I honestly don't blame Boon for saying so or if he was a little annoyed, I mean I'd probably be a little annoyed myself for reading so many inaccurate assumptions based off little info honestly. But also glad to see he read most likely a few of my posts among other "objective MK fans" since he pretty much quoted some of my posts "Nobody's played the game yet, how do you know" I've must have said that god knows how many times...!QUOTE>

He read and quoted your posts in the interview? Really? Let us not get ahead of ourselves, young grasshopper. grin

Boon didn't sound annoyed at all to me in the interview, though I can understand if he felt that way. He handled it quite diplomatically nonetheless. When you put as much time and effort into a project as the MK team surely have, I wouldn't fault them for wanting us to wait and see before spreading unfounded negative rumors (and no, I'm not all about that and that has nothing to do with critical analysis of what we've seen). But he also made sure to stress many times in the interview that he is pleased that MK can still elicit strong reactions from fans and that he understands the concerns. I think that's important to note.

As for the whole nobody's-played-the-game-yet bit, you're right of course, but the internet's really putting a stop to the days when a game company could simply announce a project, put out a few select interviews with paper game magazines, and release the game. There's a lot more communication between fans and developers now (as it should be). We take for granted these days that we can get friggin' video clips delivered to our PC in seconds. And I think the MK team in particular has done a great job in reaching out to fans (with Fight Nights, Q&A sessions, fansite-exclusive content, and now podcasts). And for better or worse, all of this new information and this thinning of the barrier between consumer and producer brings with it kind of an expectation of our opinions mattering. I think in some ways the MK team has brought this upon itself by being so open with us. I just don't see it as a bad thing is all.

Hell, for all we know, it could be because of the "haters" and their "bitching" that we have fatalities now. The man himself said he listens to and cares about the opinions of MK fans in the interview- is it really that hard to believe? Yes, we'll get to really judge the game when it's out and in our hands, but if we have any sway over the opinions of the MK team (and it seems we do, at least to a certain extent), why wait until it's too late to do anything about it if we see something we don't think we'll like?

This is one of the reasons I love the internet, the fact that this kind of discourse is even possible. This shit absolutely fascinates me. The internet turned Trent Reznor from a scary, larger-than-life music celebrity into a geek who blogs, bitches people out on NIN fan message boards, and distributes music digitally. I love it.

Agreed.

I especially share the opinion that if it's possible to influence the end product, say something before hand.

Closed mouths DO NOT get fed. I mean, unless you're ill...then there the I.V...Aheh, but that's besides the point.

Another thing is, if "in-development" is any indication that things can be manipulated while in the process, certainly one of the most effective methods of getting a message//demand across is through the internet.

Especially the more reasonable, and understanding that things can become the more the line between developer and fan is thinned. Like you said.

I must admit, I'm happy to hear this news. The in game screenshots actually encouraged me quite a bit as well. The shot with Scorpion and Flash actually made me go Holy Sh!t. It look pretty damn good. Fatalities are back, good to hear. I'm not too concerned with the t-rating now that i've had time to digest it. As someone pointed out before, there have been some pretty violent t rated games in the past.

Thank you Boon for this interview. Can't wait to see some gameplay.

In the third question Ed Boon has this in his answer: Certain animations, blood effects, and sound effects that we have in the game are really pushing the T-rating envelope.

T-rating??? Does that make anyone else worry? Actually I had read years ago on the ERSB website that blood = Mature unless it was a spot of blood.

In one of the further questions:
EB: The MK team definitely wants to please the fans. That has always been our number one goal.

If fans were pleased why do they go on these forums and say how Armageddon could be better?

That pic looks really cool, but I hope it's not the arm breaker from Armageddon carried over. I don't want to see a single piece of animation carried over.

I think they should get more mo-cap guys. Carlos has done good work, but he's just one guy. It would help with the movement and animation.

I'm not worried at all, and as for MK games or any games for that matter you'll always find people that like a game and don't like a game. Happens with all games, not just MK.

I think people with that kind of "never being pleased mentality" need to practice a more realistic one since we are all human afterall. Nobody's perfect and you have to realize in MKA, different fans wanted different things so when a fanbase is so divided on lots of different issues, all the developer can do is try to implement everything or as much as they can to please everyone.

Those fans however that demand "perfection" are kidding themselves because no game is perfect or without some kind of flaw.

Heheh, sorry about that, I hope it came across jokingly smile In all seriousness, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if members of the MK team have read and taken into account your views, as it's pretty obvious that some of them browse the forums (Hi, Ed!). Certainly, he's aware of your position and that of fans like you on the board; it seems to be the majority opinion of posters here. And honestly, I do think that's a good thing, because it's important that the guys making this game know that we're all not a bunch of cynical bastards like me smile They really do a great job for the most part.

I see what you're saying now that I think about it and read it again a few times I don't think Boon sounded "pissed" or anything, but definitely firm on his view to put this whole "OMG fatalities gone" nonsense to rest lol. Yeah, he covered pretty much "all kinds of MK fans" his best quote though IMO was "MK fans never cease to surprise us" or whatever lol.

