Injustice: Sinestro & Hawkgirl Join Gods Among Us
Sinestro & Hawkgirl Join the Fray in Battle Arena Round 1 Conclusion!

Battle Arena match-ups concluded this week, introducing Sinestro & Hawkgirl as the final two reveals from the sixteen character tournament. As they make the leap from rumor to confirmed playable character, the Injustice Facebook takes the opportunity to offer a closer look at both.

Sinestro faces Superman in the Week 4 main event, reflecting his history of absolute power corrupt upon the hero-turned-dictator of the Gods Among Us universe.

Sinestro was once a celebrated Green Lantern, but as his brand of justice turned to tyranny, he was ousted from the intergalactic Corps by his human protege, Hal Jordan. Empowered by the Weaponers of Qward, Sinestro eventually forged his own collective of lanterns, founding the fear wielding yellow ring slingers of the Sinestro Corps.

Hawkgirl substitutes for her male counterpart in this weeks second Superfight: picking up the tab of the Hawkman/Green Arrow rivalry fondly remembered from comics. Her mace seeks emerald archer's face in a clash of heroes famously featured in the Justice League Unlimited cartoon series.

With the distinction of being one of the first major female superheroes: Hawkgirl's long and winding history is irrevocably shared with (and borrowed from) Hawkman. The result is a complex double helix of lives, alien and human, defined by romance and violence. The pair are said to be the reincarnation of Thanagarians who inhabited Ancient Egypt - cursed to forever find each others love before an untimely death.

The two new additions bring the total confirmed roster to nineteen playable characters, with Doomsday's in-game status still unknown.

  • Batman
  • Superman
  • Wonder Woman
  • Flash
  • Harley Quinn
  • Solomon Grundy
  • Nightwing
  • Cyborg
  • Catwoman
  • Joker
  • Green Lantern
  • Green Arrow
  • Deathstroke
  • Bane
  • Lex Luthor
  • Aquaman
  • Captain Marvel
  • Sinestro
  • Hawkgirl
  • Doomsday

Green Arrow Alternate Costume Screenshots
Green Arrow Alternate Costumes Featured on Official Facebook!

Green Arrow may be locked in mortal combat in this week's Battle Arena, but that doesn't mean he can't find time to strut his stuff in the latest fashions from Injustice: Gods Among Us [via Facebook]!

It looks as if the emerald archer is going retro in designs inspired by a Robin Hood type design - something always close to Green Arrow. Also pictured; a better look at the bonus costume from TV's Arrow. The WB serial just celebrated its first episode penned by DC Comics grand pubah and film-to-floppy convert: Geoff Johns!

Johns is close to all of this week's Battle Arena competitors, having enjoyed popular stints as writer of; Hawkman (Hawkgirl), Action Comics (Superman) and Green Lantern -- the latter of which elevated Sinestro and his yellow Corps of fear to mainstream popularity! The Johns directed Blackest Night event has also been pegged for one of several exclusive pre-order bonuses [full story].

Battle Arena Week 4: Superman v Sinestro, Hawkgirl v Green Arrow
Steel v Fear! Girl v Arrow! New Characters Enter As Round 1 Concludes!

The court of public opinion is now in session! Injustice Battle Arena is pitting the heroes and villains of the upcoming DC Entertainment fighting game against one another in mortal combat! It's up to fans to decide who will win in the ultimate tournament of Gods Among Us!

New battles unfold every Monday as we count down to the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us! Fans will vote in an elemination style bracket until the grand final decides the ultimate God Among Us, April 8!

Can't decide who would win these epic showdowns? You can always borrow your opinions from people you recognize: George Newbern (Voice of Superman), Stephen Amell (TV's Green Arrow), Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes (Celebrity Fanboys), Wayne Brady & Tara Strong (Not Voice of Harley Quinn & Voice of Harley Quinn)! Don't recognize the people in question? Hey, you can always borrow MKO's take!

Superfight 1: Superman versus Sinestro
In a world where Superman's greatest fears have pushed him beyond the edge -- who better to bring him back than the master of fear: Sinestro? Depending who you ask, Supes was very nearly Earth's first Green Lantern. Had the honor been his, he would have been mentored by Sinestro: a former GL himself, ousted when he took justice too far, turning tyrant in the process. Sounds familiar, eh? Sinestro's Qwardian power ring affords him much the same abilities as green equivalents, but against a Superman unbound even one of the most powerful weapons in the universe may prove insufficient!

