Agreed, NO japanese company will be good for MK. Period like others have stated for numerous reasons.

MK should stay USA....

Midway may die, MK won't. Much too big of a name/series not to mentioned.

Best of luck to both Midway and MK whatever the future may hold, just please no foreign take overs...all I ask.

It's survived this long...in fact, it's the only major fighting game franchise still coming from the US. Considering how well MK/DC has done sales-wise, it seems like they've still got a very viable product, especially seeing how Midway can't afford to lose them...

Exactly!... Only not at all.

Tecmo could do great things assimilating MK into the DOA/Ninja Gaiden franchise. Common aesthetics forming a concept-driven relationship between two brands? Madness!!!
I doubt any Japanese company will want to even touch MK. Compared to VF, Tekken, SF, and Soul Calibur MK is light years behind in the fighting engine department. Any one of these companies would do a MAJOR rehaul and probably wouldn't cater towards casual gamers like MK always has. I'm sure MK will not die, its still a profitable name, some US company will pick it up for sure. As for Boon and Co. who knows what'll happen.

I hope that they WILL sell MK to another company that is actually good and keep the original team as far away from it as possible. Boon is not good at making games anymore. Only thing he can do is talk about something old in the game like itäs something new: "Well Scorion has a spear move which pulls the oponents closer to him" NO SHIT, BOON! SCORPION HAS A SPEAR MOVE! LIKE IN EVERY OTHER MK GAME!

I would love to see Capcom buying MK, couse they know how to make good games and good fighting games and they prooved that they are good with creating gory and violent games (Resident Evil 4) with a good story to boot. And I think they can do a way better job designing the old characters in their new look, becouse the last games Midway failed to do anything good...Well puzzle combat was good, but that was just a rip-off of Puzzle Fighter which was made by...dun dun duuun...CAPCOM!

Hm... I am an advocate of giving credit where credit is due, and I certainly am careful not to discredit companies like Tecmo or whoever else. I actually do try to think creatively when I consider these Eastern labels, but I just don't see it whole heatedly man.

I basically think they'd get the game, give it some sorely needed artistic justice, but change the gameplay into something I'd hate, and screw up the story and fantasy elements entirely. I think I'd hate playing it, but love looking at it. As opposed to now, where I pretty much like looking at it, and can tolerate playing it for the first couple weeks//months. Not to mention I loved to play the old ones (and MKSM), and loved the artistic direction the old ones were seemingly traveling in.

I don't think they'd "get it" gameplay wise, and I really don't think they'd "get it" in terms of MKs sought after fantasy, or storyline elements. Artistically though, I don't really contest. I think they could understand that completely. Albeit with a couple of probes into the surface fanbase.

After considering what I know of those companies, I think it'd definitely be a change, but just a 180 degree change. Whereby, we're missing the things we had, but sufficient (okay) on the things we didn't.

It's essentially a null and void maneuver in my book because the same anxieties would exist in the form of the exact opposites. Which by the by, is a strong reason why I like MK over those other games alot of the time.

It essentially = "as bad as it has been", in a lot of ways to me.

MK was always meant to be for casual gamers you bring nothing new .SF and SC are button masher while only Tekken and VF remain as very deep fighters .

And yes MK wont die and I think that Midway is trying its best to keep Boon and his company .A thing that was not done to SF orginal creator .

Techmo? Err I have to vote for no on that one. DOA is too similar in style to VF/Tekken in some ways.

I'd like honestly someone like Rockstar, EA or Bungie. Not only do I believe they're more familiar with MK but can definitely make it gritty MK style since they've made M rated games themselves. GTA, Halo etc. My vote if Midway should die for good.

I'm not so sure MK going to a Japanese company is a bad thing. I wouldn't underestimate the business intelligence of japanese gaming companies. They might just bring MK back to its roots because they know what made MK a succes. Unlike Midway (an American company) who ended up following the trends of fighting games that where made by Japanese companies. So that "MK should stay American ..." ..hmm..I would reconsider that.

