Mortal Kombat Movie Eyeing Power Rangers Star for Liu Kang
Actor seen in Black Mirror and Aquaman reportedly in talks.

So far only one feature role has been confirmed cast for the upcoming 2021 Mortal Kombat movie reboot. Fresh reports suggest a prominent actor is in serious talks to play Liu Kang. Read on:

Ludi Lin (right) as "Lance" in Black Mirror Season 5 episode "Striking Vipers".

Variety is reporting actor Ludi Lin has entered negotiations with New Line Cinema. The Chinese born Canadian actor starred as the Black Ranger in Saban's big screen Power Rangers reboot, and more recently featured as a virtual martial artist in the Mortal Kombat inspired episode of Black Mirror: Strking Vipers [pictured above].

Lin seems to be a strong prospect having also appeared as Captain Murk in 2018's Aquaman: a DC Comics superhero epic directed by James Wan, who is also serving as producer on Mortal Kombat. Born in the Fujian province, he received education in Australia, where filming will begin later this year. Australian Simon McQuoid will direct.

Liu Kang's role in the Mortal Kombat feature film will be heavily scrutinized by fans who know him best as a Shaolin Monk destined to defend the realm of Earth as champion of the Mortal Kombat tournament. His story was memorably adapted in the 1995 feature film starring Robin Shou.

James Wan has stressed efforts to "get it right", actively rebuking plot rumors. Under director Kevin Tancharoen, Liu Kang was rumored to be reinvented as a supermarket clerk. Tancharoen gave the character an amoral edge when Brian Tee appeared in the official Mortal Kombat' Legacy webseries.

Evo 2019 Mortal Kombat 11 World Championship
Kombat returns to Sin City!

The Evo World Championship is the biggest live tournament event in the gaming world, and for players in the Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition it was a chance to score major points towards the series rankings! The favourites assembled in Las Vegas with a $15,000 prize purse on the line and the biggest bragging rights of them all!

Watch: Day 1 | Day 2 | Championship

Even as Mortal Kombat 11 made its Evo debut, there was a lot that felt familiar about the World Championship finals. Sonic Fox once again proved he is the unshakeable constant of the Mortal Kombat scene, securing his third Mortal Kombat and fifth career Evo World Title! It was almost six -- he was also runner-up playing Dragon Ball FighterZ! SonicFox is technically the defending champion, having won the 2016 Mortal Kombat XL tournament -- the last time MK was at Evo.

The 2019 MK11 Grand Final was an inversion of the finish to July's CEO 2019 tournament. There, SonicFox was forced to overcome the pressure of falling into the second chance bracket. This time it was his rival Dragon who fought from underneath - but the end result was much the same. SonicFox closed it out with a clean 3-0 win.

The grand competitive stage brought the best out of Deoxys! He improved on 7th at Combo Breaker to earn his best career result, 4th behind 2016 MKXL runner-up and unpredictable excitement machine Tekken Master!

Nightwolf Arrives in Mortal Kombat 11 DLC Trailer
Nightwolf returns!

The long awaited Nightwolf reveal trailer is finally here! The Matoka warrior takes on klassic MK3 contemporary Kabal in an action packed trailer that shows off his deadly arsenal in Mortal Kombat 11. Take a look:

Tomahawk hand axes and a glowing bow & arrow signals the fusion of old and new in the Kombat Pack's next downloadable fighter!

Nightwolf walks with animal spirits beside him, unleashing new enhanced attacks with hawk and bear motifs, while also calling upon old favourites to hack, slash, spear, and strike at his rivals! Just like Mortal Kombat 3, he can summon lightning strikes and deflect projectiles. His most iconic weapons remain his deadliest, controlling the short, mid, and ranged with close quarters knife stabs, graceful axe swipes, and arrow projectiles!

The trailer pits Nightwolf against Baraka, Kotal Kahn, and newly instated Black Dragon rival Kabal, whose death culminates in another gruesome fatality for the series. Victory is punctuated with a roar echoed by a beying wolf spirit somewhere on a moonlit mountain. A cinematic capper for the hotly anticipated returning fighter!

As previously reported, early access for Kombat Pack holders begins August 13th. The trailer also confirms a Klassic Arcade Fighter Skin Pack with MK3 inspired designs for Jax, Kung Lao, and Kano.

Nightwolf is the second downloadable fighter released as part of the Kombat Pack. He joins Shang Tsung, with Sindel already teased and much discussed guest Spawn. Was Nightwolf worth the wait? Tell us all about it in the comments below and join the discussion on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!
