Amazing episode. The best so far in the series. This 10 minute episode gave Scorpion more depth to his character then 20 years of him being in games. I really dig his personality, seems to be very serious to when it comes to fighting for his clan, but is a lovable husband and father. Him being general is an awesome detail too.

I loved that it was in Japanese instead of English. It would have taken out the 'special factor' it had.

Sub-Zero seems to have no remorse, nor mercy. What a fucking bastard.

Scenery was great, music was amazing. Loved everything.

Great episode. Completely makes up for last weeks dog shit Raiden episode.

This added a lot of depth to Scorpion's character and made Sub-Zero seem like a truly menacing villain. Now I totally get why Scorpion is always so pissed. Oh yeah and the music was just fantastic, gave me chills.

Cannot wait to see the fight scene in the next ep

For the love of God, please say Raizo. I cannot get the mental image out of my head: purple Kang with pimp moustache.

I would not put it past Scorpion to exact vengeance on a later descendant of of Sub-Zero if the original already bit the dust. There is a throng of examples on similar stuff ranging from the Bible to everything else.

What however made me tick was the idea of Rebirth: it is the same Scorpion but one who has already killed Subs. Cue the flashing image of a very old and hi-tech Sub-Zero and Scorpion accepting to go out hunting. Perhaps that idea will resurface?

Is Sub-Zero practically ageless? Will Scorpion ever sublimate his feelings for the Lin Kuei with him? Find out next episode.

Ok, from the wikipedia link provided by shinomune about the shogun:

"Modern usage

Although today the head of the Japanese government is called "prime minister", the usage of the term "shogun" has continued somewhat. A retired prime minister who still wields considerable power and influence behind the scenes is called a "shadow shogun", a somewhat modern incarnation of the cloistered rule. A shadow shogun in Japanese is called yami shogun. Examples of shadow shoguns are former prime minister Kakuei Tanaka and the politician Ichiro Ozawa."

So maybe it's a traditional japanese town on the mountains or something appart from the modern days cities and they still respect the modern day shoguns?

I guess we will know on the next episode, because we are going to see the automation of the Lin Kuei and sure it's not going to be during feudal Japan :P

From the source, or Legacy, if you can accept that there is a secretive sub-community of ninja, and/or similarly tradition based warriors, living out in the mountains... why would it be so difficult to assume they adapted an entire heiarchy for their hidden, quaint community(s)? I think the logic bubble can accomodate that, even for Legacy.

It seemed easy, from previews, to expect that these would be the best episodes. I think they've certainly shown the best use of money, location, and presentation. I really think they would've done themselves a favour by starting off with this, rather than the humdrum MKSF two-parter. Then again, they would've also been starting with a much more obvious (and potentially less forgiven) deviation from the source material.

I think it definitely takes a special kind of stupid to make the marquee mascot -- who is arguably the only legit ninja in a series inundated with them -- a samurai. That's a pretty fundamental pop cultural no-no, and even more so for characters as revered as Scorpion. Even Paul Anderson took that much from his experience with audiences!

I think we continue to see that Tancharoen's vision is dubious at best, his skills limited, and the overall confidence in the material is absent. The latter point is going to be debated by some very gracious apologists, but it is what it is. Nice to get a sense of story and a glimpse of colour in these episodes. It's fun, but that's small praise at this point.

It seems like WB are committed to making good use of the MK brand, and presumably went with webisodes to test the waters of what works and doesn't. I personally hope of the relatively modest millions of YouTube hits they've had, they take away that there is definitely an interest in MK, but that this isn't the approach to take. The existing Hollywood model certainly supports a more faithful approach, pleasantly enough.

And ironically, the three most significant ninja in the Japanese historical subconcious to this day were, and are, samurai. Hanzo Hattori, Yagyu Muneyoshi (founder of Shinkage-ryu swordmanship school, pretty much historically confirmed ninja, samurai and bugeisha- dedicated swordman, not to mention being the patriarch of the Muneyoshi clan), Fuuma Kotaro, ... list goes on.

