...Notice they keep saying "SALES of MK vs. DC are nearing 2 mil SHIPPED?" SHIPPED and SOLD are not the same thing. They're trying to word this as optimistically as they can. And yes, a Chapter 11 means they can keep operating--IF a judge allows it. Neither I nor any of you know what a judge will do.
This is hard to say, as I used to be a proud Midway supporter, but given how ticked I am about this last MK game (not the "vs DC" bit, i could've stomached that--it was the roster and abandoning of the old fighting engine in favor of a glorified 2D one that I took a dislike to), I'm ready to give up: I'd like MK to be handed over to a new company at this point. I wouldn't even mind Boon being shown the door if it means MK'll try to develop their characters a little... as is, almost all of them are horrible stereotypes that do nothing out of character, ever. That's right Liu Kang and (certainly) Scorpion, I'm looking right at you. Of course, it's hard to stomach bad writing/flat characters when you're an English major, so I'm certainly being harder than most would be.
Here's hoping MK itself survives... but I wouldn't mind if the MK team was broken up and a fresh set of eyes took over.

i for one would not buy an MK game if it were made by someone other than the MK Team and Midway, cause if, say for instance, THQ picked up the MK brand, there's no way they'd do the game justice, same with EA or any other company, and i doubt the MK team has the money to make the games on their own without another publisher or someone else backing them, so if Midway dies, than Mortal Kombat dies, period!

This sucks.. i don't blame MK vs DC(it sold very well). I really want a MK8 ,made by the MK team if possible. if it's not possible, then namco should take the project on: They are pros of the fighting mechanic ---> BUT, they must keep the MK spirit! They must not make the MK franchise a childish kawaii OMG yaoi kyaaaaah wapanese game like the tekken games of today(since tekken 5).

An unfortunate, yet inevitable turn of events.
Hope everything works out alright, and MK is someday returned to it's former glory. Will something like that happen? Probably not. But I guess it's time to wait some more.

I think this is a step in the right direction(albeit an unfortunate one to have to make). There is life beyond chapter 11, just ask K mart.
Midway has to choose their next steps cautiously. The best thing to do is to continue with the i.p's they already have, instead of banking on a bunch of unproven franchises(however promising they look). The wheelman is not going to do anything. This is Vegas seems interesting, but honestly, can it break out of the pack and give us anything different. Look at Midway's catalog here, MK(which they're milking to death), Psi Ops, The suffering, Area 51, TNA impact(the original showed potential, but the sequel has to be given more dev time), Rampage, the list goes on and on. Instead of building and improving on what they have, they're putting all their eggs in the new I.P. basket...which is not a smart move these days.
A couple of suggestions.
Area 51- Make a light gun game for the wii akin to the arcade originals.
Rampage- The 3d game that was put out wasn't bad, just more of the same. I say go for more of a "war of the monsters" approach to the game. And if you havn't played war of the monsters, do, it's a pretty sweet game.
Psi Ops- The original was great, albeit, a little ahead of it's time. But games like this are huge money makers these days, let the same dev house have a crack at another.
TNA impact 2- Like I said earlier, the first title was lacking in nearly every aspect, but what was there showed potential. They've got the foundation set for a great wrestling game, hopefully they make the best out of the original's missed opportunity.
The Suffering- Great series. The first one ruled, but once again, the second suffered(huh) from more of the same stuff. Survival horror/action games are pretty big right now(Dead Space, Resident Evil 5, Left 4 Dead) why miss their opportunity to put out a great piece of software to capitalize?
Mortal Kombat- O.K., you guys took the gamble on MK vs DC and it looks to have paid off( just under 2 million and counting), but the time to put the focus back on your core audience is NOW. There is apparently already another MK adventure game in the works(if it's as good as MKSM, I have no problems with this). But the next fighting game has to be the love note to the fans that MK vs DC was not. The fighting engine was indeed a huge step in the right direction. Build on it, FIX the story, bring back the gore, and you've got a happy fan base(well....bezou probubly won't be
) but you get my point.
I don't know, this is just one man's opinion. Work with what you've got before dumping money you don't have into the next random I.P. What's the last NEW i.p. you saw activision put out....and they're like, the only game company that saw anything close to a profit this year. There is a lot to work with here, if you put it into the hands of capable people.

Looks like the next step for Midway is to sell one of it IP .There are rumors that they will sell it to ubisoft
http://www.gamespot.com/news/blogs/rumor-control/909119209/26778933/the-wheelman-flees-to-ubisoft.html
But I dont think so , seeing that the game has 1 month left to be released .It will be a stupid idea to sell it .

Wow, if that turns out to be true, and they feel that they can make more money selling it to another company then the general public, they must've not had much faith in it anyway. Which brings me back to my other post.

Was watching X-Play earlier and heard this. This sounds really bad, but it depends really, how much it actually sucks.
This means that their next couple moves have to be magnificent though.
Good luck.

Now is definitely the time for Psi-Ops 2, much more can be done with the powers with this generation of consoles. Just look at Prototype, that game has some insane shit.
A new Suffering would be good to have. Give it a new setting, new protagonist, new enemies, and you got something going.
Giving us the Mortal Kombat we've been asking for would be a pretty good fucking idea, Midway. You've pissed off a lot of fans with the last few games. Nobody was expecting the crossover, nobody really wanted the crossover. Come on, the UT3 engine opens up a new level of gore to be given to us. Fucking use it to your advantage!
Rampage is a dead franchise if you ask me. After World Tour they all became the same shit..except for the party game, that was kind of odd.
Area 51 holds a lot of potential if you'd do it right. Do a light gun game with it, it's what got Area 51 popular in the first place.
CarnEvil, now you could do a survival/horror on this. It'd be fucking awesome.
Improve the TNA games, take what made the first one mediocre and make it good. Better character customization would be nice. {though making my wrestler look like a black metal guy was pretty awesome}

To Midway it is. Midway is selling their product to retail distributors, not the public itself. Whether or not a store has a pile of unsold copies doesn't affect Midway at all. Those stores still have to pay for the copies they ordered.
As long as Midway has to keep shipping copies, that means the game is selling and stores are selling out and need to order more.
What did you think, stores send Midway a sum of money each time they sell a copy of MKvsDCU?

I also want to add that many other games COs use the terms "ships "" so why do you always blame Midway .
If MKvsDCU was a bad game and did not sell well , Midway would be filling Chapter 7 .

no company is stupid enough to risk bringing on the mk team to produce games. It's a huge risk, honestly if Midway was stupid enough to think that mk vs dcu was enough to save them and it didnt what makes any other game developer to think its going to help them financially. Companies all over the world play the numbers game to make themselves look good. There wasnt enough copies sold to help Midway and other companies see that. It's over

The game did good .better than many games released in the same months .It is just Midway has many proplems that cant be cover by one game nopt even if it was MGS .
I think that Midway is able to repay the debt but wont have enough money to operate after that so, they are trying to get things right .
I would rather see MK dying forever rather than getting picked up by a CO that would make it bad .
