I noticed in one of the recent vids there were actually some sort of tech rolling going on... I hardly think there's a full-fledged wakeup system, though.

I know I am like SUPER late in this response since I'm responding to the first post in this thread, and if this has already been brought up, then I'm sorry for bringing it up again. I just didn't feel like reading 15 pages. lol.
This is in response to the issue brought up about testing characters. It was said that "they couldn't even test 24 characters" and "what makes you think they'll test 60?"
My answer would be this, and I may be wrong, but hear me out. If the costumes, moves, and fighting styles are kept from MK:DA and MK:D, then Midway will technically only have to test 11 characters (13 if Noob and Smoke are separated). Only 11 characters from past MKs haven't entered the Xbox versions. Those will require more testing than the rest, and if everything is kept the same from MK:DA and MK:D, then the rest of the characters really don't need to be thoroughly tested.

The same could've been said about MKD, but look how that turned out.

people here dont give a flyin fuck about gameplay.

the only two choices about the actual fighting (konquest and air kombat) are last sad
after this i bet boon will just keep remaking mka to keep the nubz happy...i can see it now.."MKA VOL3 SUPER DUPER SECRET ADDITION HYPER FIGHTING"
lol

lol!
Anyways, what the hell does konquest have to do with gameplay? I understand Air Combat, but konquest?

yes konquest. which is supposed to play simular to shaolin monks...meaning youll be running all over the place fighting.

That's not part of the fighting engine. That is konquest's fighting mechanics. The actual fighting is what this thread is about.

Oh...
I guess he might have forgotten to mention escapes as a replacement for blocking.
"slaps forehead"
Maybe next time someone goes to talk to Ed, they should explain the ideas in detail.
Explain even the obvious.

I think its painfully clear that this is necessary. You can't go to Boon and say, "Add a wakeup game", because he'll have no clue wtf you're talking about. Colguile's post on the previous page hit the nail right on the head. Boon literally does not even understand the basics.
Props to Dan and all the other vid makers who take the time to not only show MKD's flaws, but explain them. Props to Malone for taking the time to go to E3 and actually talk with the MK team about how to improve the game. Its easy for us to sit around and talk about MK's problems and how to fix them. These guys are doing something about it.

Throws weren't broken in MKD, so in a sense, escapes are not absolutely neccessary.
If all throws had the same properties as Sub-Zero's,Ermac's,Li Mei's,etc(chars who's throw does not launch on hit or lead to infinites) then they would not be as broken.
Knowing Midway, if throw escapes are implimented then throws would be almost completely useless at the highest level. Why? Because there is no way in hell Midway is going to give each character 2 throws. They didn't do it with a 24 man roster, and they will not do it with a 60+ roster. Because of this, if throws have an escape button it will more than likely be 1 escape for all throws.
Malone should emphasize wake up and glitches. I think throw breaks should take a back seat.

Yes bleed, myself and a few others got the MK Team to make the throws unblockable at the 2004 E3. We told them how rediculous it was and how the opponent could simply turtle their way to victory in some cases.
I plan on marching into that exhibit area, most likely the same one they use every year with the dumb-ass security check before you go in, and delivering the vids from danadbab as well as really explaining to them how they can fix these issues based on the feedback from this thread. (Off topic: They were the only ehibitor with a security check at their ehibit...go figure?).
The team is very open to suggestion at the E3 show. The games are on display for consumer feed back and improvements can be made in a short time before a games release. Just look at Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter on the 360. That game was CRAP at the show last year! Now it's godlike because of the feedback they received from the show.
Versatile:
About throws being usless at high level due to only one type of throw and throw breaks.... You don't need two types of throws for a throw break sytem to work for you. You only need to program the game to give the player who is being thrown a short window of time to break the throw, if he knows it's comming just like Street Fighter III 3rd Strike. People get thrown all the time in 3rd Strike and there is only one way to execute the throw escape for both types of throws each character has. You have to anticipate it in order to break it, just like parrying.
If you think a throw is comming and you guess wrong, you eat a combo. In short Vers, the throw break will not hurt the game, it will fix many things wrong with it. Players will no longer be able to repeatedly throw you to perform an infinite, and the characters can still keep the current throw they have. Wish me luck guys.
Peace

You're right, 3S's throw system was fine and there was only one throw escape. I didn't think of 2D fighters when I posted that.
WHat exactly do you plan on talking to them about outside of giving them the vids that Dan worked on?
Before going to E3 I would suggest Dan explaining in more detail in the videos. I'm not trying to be picky, but I believe you guys are overestimating's Ed Boon's knowledge of fighting games and MK in general. Ed Boon does not know 85% of the things that go on in a high level fight of MKD.
Before showing him the videos perhaps a detailed description of what free throws, plants, infinites, block stuns, etc are so he can understand it more easily.
I would be more than willing to help Dan in any way possible, but I cannot record.

my god there are so many different glitches w/ this game :-X
Konqrr and i should have the thread posted w/ in days..
what cracks me up the most about these people bashing us about bashing mk. is that we more then likly have played the game 100 x's more so then the folks that bash us for bashing mk. tongue
us folks that actually still play the game have a right to bitch moan and groan.
WE ARE THE TRUE FANS OF MK!!
Hopefully, you guys have already though of putting it all on a disc, with the vids, and some written documents.
suggestions on how to fix stuff, and explanations on why they need fixing.
Give it to them, so they have it on hand to work with.

I think Saty's got a point about not necessarily needing a wakeup game by simply adding options to the current tech roll. They could go with an even simpler move, by making planted bodies track in the same way a launched body tracks.
If you do a single launch attack (that doesnt plant of course), side step back and forth and you'll see the feet or head follow the direction you're stepping. If a planted body mysteriously spun like this, there would be NO FREE THROWS.
Anywho, i like the quick recovery game in Mk-D... It's likely more than anything we would actually get in a future mk wakeup game.