And since KT had the balls to write the two characters as in a jidaigeki, it should be obvious that he preferred art, setting, and to it's own internal logic verisimilitude instead of what western perception degraded the concept of shinobi into (that is pajama-clad people with swords). If anything, this Scorpion is MORE NINJA than any other iteration we have seen.

Not to mention that samurai were a rank, a social stature, not a special kind of warrior we -usually refer to- , those were called bushin, boshi, who by rank were samurai. The word denotes rank, stature, not warriorship. It is kinda sad, that the meaning word, knight also suffers from this terrible disease.

Point is, I have zero consideration for the original as it offers nothing more than this one, which is, by definition historically and visually a ninja.

Only one dislike so far, and that is the sub-titles. Don't get me wrong, I like sub-titled movies sometimes but, I've always felt reading a movie takes away from my experience of immersion. Call it being a lazy American if you want but that's my only dislike so far. Everything else look very good.

Lazy American :p j/k

In this case, I'm going to agree. Not because I don't enjoy subtitled movies, but because the actors are not native Japanese! (Aside from the kid I suppose) I speak Japanese so I know I'm being overly picky, but if you want to use Japanese to add to the story then you should cast Japanese actors in my opinion. Otherwise, it's just a gimmick and the quality of the production suffers. The actors are talented but the language is affecting their performances. Just reading a few of the comments here, some of the posters who don't even speak Japanese could tell that the actors were not native speakers. That's a problem. They would have been better off having the dialogue in English.

Nonetheless, the story itself was interesting.

He always was. Bi Han was a functional remorseless sociopath. Thank God his brother had compassion, probably due to Smoke.

Though Scorpion is not so different in the games now. I wonder how different will this Scorpion be -implied of course, if at all? I am dead tired of Vengeance will be mine! -type shallowness.

After MKR I always believed that KT has talent and skills to make his own MK movie or series. He has interesting vision, confidence and knowledge of the material. If it weren't for fans whining and WB desire to stick closer to MK canon (possibly because of said whining and realease of MK9), I think he could've create a much more solid presentation. Though this episode and episodes about Raiden and Johhny Cage come close to it.

Right now Episode 7 of MKL is one of the most watched videos on the Youtube with 749,192 views.

There's nothing impressive about not being able to colour within the lines.

I'm really fed up with all these self-called "Japanese History Experts", u guys should just stop bitchin' about, nobody really cares what u guys think. and if you really think u know what you're talking about, believe me you don't. If you want to talk about japanese history, do all of us fans a favor and get a job leading a tour in a japanese historic place or something, you so called "Japanese Experts". Hahaha what a Joke!!!!! Just cuz you've seen enough Naruto episodes and read mangas, you think you guys are experts, come on be the F**ck serious!!!!!!!

The episode is great, I really loved it, oh and for the guys that said that the actor's Japanese is not fluent, 1 question DO U Know Japanese? If not shut the F**CK Up. Just try to learn Japanese and you''ll see how easy it is, trust me it's hell as hard, I know cuz I took Japanese lessons for a year, and i still don't know shit, just for a few words and phrases.

Great Job Kevin Tancharoen, keep it up!!!! can't wait for next week's episode.

over 800k viewers after 2 days is very impressive.. those vidoes with million of viewers usually dont.. they are viral that appear on webpages and get the coutns that way.. plus people are more likely to watch a 1 min thing of no relevance to them than a 11min webseries episode

I've maintained that deviating from the source material is fine as long as the writing is solid. So I won't complain about the language, samurai decision, or the wonky timeline. I think those complaints are outright petty, especially given that this series was pitched as a different interpretation. You don't have to buy the premise, but rehearsing the same complaint over and over again is tiring, and not particularly helpful to anyone.

I've been pretty critical of the series from the beginning, but I think this episode is roughly on track. KT dispensed with the narrator (for the most part), and gave his main characters some room for expression. It's a bit of a slow start, but part 2 should make up for that. The father/son don't-be-like-me narrative is a bit hackneyed, but understandable given Scorpion's background. So while I'm not blown away, I do think KT did a good job given his resources.

No it's not. The number of views Rebirth got in that amount of time, now that was impressive. Legacy is way under-performing by comparison.

Well it's now over a million so that point is moot.
