I mean, when we had no idea what was going on, and we were throwing out ideas of what we wanted and what should be in it, did you get what you wanted so far?

I did :) I asked for Reptile, and I got him, so I'm happy. Pretty happy Sektor is playable too.

Now. I mentioned how I wanted to see something similar to the CSI-effects that were in Blitz: The League. Like when you land a big hit, it shows an x-ray of the damage. I'm pretty happy to see that was put in.

I got my two favourite characters back in Raiden and Kung Lao amongst other favourites.
Aside from that, the rest remains to be seen. A possibly story looks like it'll be a reboot of some sort but you never know what they'll do. Hopefulyl they'll surprise us. The gameplay is looking decent, fast and fluid and hopefully it will be brilliant by the time the game is released. More importantly, I hope it's fully tested both on and offline for glitches and all the rest of the nonsense that has plagued MKD and MKA. Finally, I'm hoping a more polished end product is presented to us on release. One that looks like the dark, gritty, future MK they promised.

I was of two minds about what the next MK should be.

Half of me wanted a new story with my favorite new characters like Kenshi and Sareena in it.

The other half of me wanted a second try at the Shaolin Monks "retell the originals in more detail" concept.

And then the ugly Rebirth trailer came out and ALL of me decided that the most important thing I wanted is an MK that stays true to its colorful, magical roots.

So I guess when you do the math, 75% of me got exactly what it wanted. That's pretty good.

Yes. I wanted 2.5D, Tag team, classic characters, classic levels, a strong story mode, and Johnny Cage. Not too shabby Netherealm studios.

All of my favorite characters CHECK
Old School Mortal Kombat feel CHECK
Gorey Violence, Classic Gameplay, and Crisp Graphics CHECK

I'm with it, can't wait MK Team is staying true to what Mortal Kombat is and will always be.

Fuck your reamagining of Mortal Kombat haters, you don't like the way Mortal Kombat has been then go find a new game.
Yes, so far everything is awesome and they still have 9 more months to work on it, so I'm sure when the game comes out, it's going to be epic.

This being my first post since the video was released. I held all words, now is a time to be compiled and clear. That being said.

this is exactly what I wanted MK9 to be, an MK game with clear attatchment to its roots, combo system that allows the integration of chosen special moves at chosen times, looks to have pro-moves, a clear focus on skilled and dedicated players being really good if they master a certain character. Fatalities happening in the light and not a darkening atmosphere add a whole new feeling of realness to the gore. I felt like I was about to see a live execution and it deffinately hit me harder than any previous fatality without even showing the gore.

Although this game may look like a reboot back to MK1-MK3 era. Even if this is true, Characters from MKA and before will be included at least as part of the arenas(similar to the dark prison form MKD).

At one point we see kenshi vs Daegon in place of blaze and "hornbuckle" in the Classic MK2 background, another part I see what looks to be Daegon vs Quan Chi(I think). at the end when Kung Lao strikes a pose, Kira is locked up in the palces that Kano and Sonya had in MK2. Looks like thos characters will likely be thos who are not included as this concept is not unfarmilliar.

To be fair, I could be wrong and all the characters including playable ones could be randomized for the background. At this point tho, I am going to Rule out Kira, Kenshi, Daegon and whomever that is (probebly Quan chi) featured alongside daegon in the shot of that level during the uppercut and flash before.

The way Im looking at it, it seems the NPC characters are a simple easter egg for all the MK fans of these characters that are not included. They wanted to make this game for the fans, afterall.

Bottom Line. I am more excited than ever for this game and It is exactly what I want and more. _JRF_ scared the breathe out of me with the 2D news and I knew the only way I would like it is if it was something like this. And now it seems so right. 3D graphics on a 2D fighting mechanic. Throw in some pro-moves, tag team option, online tournaments and combo challanges unlocking valued Kontent, I will be first in line for this game.

Congrats MK team and MK fans, this game looks amazing and well worth the wait.

It looks like it will turn out to be a complete and real mk game this time around. By that I mean it looks like the mythology will be there and intact hopefully well. Also its straight mk so I just hope the story is great. Looks like could be a retcon which I'm fine with at this point or looks like could maybe take place between mk 2 and 3. So honestly I do hope for a lot of story and that the fatalities are as good as hyped to be. Reason why I care about story so much though is because looks like the gameplay is basically same as MK vs DC and I hate that game so much because everything sucked about it without the true mk components. Anyways I plan to get this new game. I hope the fighting turns out not too broken so its still somewhat fun to play online unless the servers just suck like they did with the last game.........

I'm pretty happy. Throw in Sindel and an MKD-style Konquest mode and I wil fight Casselman for the first spot in line.

I am incredibly happy. I love the 2.5D gameplay style. Reptile is in and looks legit. Sub-Zero's sword stab looked brutal. Tag battles look fun. From the sound effects alone, Fatalities are going to be awesome. Hopefully E3 will show alot more gameplay and further fuel my excitement.

Side note, Casselman I am surprised you didn't mention Sektor being included in your post haha.

Really happy. I haven't seriously played an MK since UMK3. The 3D games were bad and I lost interest in the franchise. But I'm totally hyped like i used to be as a kid. This has been the best week to be an MK fan in a long long time.