Superfight 2: Green Arrow versus Hawkgirl
Hawkgirl substitutes for her male predecessor in this almost-classic clash of not-quite-rivals! Tensions between Green Arrow and Hawkman go way back, dividing them by the very issues Gods Among Us forces the heroes to face! We'll trust Hawkgirl to represent Hawkman and the token female vote, just as capable of wielding the fixed mace as the man who made it famous! An aerial assault makes Hawkgirl a tricky customer, but Green Arrow's seasoned hawk-eye is more than capable of keeping her in his sights!

This week's battles conclude the first round of the Battle Arena tournament! Friday winners will progress to the Quarter Finals, where an A-list line-up awaits, including: Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Joker, Aquaman & Green Lantern!

Born on a Monday; the unstoppable beast born of Slaughter Swamp may have been one of the deadliest foes to face GL's precursor and namesake, but against the will powered ring of the Green Lantern Corps (and the vote of fans), Grundy is no match! Not even a tombstone piledriver can put the ring slinger away!

Injustice Battle Arena Week 3 Competitor Concept Art
Concept Art Spotlight: Aquaman, Cyborg, Green Lantern & Solomon Grundy!

Another week of Injustice Battle Arena, another addition to the growing Injustice: Gods Among Us concept art gallery. This time the Official Facebook has a closer look at Week 3 competitors: Cyborg, Aquaman, Green Lantern & Solomon Grundy!

Characters are a mixture of some of the most iconic and classic comic book designs, alongside those reinterpreted through the inimitable filter of NetherRealm Studios.

The makers of Mortal Kombat have done particular justice to Aquaman [reveal trailer]: a character notably left out of their 2008 crossover title, Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe. Some will call it a surprising change of perspective, others will recognize the Aquaman of more flattering comic book tales.

Battle Arena Week 3: Aquaman v Cyborg, Green Lantern v Grundy
The tournament of champions continues with four new heavy hitting contestants!

Listen to the expert testimony of these special eye witnesses: Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes (Jay & Silent Bob), Scott Porter (Television Actor), Wayne Brady & Tara Strong (Guy your mom loves & voice of Harley Quinn)! The opinions are real, the names have not been changed.

Superfight 1: Aquaman versus Cyborg
It's a study in contrast as the old world charms of the monarch of the sea are tested by the futuristic tech of the man turned machine! This could easily become a debate about the credibility of Aquaman, but if you've seen the reveal trailer, you know this is an Aquaman who came to play! Cyborg's got the hardware to take Aquaman down, but in these contests, ol' Arthur Curry has a history of cheating to win (via fishy interference). Seniority and Atlantean mysticism might have it, but it's bound to come down to the wire!

Superfight 2: Green Lantern versus Solomon Grundy
Born on a Monday, Solomon Grundy was a real stick in the mud for classic arch-nemesis Alan Scott. That ring slinger had a weakness to wood the marsh-born Grundy could take advantage of, but he'll have no such luck against this Green Lantern! With his Oan ring, Hal Jordan can use his limitless willpower to conjure any form he conceives! Grundy may have brute strength, but Jordan has one of the most powerful weapons in the universe! Took ill on Thursday, grew worse on Friday!

This week's Battle Arena preview plays it pretty mild, but fans of the Green Lantern Corps should get a thrill out of a group cameo from the universe's finest. The only question now -- is this GL's team-based super-move, or part of the story mode?

Sixteen of the toughest heroes and villains are set to duke it out in a tournament called Injustice Battle Arena! Fans voted - now the verdict is in! Watch as the result of Joker versus Lex Luthor plays out in Week 2's Superfight 2!

Lex Luthor may be the most brilliant mastermind Metropolis has to offer, with hardware devastating enough to topple The Man of Steel -- but The Joker has never had much regard for expectations. The popular vote pushes The Clown Prince of Crime toward a gleeful victory, with all the pies and pummelling you'd expect. Luthor may've come out unlucky, but he's clearly going to have plenty of tricks when Injustice: Gods Among Us reaches home consoles, April.

Nintendo Direct Details Injustice: Gods Among Us WiiU
Nintendo Direct Showcases Injustice WiiU Tricks as Developers Return from Hiatus!

When Injustice: Gods Among Us hits in April, it will mark the end of a six year Nintendo hiatus for the team at NetherRealm Studios.

Nintendo Direct have detailed some of the unique tricks coming to the WiiU version. Options for the handheld GamePad are the most obvious feature, following somewhat in the device tailored traditions of Mortal Kombat Vita.

