Agreed, although it's probably just a temporary track for the trailer.
I hope so anyway. None of the music has been any good for the 3D games, they are all too "techno" and "epic" sounding. The MK1 and 2 had the perfect music. MK3 was ok, but that's when things started getting too futuristic for an ANCIENT tournament.

MK3 wasn't about an ancient tournament though. It was about a worldwide invasion and the backgrounds were all in a wrecked city so somewhat urban sounding music was thematically appropriate.
That said, I will agree the trailer music was too generic. I hope the finished game has re-orchestrated versions of the classic tracks to go with their stages.

Agreed as well.
Sounds like something left over from MKvsDC. Like a throw away track or something. That's without knowing much about the story or mood of the game though. I expect arenas//realms like the living forest to sound competitive and terrifying. While others should sound like pure adrenaline. Really amped up, scary, and extremely competitive. I'll pass on the epic sounding stuff for this game....leave that back in MkvsDc please.

True. Actually, I probably don't give MK3 enough credit.
But they've kept on going in that direction and, especially since this is a re-boot, need to bring back in essence what is Mortal Kombat.

Well don't forget that Sektor and the City and Bridge stages are all there. What we should be hearing is music from all of the first three games wherever it belongs. On Shang's Island, we need some 70's kung fu movie jazz or something with gongs and whatnot, in Outworld, we need some creepy stuff, and in the city, go back to the techno.
And if Scorpion's Lair from UMK3 shows up? Face melting electric guitar. Because metal comes from Hell, everyone knows that.

I thought the music sucked, too. They need to find a balance between MK2/3 music, that fits the higher quality sounds of today.

MK3 music sucked.
MK3 backgrounds sucked.
MK1, MK2, MK4, MKD... now those stages and music tracks were awesome in my opinion.

The overall music has shifted themes since MKA. There was an interview with Boon I believe for MKA where he stated that he wanted more of a gladiator-movie style music score, which was quite a shift from the past MKs. MKvsDC seemed to follow suit, making it sound like a super-hero movie. I really hope they take the sound back to its roots for this game, but it's not looking good so far if the trailer music is anything to judge by.

Hmm, following that would the John Coltrane Quartet be appropriate for the Courtyard?

Well, that is certainly not jazz, but I cannot name it either. Bebop perhaps?

Yeah, I didn't think I was using the right word either but what I should've said was escaping me. I think "funk" is the proper term? "Bebop" might work too.

are you guys fucking serious? The music was the LAST thing I noticed in the trailer and will most likely have no resemblance to the music in the actual final product. It was probably just a simple track they threw in there for this trailer

I don't care about the music, because I hate Techno...
I wasn't too impressed with the music either, though I do like that style. I just hope they make it amazing again.
Hate to disagree with you, but, I think MK3 has one of the best soundtracks of the games. It has some of the best muic. The music has a nice combination of different variations that made it fun and memorable.
And as for backgrounds, not all of them were the best, but a good part of them were fantastic and among fan favorites. Mk3 delivered some of todays most iconic arenas:
The Soul Chamber
Kahn's Bridge
The Pit III
The Graveyard
The Bell Tower
The Temple
Smoke's Portal
Noob's Dorfen
etc etc etc

I'm not a big supporter of MK3's "urban gothic" look and feel either, I prefer the asian-themed Outworld stuff too.
But MK3's music has something for me that MK2's doesn't: It can get stuck in your head. I've caught myself humming some of them before. MK1 has some catchy get-stuck-in-your-head music too, mind you. Particularly the title/character select screen. I think one of MK3's tracks is actually a remix of an MK1 track, isn't it?
I actually think that's the most important thing in music, that a tune be catchy. Like the soundtracks to Superman, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings, and Pirates of the Caribbean, good background music/theme songs are hum-able.
(P.S., Is it just me or would anyone else like to see those silly Immortals tunes like Chinese Ninja Warrior hidden somewhere as easter eggs in a game for once? Use your miiiiiight...Kano fiiiiight! The world is at your feet! lol)

Still listen to the OST's all the time...lol
The MK1-3T stuff is where it's at. I like the new stuff too, so don't get me wrong here. But the first few games had you feeling like you were under attack the whole time! haha... gimme that. Less ambiance for some of these arenas, more threatening, scary, and panic attack music. lol
Play something like Midnight Syndicate's Creepy Music Box over the bios/profiles while we read or something.
Or gimme something like the movie Signs title score for the Living Forest.
Woosh...

I doubt that the trailer music will even be in the game.
It was probably just something that they put together real quickly, for the trailer.

The trailer music sounded like MK vs. DCU music. Very bad.
Bring back Forden.
Bring back Forden.
I started listening to the MKI Sega Genesis soundtrack a little while back, and it struck me that because of their stripped-down, Genesis-hardware-limited nature, a lot of the songs sound vastly different from their arcade counterparts, but in some very good and interesting ways. Hell, The Pit had an entirely different theme, and I think it was just as good as the original in its own way...maybe better. Fast-paced and eerie. The Palace Gates had a very groovy Kung-Fu feel going on. I'd love it if Dan were to somehow listen to these and incorporate elements into revisited stage themes. Either way I'm looking forward to hearing what he whips up.