Oh, I agree. He definitely wanted to stress that we should at the very least wait for firm facts on the game before passing final judgment. I think a game series like MK is especially ripe for unfounded rumors spreading- it's happened many times in the past (I remember seeing some bogus magazine article about a hidden palate-swapped version of Liu Kang in MK2 with extra moves and actually believing it). It's worked in MK's favor in the past, because it can build excitement about the game, but in this case I think Ed & Co. are in a position where they wouldn't want it to spread like wildfire, given the somewhat controversial nature of the DC tie-in.

Some people probably did take the early mini-interviews where Ed too seriously when he didn't have a firm answer to give yet on fatalities. Hell, I was one of them- it kinda pissed me off. But it all worked out, at least. I think that after E3, hopefully the MK team will shower us with more info so that we can get a better idea of what to expect and hopefully put some of the unfounded rumors to rest.

"You also brought up a good point concerning Midway with the Chats, interviews, MKO exclusives etc which is another reason why I'll be honest, sometimes some fans on here bother me with the "ripping Midway or Boon" because it's things like that that prove that they reach out to the fans, care otherwise would they do so? They don't have to take the time to chat with fans, Q & A, chat with MKO etc you know, but they choose to which I like. Other companies don't even do that you know? Midway may not be perfect, nobody is but I do believe honestly and agree that they do care about the fans. The challenge is "pleasing ALL of them"

You know what? You're absolutely right. The MK team has built this huge, rabid fanbase while cultivating one of the most popular, longest-running fighting game series in video game history. I don't envy the MK team for being in the position of having to please as many fans as possible while still answering to DC, Midway and (vicariously) Midway's shareholders and whatnot. And I can understand how some people might come off as taking for granted the work that they do- it can't be easy undertaking a project like this, and for someone to seemingly disregard all of that and say such and such looks like shit isn't right, I'll readily admit that. People can be shitty no matter what side of a debate they're on.

I think, in the end, everyone here really agrees on more things than we disagree on. At the very least, if we're posting on this board, we can assume that we all have one thing in common- a love of MK. Here's hoping MKvDC is the best it can be. I know I'll be playing it like a junkie either way glasses

Pretty sure after the outcry that Boon reconsidered the fatalities.

How are they keeping this Teen?

Regardless, I am now closer to buying than renting but not 100%

By the way, is Ghost Rider DC?

Anyone think they would put Lex Luthor in a robot suit as a boss? I hope they don't go that route. Doomday please.

Ghost Rider is actually a Marvel character.

As to the thread:

Absolutely LOVED this interview and the pics that came with. The sharper images only prove more so how good the game looks visually. Very very good stuff in this interview. Fatalities, finishers.. meh, not really caring a whole lot at the moment (as one or the other is fine with me, so long as you get a cool way to finish your opponent.)

I'm actually more focused and concerned with the Roster. I already got Sonya from MK.. so long as I get Black Canary I'll be happy.

Alot of us missed it because we were so hooked on the screenshots. Supposedly the mag confirmed Flash(true), Wonder Woman, Green Latern, Power Girl, Hawkman, Robin and Black Canary.

I think Power Girl is the only one I'm "meh" about. She's cool and all (and I suppose her...ahem...assets...make good for a typical female character in a modern fighting game) but that spot could be better used for a female who isn't Superman-lite. Zatanna or Fire would be neat. Though I suppose Power Girl is more well known and helps represent the Justice Society. Though I personally would have preferred Captain Marvel or Dr. Fate for that job.

lol, ohh it's ok man I took it with laughter dude. : ) But yeah just in case Ed is reading this, What's up Ed? lol keep it going dude, you have my support and understand every new game is a challenge for anyone. : )

Yep, totally agree dude. Midway is just one of those companies like the many with a hugely popular series like MK, like some others say Halo, GTA etc that are american made and have lots of demand for it among the people they work for as you mentioned. For the most part I believe now that a lot of MK fans mostly agree, when this game was first announced initially with little info I don't believe that was the case with the outcries vs. optimistics but now I definitely agree, most fans are looking forward to it, love the graphics and way it's playing out indeed.grin

I agree! I'd like to see who they have in mind for the villains. (Though it's probably not all that difficult to figure.) Still some info on the villains would be nice.

TTT: I concur about Power Girl, she's just not needed. The slot would have been better suited to someone else. As far as Justice Society goes, I'd like to see Wildcat represent them. (I know it won't happen lol, he's not nearly popular enough) however, I've always liked him and the fact that he's a fantastic fighter doesn't hurt MK at all. However, as stated, not gonna happen... but it's just my opinion.

I figure, if it is true she's been confirmed (says the biggest proponent of the rumor list), Kryptonians have a pretty long laundry list of special abilities and since each character is getting six special moves, I figure she could have the specials that Clark doesn't.

...ok a T rated game with fatalities. Ed Boon and Midway always claim a lot when they are making the games and then when it comes out it turns out to be half-assed.

Fatalities in this game are probably going to be bitch movies like breaking their neck, arm FATALITY

please...

and I love how Ed Boon embraced ppl's hatred for him and the game, he probably knows at heart how retarded his "MK8" is.
