the next game.
I just hope they don't screw it up or change TOO much in a drastic unnecessary way (like making Liu Kang not be the champion of the first game).
I'm really really curious now. This does sound interesting.
I just hope it continues the canon original storyline in a truthful way.

Lol, looks like we're getting a sequel and a remake in one. At least there will be some new stuff story wise, I just didn't want the same old same old. Glad we'll see something new.
Maybe MK10 will pick up after this one and introduce us to a few new characters/stories while also mixing it in with the old(The MK4 story) ? I guess we'll see.

I dunno, I do believe this will be a sequel AND a reboot/remake
I believe the intro will be a mix between the end of MK:A and the beginning of MK1. We'll see how things are going in the present with Blaze, and in the end, maybe Kahn will win then move in to kill Raiden, obviously we know that whoever wins, Kahn's gonna beat down the God of Thunder, then in comes the mental message, which comes to Raiden , who decides to then enter MK1 (prematurely rather than in a whole time-lock/full circle thing), then it goes to the standard game intro, and the curtain rises on a new play. with the same destination, just a different journey. I personally hope Kang DOESNT win ANYTHING cause I never cared for him

I can totally imagine Kahn beating the crap out of Raiden and then when he is about to "finish him"- the screen freezes and Raiden begins speaking in some quirky Juno-esque voiceover.