And they have another like 9-10 months to work on this thing.

LOL. we will give them a show to remember, or we could go play some 2v2 online tongue

@Travm013
Oh believe me it was tempting. Im trying to have an unbiased mind about this game. _JRF_ told me a while ago tha the was in MK9 via Private Message so I was calm about the whole idea. He will be 90% of my playing time, I am sure of that.

YES!

The arenas are AMAZING. They look really immersive and beautiful. I'm also happy to see several classic ones like Shang Tsung's palace from original, The Street from MK3, and The Pit 2! I'm loving this!

The characters were quite a shock. I totally didn't expect to see Sektor, Mileena, Nightwolf and Cage, but I'm so happy to have them!

2 on 2 is FINALLY back! Yes!

Looks like a great old school MK.

I just hope the story is once again about warriors fighting in a tournament.

I am so excited for this new game. Old school is what I love the best still and as long as Johnny Cage is in it that makes me even more hyped up im def ready to see what and who will be in the game it makes me excited and im def looking forward to playing this having a MK old school feel but have bloodier or darker fatalities and alot of effects on the fighters as well like blood and sweet and of course specific marks on their body where they been cut, stabbed, bruised up etc.

So far? A lot of things, but still not enough:

WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY grin

Johnny Cage is back and he looks freaking amazing. Some of those moves he did are superb.

Mileena is kicking butt and I'm glad they are still favoring the evil clone instead of the other Edenians (give me Sindel and I'll smile ear to ear). Both she and Johnny Cage deserved a spot in MKvsDC, so, I'm glad they have not been forgotten.

Sektor looks superb, and I'm very glad to see Nightwolf, Raiden, Reptile, etc. Overall, I'm very happy with the cast and what will probably be the final roster.

I'm also happy with the excellent effects, the beautiful impressive arenas, the classic/iconic/trademark special moves, the high quality of the Shao Kahn/Raiden fight, etc.

Gameplay looks promising and super fun.

Awesome easter eggs, nods, and fun trivia and secret/specific details for the fans!!

WHAT WE NEED

An amazing storyline.

An amazing extensive super long and super detailed story mode with brilliant cut scenes and memorable moments.

NEW character designs for the classics. I am not too excited/happy to see old costumes and old designs all over again. I seriously hope for new alternates and innovative fresh designs so the game itself feels new, fresh, and like something we haven't played before. I don't like feeling like I'm seeing MKD and MKA all over again.

I'll post more later.

Admittedly, this game has me giddy with excitement grin

I know it will be a blast and I have the utmost faith in the MK team. From what I can tell from the trailer, me and many other Mortal Kombat fans are going to get exactly what we hope for.

By the way, I rather enjoy this topic! Reading some of the other "hopeless MK is doomed" topics had me feeling rather negatively about the MK fanbase... at least on this site. I don't see why people are already raising their blood pressure over a game that has nine months of developing to go!

I feel really good. Minimal concerns or complaints on this first day.

The only things I don't see there right now that I know I wanted:

1.) a new art style for the game - Doesn't look like I'm gonna get my way on this one. I really wanted this game to be undeniably badass visually. All the other big names have this really great "new-ness" to them, while still managing to stay really familiar and true to their brand.

MK just didn't step into their own skin here. They went backwards artistically....they played it safe. So it's not "undeniably badass", it's more like "arguably good for what it's worth". It does look "now-gen" though so... what are you gonna do? (Renders please?)

2.) a MKD//MKSM styled Konquest mode/+/Kreate-a-Kharacter put together as one big lovely mode of storyline goodness....yes...mm... *Still yet to be seen what this is all about, but I feel positive about it right now.

3.) a Sequel to MKA as far as the story element goes...not a reboot, rehash, or re-whatever the hell else you wanna call it. I wanted a continuation from the pre-existing. I wanted to know what happened next, and see how they'd fix all the whooha that MKA didn't finish.

I hope the story element of the game is really something because, us story fans took a pretty good kick in the nuts on this one. Sequel was the way to go...sequel, man. Geeze...

Save the character wants for when someone makes that thread. heh...i know it's comin'.

===
-- But hey, they paid great attention to all of our gripes and you can see it so, I'm gonna show 'em I appreciate the work and go buy the damn game. I'm sold already.

So far I dig what I've seen. I was expecting a little more of a darker tone. Not a big deal if it plays great and has some depth. I've been a Reptile fan since MK2 so I hope he's got some better specials, like a decent forceball. Sektor is another favorite and he looks promising so far. The backgrounds look great...the deadpool and living forest in particular. I can't wait to see more footage, and what is playable at E3. I'm not loving the March 2011 release date...meh.

I'm trying to be cautious after MKA (decent, but a letdown), but seeing the arenas, characters, cameos, gameplay, cinematic (want more!), character intros (if they were intros), and TAG-FREAKING-TEAM (waited for that since after MK:4), I cannot help but be extremely optimistic! MORTAL KOMBAT!!

I can't wait for this game. I am fired up to play on a 2D playing field so projectiles actually become useful again. I was getting tired of playing the recent games that focused on the button-tap combos rather than the special moves.
