Awesome! Kang's new look is fantastic! Better than the miniskirt pants he wore in the X-ray video! He also looks young.

But I do hope he has his alternate from MK2 onwards (the red and black).

Of ourse, hope he gets his old moves back, and the dragon fatality (bite me?)!

You do know that is the same outfit he wore in the X-ray video that is seen in the render??

I'm guessing some kind of double high/low fireball would be one of them. And his two special kicks might have different trajectories or something.

Why do you yawn? Aren't you excited to see the new render of Liu Kang?

Anyway, Liu Kang's face looks so much better. I can't wait to see his intro and victory pose!

"Orphaned at a very young age, Liu Kang was raised by Shaolin monks, who taught him the way of the spiritual warrior."

He was an orphan? Is Liu Kang the name he was given? His parents deceased?

Yes, it was discussed a couple pages back, in the original Mortal Kombat 1 comic, which is canon, his bio listed his parents, named Lee Kang and Lin Kang, as both deceased, so that's always been there.

It was mentioned in the movie too, that his parents died when he and his little brother were young and they both grew up in the Order of Light. Unlike the movie, though, his having a brother was never important in the games. The comic bio lists the brother as missing and he was never brought up again.

Sometimes writers write things that aren't meant to be actual characters, they just flesh out the background of those who ARE characters. It's been 8 games, if Chow Kang or Sub-Zero's sister or Johnny Cage's ex-wife or Sindel's hairdresser or Stryker's grandma or the third monk from the left in the Courtyard audience or the third monk from the left in the Courtyard audience's housecat were ever gonna be important to the plot, they'd have showed up by now.
And that applies to people who want Great Kung Lao or Jerrod to come back to life, too.

Its just not taking advantage of geekdom. What if in MK2 they made it that it was Chow that was fighting in the pit background. Chow would be like the ultimate superunlockable. I mean sub's sis etc. may not have anything to do with fighting so it makes since not to bring them in, but by all comic book rights, Chow should have made an appearance.

Say maybe a Quan Chi or Shang finds Chow and tortures and brainwashes Chow into hating his bro and whatnot, since they havent had much luck in stopping the champ. Then comes back with a psycho grudge and challenges his bro.

Maybe not something so cliche but thers some potiental. wasted. :/

Why make a Hsu Hou whenn you have a Chow Kang just sitting there. A legacy. Automatically expands the mythology. What a waste.

A suggestion of my own, then:

Chow Kang was one of the monks in the first level of Mythologies, where Scorpion and Sub-Zero both raid the Shaolin Temple to steal a map. One of the ninjas killed him. He's considered "missing" because little bits of shattered frozen person are hard to ID, especially by people who don't keep fingerprint or dental records.

There, now you can stop worrying about why he's never been in a game.

Why was he in the Shirai Ryu place? Was he on a mission? Who is he working for? What happened when Quan brings him back? try harder.

Uh...no, the rule is henchmen and supporting cast are the ones who never come back. What happens to him is he goes to heaven, like any peaceful monk who died in self-defense.

I think the purpose behind it is to avoid similarity between characters, and would it not be matemathically improbable that only a small group of characters with identical backgrounds, Chows and Lius family would continuously resurface to combat the antagonists?

Plus, the creators want to implement new characters and designs. They need to, hence why new characters ae added. Same with Tekken, Virtua Fighter or any other game.

The suspect reason behind Chow not appearing is redundancy to the original plan of the plot and the story.

I just can't give the MK writers that much credit. They get a big fat kick out of Meat and Mokap and 2 Ch/Kameleons anf hundreds of ninjas, but they deem Chow redundant and cheapening to the storyline.

:/

They don't "get a kick out of" the Chameleons, they seem to rather dislike using both of them and only put them in Armageddon due to fan demand for a "complete" roster of every character ever.

Why we want another shaolin monk? Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kai. We don't need Chow Kang, Tremor or Lord Jerrod, we need more work to the +60 characters, or completely fresh new characters.

Completely off topic, but... I remember a couple of early screen shots from MK4 that had a lot of people speculating Chow Kang was going to be a playable character... it ended up being Kai

Sub-Zero's sister = is actually Skarlet and not Frost!

Fuel the fire baby... fuel... the fire.

Seriously now, Liu Kang's new look is top of the shelve. I wonder if his alt will be more MK1-ish? With the white shoes...lol I would probably hate it. haha..

His alt had better be something drastically different. Even as a zombie he was wearing the red pants.

You can bet your sweet asses the Dragon Chomp fatality will be making a return. NRS has catered to most our every desire with this game, that will be no exception. I am sure it will look great, too. I can only imagine the entrails dangling from that mouth. Can't wait.

Liu has never looked better. Thoroughly impressed. Been waiting since day one to see him and now that I have, he looks just perfect. I hope he is the fastest character in the game and really can fuck up some shit with combos. Imagine!!!!!!!!!!

Here is hoping from an MK1 alt/dlc though. I want classic costumes for EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

So happy about Liu being confirmed, as he's in my top 2 favorites. New look is excellent, really glad they did something different than the red stripes down the sides of black pants.

My only hope is that he has the dragon bite fatality, which I bet is in there already.

I actually kind of like this face for Liu. I agree it needs to look more Asian, and I also agree it doesn't look much like his face in the IGN vid, but the IGN vid is probably a little deceiving given the angles.

Overall, it looks good. I have never been excited about Liu Kang before. This is new to me.

He definitely needs to look more asian.

He actually looks more like someone from the Aral regions in Asia. Good job with the pants, and the face.

If the plot goes the same, nothing will change except cosmetics, which mean only that Kang probably becomes more fun to draw. Not necessarily enjoyable to watch in action.
