Although I liked all of the characters.

My reasoning:
I preferred Khaali to Luna because I found Luna a little too good for my tastes (not enough character flaws). Additionally, I loved the atmosphere the Khaali exerted: her fighting style, her appearance. I actually really feared her. Plus, as I assumed her name was a reference to the Hindu deity Kali, the part of me that minored in Religion was impressed.

I preferred Ekimaru to Erebus because I found Erebus a little too powerful. He's a vampire, a Lycan (incidentally, I hate Underworld, so any references to that mythos bother me), and Outworld's most powerful necromancer: that's too much. He's a cross between Quan Chi, Nightwolf, and Nitara. Erebus, on the other hand, seems very well-balanced, and not overpowered at all.

I preferred Terra to Malcolm, only barely. This was actually a very tough decision for me: I really liked them both a lot. I chose Terra because (despite her similarity to Tremor, in some respects), she was rather unique. Some of Malcolm's descriptions actually turned me off (being compared to other characters, both in- and out-of Mortal Kombat). I would've preferred someone who didn't need other characters as a reference.

Although, as I said, I liked all the characters. But again: my votes are: Khaali, Ekimaru, and Terra.

The choice between Ekimaru and Erebus was really hard for me. Both fit great into the MK universe, but Erebus, despite having so much going on from a game play standpoint seems like he would be one of those "Gen" style characters that would be hard to master, but have a lot of different options, and because of that I went with him.

All six of these were great characters, but from a stand point of them actually being playable characters, I think these three would fit the best.

My Choices:
Khaali - As mentioned above, Luna seemed to lean a little to much towards the Mary-Sueish character type, and Khaali had flaws to round her out as more believable. Luna wasn't a bad character, though, and can certainly be used in the future if refined more.

Ekimaru - Erebus suffered a similar fate as Luna, just from the first sentence of his bio: "The most powerful Necromancer in Outworld....." which automatically made me cringe. It makes the character the best of whatever, and that never leaves room for growth, or for other characters to really grow around him. Making your character the 'best' or "most powerful" without having a seriously convincing background just puts your guy on a pedestal.

Terra - Malcom actually had a character I could visualize, but copied a bit too much from other characters without having enough originality. Again, a character that, if fleshed out more and fine-tuned, could be used again in the future.

About the only real option I have is to sticky it... and I fear people ignore stickies (and this forum has a lot of them already =/)

Wow I might aswell accept defeat now. I still refuse to vote for my spot so here is my votes. I guess most don't like Luna.

I edited my post above to reflect why I chose who I did. In a torunament like this, it's not so much that people don't LIKE your character, but just that in a matter of 1-on-1 and they had to chose, Khaali had the biography that appealed to people more. Take it as you will, but don't get discouraged right off the bat.

And here's why:

Khaali has been one of my favorites since they were revealed. She's kind of nasty, and I like it. Also, there's actually an opportunity in there to improve our poor Sheeva as I doubt the two would just completely ignore each other.... She's like the anti-Sheeva, who is all about loyalty and blah blah blah, while Khaali is... Not. Also, it is bold to just say "screw it... Nipples.", and I like that.

I picked Ekimaru because of his more emotionally involved backstory... While the backstory is a tad derivative of other works, I still wish more MK characters had some kind of emotional inclination to act as opposed to "just because". Other than that I just saw him as slightly better than his opponent.

Terra, I sort of picked by default. Personally I was kind of neutral toward both of them, slightly in favor of Terra. Slightly. I guess I'll include why I didn't pick the others, since everyone likes to know what people think about their creation.

I did not pick Luna because I found her lacking slightly in the creativity department. As I think someone said earlier, when characters refer to existing characters too much, they sort of lose their creative oomph. I'd have been more interested if perhaps she represented a different animal, because wolves are far too common. However, I do not think she is bad, and I think she will appeal to many people. I just prefer a character who represents something unexpected.

I did not pick Erebus because he is lacking in the same way as Luna. He's a lycan(wolves...........) and a vampire(been there), and a Lich(Lich's are as generic as they come), is modeled after the grim reaper, and is THE most powerful of his kind. Unfortunately I saw each of these things negatively, which may be my own personal bias, but at least it's honest. His fighting style was a bright spot, however, because I like the idea of a character who changes to three different shapes to make a complete fighter. I just wish he transformed into a more obscure mythical being/monster that would be more unique.

I found Malcom to be someone who could easily fit into the MK world, but would not stand out from the crowd much.... I find myself rather indifferent to him, and like I said above about the others, he needs something special.

Erebus had a great bio and I was thinking wow where is the creator going to go with this and then I read the creature transformations. Which are cool but I think they would do better in another game or their own game.

Match 3: Hard match to call at first I I read Malcolm's Bio thinking some what new but with shades of copying Striker/Kabal but then I read on learning about his moves and I have to say I love the ballistic knife and flashbang. However, a playable Goddess (an earth Goddess at that) is a new entity all together. Well thought of earth based moves. Great character and I wouldn't mind playing as her (as long as I don't have to use her axes.)

reasons for voting: FOR Khaali- spider like movements and gruesomeness perfectly fitting. She seems like she has the motivation and ruthlessness that Sheeva seemed to lack in this last game, enough so that I could see her dominating the Shokan and maybe others. Nice and troublesome moveset. AGAINST Luna- This was sooo close its not funny. Really thought that association with Nightwolf works, what it came down to really was originality of the moves. Most of Luna were her own, a couple shared with her brother Nightwolf, which is understandable still, but I had to go with Khaali in the end. FOR Ekimaru: If Dragon Ball Z and MK ever met up, Ekimaru would be the cause lol. Awesome character, I like the simplicity, and even tho is fire based, moves are unique and easy to visualize. Good orgainziation with story, and he got balls to go at the Elder Gods like that lol AGAIINST Erebus: Too much similarities with many of the Nether Realm characters, I think it would be hard for him to stand out. A few good moves, but I think all the for changing would be choppy in gameplay Epic ending tho.I also kind of feel that with work, Erebus would be a great super-hybrid boss or sub boss, a mix of a lot of the current ones FOR Terra: I already raved about her in another thread, but still one of my favs so far. Awesome design, only thing wrong is alot of the moves I feel Tremor would have a problem with. BUT I would actually prefer Terra as a sort of counter to the seemingly untouchable bosses. AGAINST Malcolm: I feel that Malcolm would blend in perfectly with where you put him in the story, the black dragon clan. But he seems way too similar to a few of the members already, and I feel like his rivalry with Kano really belongs to Kabal. Both of the fatalities are definately game worthy in my opinion tho.