Like the Vita release; do not mistake this for a lesser equivalent! Injustice: Gods Among Us will run at a full 60FPS [Frames Per Second], making the WiiU experience equivalent in satisfying the nitty gritty of your fighting game experience.

Injustice: Gods Among Us WiiU Features:
  • Use the WiiU GamePad to access your Quick Moves list
  • Play the game in Off-TV mode for full features
  • Runs at full 60 FPS
  • Extensive DLC options via Nintendo eShop

The return to Nintendo has been a long time coming!
Creative Director Ed Boon first expressed interest in exploring the WiiU hardware as early as June 2011; an early adopter of the upgrade in capabilities, and the potential new gimmicks found in the handheld WiiU GamePad. Watch the full Nintendo Direct episode below [Injustice begins 35:01]:

Injustice: Gods Among Us recently received an MA15+ from the Australian Classifcation Board [full story]. The rating reflects Nintendo's broad reconnection with the "hardcore" gaming landscape, expanding its adult line-up from the last generation's predominantly family-friendly trademarks. Showcase: Flash & Green Arrow Alternate Skins, Atom Smasher!
New Regime Flash Spotlight Reveals Atom Smasher Background -- PLUS: Arrow!

With mere hours remaining in this week's Injustice Battle Arena vote; we have it from the highest authority that Flash & Captain Marvel are neck and neck! The Superfight main event got the spotlight treatment earlier in the week. This time it's just the Flash getting special attention for his choice of wardrobe.

Injustice: Gods Among Us #5 promises the Scarlet Speedster debating his allegiances, but if that Aquaman Reveal Trailer was anything to go by, it looks like Flash and Captain Marvel will be mutually aligned with the New Regime!

The alternate costumes are stacking up and it appears members of the Regime will be updating their attire to match their new perspective. The Injustice Facebook has put the spotlight on Flash's alternate attire [pictured above], just as they did last week during Bane's battle.

We've seen the Flash's more elaborate alternate attire quite a lot, but take a closer look at the screenshot, and you'll spy Atom Smasher towering over the city skyline!

We got our first glimpse of the giant-size Justice Society hero yesterday, appearing opposite Giganta in a blurry teaser released by Noob.com [full story]. This seems to confirm suspicions of little more than a background cameo, and/or scene transition [ala; Arkham Asylum], but you never know what story mode and downloadable content will have in store!

Folks voting in last week's Injustice Battle Arena contest had the chance to win a Green Arrow alternate skin [pictured above]. Inspired by the hit TV series Arrow, the download is one of many prizes you can win by participating in the official vote!

Harley Quinn & Bane are two more characters getting the variant costume treatment [full story], their outfits suggesting the possibility of alternate Earths somewhere in the game!

By pre-ordering at select participating stores, you'll receive exclusive free downloads for several other alternate Earths & storylines: Blackest Night, Red Son, Arkham City & The New 52! Mortal Kombat & Injustice Receive Australian Classification
Mortal Kombat Receives Australian Adult Classification; Injustice MA15+.

Mortal Kombat will finally arrive on shores down under: IGN reporting the previously refused title has officially been granted an R18+ classification.

The news comes a week after Injustice: Gods Among Us received an MA15+ rating from the Australian Classification Board. Though less harsh; the Injustice classification carries an equal federal mandate that individuals purchasing the title be ages 15 or older. This is as opposed to the M rating the title may have hoped to achieve, which offers a guideline advisory of 15 and up.

The formal classifcation ends a saga that began in February, 2011. While the process will finally give Australian gamers the opportunity to own domestic copies of Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition, the decision can still be seen as a hollow victory.

Mortal Kombat remained a staple of Australian arcades and home consoles throughout the nineties and into the double-ohs. The 2011 reboot was the first time a Mortal Kombat product was refused classification in the country. It reflects a discernable shift in classification standards, which have become significantly more restrictive than in decades preceding.

Australia's grappling with censorship has been well documented, including widely criticized considerations for a national internet filter. The question of whether or not content is being appropriately classified seems to have become secondary to the overdue Adult Classification for video games, but even this has come with its share of critics.

Update (Feb. 24): EB Games are currently advertising a tentative release date of May 29 [PS3, 360]. No official date has been announced, dates may be subject to change. Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition will be released in all Australian states except Queensland. Thanks to MKOmmunity user for sending in the tip. He was told May 28th, in-store. Follow links for pre-order details.

Mortal Kombat Online will be watching for a confirmed Australian release date for Mortal Kombat. Injustice: Gods Among Us arrives down under in a same-day release with the United States, April 17 local.