Blah blah adjectives and verbs.

It wouldn't be the MK we already know, no.
I don't really see why it should be.

We've done that for two decades, and now that has buckled under the pressure of a company relying on it as a dated franchise known as much for it's neurosis, as anything positive.

I don't understand why anyone would expect, or want it to still be the same thing if it went to another company. It's a great opportunity to revitalize the series!

I'd regard the DOA/Ninja Gaiden formulas as examples of a freshing much needed gameplay upgrade. In a hypothetical where the series found a home there, it'd be great to see the franchise and concepts maintained, while also becoming a part of, and complimenting, a world that isn't entirely dissimilar. As a purchase, it would be nice to think they might try to approach MK on some of it's own terms, as well, like embracing and developing the fiction further.
I personally think Tecmo would be a little less obvious a buyer, and a little less predictable than an example in their approach than a Namco. That type of unpredictability excites me!

A lot of us have talked about change for a long time.
I personally hope, if Midway decide to go through with a sale, we get it.

EA USA #1 churning out a boxy, clunky, two-dee-point-five fighter isn't exactly a scenario I would think of as a triumph. I think it's time to start recognising MK as a series that isn't in a position to expect to meet rivals on it's own terms, and to recognise that as a potential positive.

Of course, if someone like Tecmo were to buy it and screw up, you can take it to the bank that I'll be first in line to bitch and moan. I am more than happy to eat my hopes, make no mistake!

It's like saying that MK is too similar in style to SF in some ways. Obviously you haven't played those games for a longer time (although it seems like you haven't played them at all). BTW, it's Tecmo.

And I have nothing against MK being taken by that company or any other Japanese company for that matter. Maybe except Nintendo wink

I'm always staggered to see the huge amount of "patriotic gamers" that exist in the MK crowd. It really is quite pathetic how anyone could wish for a company like Bungie or Rockstar to take the rights, companies that have utterly no experience in creating a fighting game. I guess quality has never been a big factor to a lot of you, though.

But... But... Those companies have been attached to game franchises that have enjoyed a vaguely similar spotlight due to post-MK controversies! Isn't that what it's all about?!

Well, that, and blind jingoism.
According to various sources prominent within the fan community, MK has outsold all it's rivals! Yay America! Awwww yeeeah!

Wow...staggering to see how many people fail to realize that MK is american obviously....if MK goes or gets bought over by foreign companies that means that's bad for our economy....and our gaming industry. But sure, let Capcom or someone that's MK COMPETITORS buy over MK and fuck it over for good.

Mortalman, I hear what you're saying but the storyline gig is pure opinion.

Overall MK>>everyone else over time. Tekken's 4 and 5 endings and story was a joke in all honestly, have you seen some of them on youtube? lol

Reason why I said I would rather see Bungie or RS is because they understand the mood, overall vibe of what MK is about unlike Capcom or Techmo...some PG13 anime company. Who cares if they never made a fighting game? The games they have made are good, that's all that counts just as much as Capcom if not more actually. *cough Halo/GTA*cough*

Don't change the subject all of a sudden, because you don't have a valid argument. That wasn't a point of the discussion.

No, I've seen them all the old-fashioned way - by playing the game. And once again "pure opinion".

Wow, no offence, but how can you be so ignorant? Really, "some PG13 anime company" - now that is just one accurate description... No wait, it isn't. Not to mention I've already told you it's Tecmo. And if that isn't ignorant as well, then you're just doing it on purpose.

Well, I'll use "opinion card" then. All your opinion...you listed yours and I listed mine. What's the problem?

And come on dude, humor me. SF doesn't look animeish remotely or PGish? In comparison to MK it looks very kiddy....yet you're trying to accuse me of ignorance.

................

I understand full well, I don't think you're getting what I'm saying however concerning if MK goes foreign.....but I really don't care. Chances are it won't happen anyway.
