This is FANTASTIC news!! I know that alot of people here wanted to simply play through the MK1-3 story with advanced graphics but I'm sorry, I've done that already. Many times in fact.

I love the idea of going back and playing through MK1-3 but actually ALTERING the story as I go through. I love the idea of finding out who's going to be different, what's going to change. I can't wait to see how they'll reimagine characters and their stories because Rayden is going through and changing things.

This is arguably one of the best ideas I've ever heard when it comes to Mortal Kombat. Yes, I loved the old canon story just as much as anyone else here, but this is a bold move on their part and I think that it'll make this game's story mode easily the best in the series.

So yeah, I guess this is a reboot, a remake and all that other stuff too, but it also looks like they're doing this with the idea of changing everything. So what's old is new again. This is an idea that I can get behind.

I'm not sure if they're doing this because of the clusterf*ck Armageddon turned the story in to, but while I wouldn't mind seeing the story go forward (and I really hope it does, but I don't imagine that happening in this game, sadly), I think that this is a great way to repair the storyline and also give us something that's both old and new at the same time.

I'm not saying that I want Cyborg Sonya or metal arms Shang Tsung, but if they can tell this story and make it good for each character and give each character cool costumes based on their stories, I'll consider this story mode a 100% success.

Wow, I'm about a 1,000 times more excited for this game now!!

Oh and that Mileena fatality with the drinking blood? The Sub Zero freezing the liver thing? WOW. This game sounds freakin AWESOME!!!!

The only thing I can't tell is whether we'll actually get new characters or not. Ed said that they're focusing more on MK1-3, but if that's the case, why did the IGN writer seem to act like Ed didn't want to announce any new characters at this point. I mean, he wouldn't have anything to announce if there weren't any new characters so...

Maybe this means the Strykers, Motaros, Sheevas etc of MK will be "killed off" in this retelling before they can show up and lame all over this game, only to be replaced by newer, I can only assume better characters? That would make this game near PERFECT already!

Now I'm wondering, if someone other than Liu Kang wins the tournament, then what the hell is the point of even having Liu around? He never DOES anything else but win and maybe help Kitana switch sides.

I guess it might be kinda funny if he dies early.

In fact, I'm really hoping that every change Raiden makes ends up making things even worse than they were the first time around, since like I said, in the original MK 1 thru 3, the good guys won everything all the time, so there's nothing for him to fix.

I like this idea, I just hope it won't be abused. A door to serious potential wackiness just opened; for all we know, sorcerers like Shang and Quan have protection against reality reorienting itself, as probably would Shao Kahn and Shinnok. Sorcery in the MK world gets played with fast and loose all the time, and there's nothing to say that in a post-MKA world, one of the big baddies notices Kano or Sheeva or someone disappear, figures out Raiden's screwing with time, and starts sending flunkies through a time portal. Then we get something like Future Baraka coming back into the - oh no, I've gone cross-eyed.

No, seriously. I really hope this is just a one-off thing. The cyber-ninjas were difficult enough for some people to swallow, now we're bringing in branching realities? I'll wait to see what happens, but I'm also very wary.

Also, I have this mental image of the MK cast performing the Time Warp dance a la Rocky Horror.

The more I think about it, the more I'm realizing what a fucked up ending to the old storyline this is.

I'm thinking about characters like Sub-Zero and Kitana...all the trials and tribulations they've gone through & endured....characters like Sareena and Mileena and the unanswered possible questions about their futures....essentially any character that cared about or could've cared about.......and it's all for what?

So Shao Kahn can win in order for Raiden to have a time traveling brain fart and they start all over again.

Here's one more trope for yeh:
Shoot the Shaggy Dog.

And boy, did they.

When I first read this, I was disapointed. But, like some of you, it is being replaced with cautious interest. I want to see what the frak happens, but I HOPE nothing really weird comes out of it. btw, I loved the Star Trek remake so who knows? Maybe this will work out fine.

I almost think the going back in time thing is a nod to how many problems there were in the MKDA/MKD/MKA timelines (How many people can legitimately say they liked Shujinko or the Taven/Dagon stuff)

Well, this isn't going to "fix" that. As matter of fact, those very events are the cause of the time alteration. They're more genuine then ever.
And Shujinko was total win.

Finally, something interesting from this game. Thank God this isnt just a rehash. Hopefully they clean house in mk land and we can do away with all the post mk3 silliness. And I hope we see cyber-kintaro. :D

You know what? Fuck it.

I'm excited for this game cause I want to see how they're going to tweak it all - it is indeed a reboot.

But as far as the original MK story ending...I'll just take the intro to this new game as the official canon ending to it all. If MKA Konquest is to be trusted, Tavon defeats Blaze, attains full godhood, but instead of staving off Armageddon...he just makes all of the warriors even stronger than before and increases the likelihood of it all.

Thus, they all continue fighting senselessly and in the end...Raiden and Shao Kahn are the only ones left. Looks like Shao Kahn wins in the end and kills Raiden once and for all...and God knows what Kahn will do thereafter. Though I suppose there will always be someone to stop Kahn, as Taven promised to somehow find a way to make sure Armageddon never happens. Thus, Mortal Kombat continues for eternity, and through the past 7 games we just got to see a small slice of it. It's nothing new, just the cycle in play...it's happened before, it'll happen again...that kind of thing...

If anything, I hope the opening intro gives us SOME insight as to what went on with the other guys.

And if anybody is still interested to see our favorite characters in and out of action...I suppose we can continue to follow this new alternate timeline.

Heeey, nobody messes with the Jinko!

On a more serious note. Since I've stopped laughing now (heh), I think it's pretty interesting. I really do. We get to keep the previous stuff, continue from MKA, and a reinvention?

It's not genius, it's just real slick, Ed. The genius is this guys ability to keep utilizing that cornball cleverness. It has a "pretty cool" vibe about it.

Now, I don't know what the hell to expect still, but I'm game though. Yea...we'll see.