Noob.com Teases More Injustice Characters
Ed Boons Personal Site Teases Giant-Size Fighters, Gorillas & More!

Long before "viral" was the buzzword of the advertising kingdoms -- Noob.com was Ed Boon's personal portal to promotion through teasers. Mortal Kombat fans know the domain well: picked up fortuitously by the NetherRealm Studios Creative Director just before popular vernacular took hold.

Injustice fans come to play as the site goes live again, this time with a game of numbers!

Plug the right numbers in and hit play to receive a teaser image for your trouble [above]. The input possibilities increase each time as a numeric value is added. There aren't a lot of clues to suggest the significance of each input, but fortunately, the fan community is as industrious as it is time available!

8, 76 & 514 appear to be the winning combinations -- 8319 concluding the chase with a "blank page" whose mysteries appear to lie in the numbers of the URL, but are as yet unlocked.

Squint and we're sure you'll agree these images pose some interesting questions about the availability of characters in Injustice: Gods Among Us!

The first image ("fightbuild") suggests things could escalate to new heights -- Giganta and Atom Smasher doing super-sized combat in front of what appears to be a full fledged skyscraper! Atom Smasher has a noteworthy history in superhero takeovers, part of the conquest of Khandaq that made Black Adam ruler during 2004's Black Reign story.

Image two ("bigarmor") makes a compelling case for an armor clad Gorilla Grodd, but it's tough to say. Much easier is the final shot ("pointy"), making no mystery of the royal weapon of choice featured in todays Aquaman Reveal Trailer.

Try it yourself at noob.com, or speed ahead to sleuthing it out on the forums. Special thanks to , , & all the members of the MKOmmunity who helped crack the code for this story!

The Injustice Facebook has added to a growing gallery of concept art and previews, showcasing this weeks Battle Arena contestants: Flash, Captain Marvel, Joker & Lex Luthor!

The design images offer static insight into the inner workings of each look. From Joker's casual-formal three-piece flak jacket ensemble, to Lex Luthor's amped up battle armor - the underworkings of classic DC Comics design can be seen beneath the embellishment of NetherRealm's armor plated adaptations.

Injustice: New Details Regarding Harley Quinn & Bane Designs
Concept & Design Artwork Reveals Outfit Details & Alternate Earth!

They may have been eliminated in Injustice Battle Arena, but that doesn't mean the party's over for fans of Bane and Harley Quinn!

The fine folks from NetherRealm Studios have distributed a collection of images, new and old, detailing the design work that's gone in to both primary outfits, and "Alternate Earth V" costumes.

The new images give context to that previously released Bane screenshot, described as the aforementioned "Alternate Earth" variant. The same design can be seen in more vivid detail [pictured above], along with a higher resolution version of the primary outfit concept design, released earlier this month.

Harley Quinn gets a tasteful treatment in this first-look at her "Alternate Earth" attire. The pants and jacket keep the character removed from her iconically classic harlequin bodysuit, but will please those looking for a more practical aesthetic, just the same.

With the outfits put into new context, the question is now whether or not a parallel version of the DC Universe will come into play as a New Regime dominates the Earth in Injustice: Gods Among Us.

The opinions are real, the names have not been changed. Kevin Conroy was asked to participate, but just kept voting for Batman. (No, not really. He did that last week!).

Superfight 1: The Flash versus Captain Marvel
The question of the superhero reserve raises its head as the fastest man alive clashes with the world's mightiest mortal! Superspeed gives Flash the right of first move in any battle, but against the sheer power of Captain Marvel, that might not matter! The power of Shazam grants tremendous physical strength and endrance, as well as deceptive insight. If the Flash isn't fighting to kill, then the Captain could have the edge, defending against speed with brute force, before unleashing his own flash attack - the lightning ambush!

Superfight 2: The Joker versus Lex Luthor
It's the clown prince of crime against the brilliant criminal mastermind! Sheer insanity versus unrivaled brilliance! The mental battle between Joker and Lex Luthor is a clash of contrasts. Insanity could very well be Joker's edge, but Lex Luthor comes prepared, packing hardware enough to topple The Man of Steel! Joker can take a yolking and keep on joking, but even his casual penchant for lethal force will struggle to mitigate the focused assault of Lex Luthor!

As promised, Battle Arena Superfights Week 2 is the official confirmation of Captain Marvel's inclusion as a playable character in the game. The same site, of course, accidentally leaked his existence a week early, but we'll call it even (because there's no way we'll call it "Shazam").

Cary-HiroyukiTagawa to Host Dinner Scene at VXG2013
Treasure these moments as if they were your last -- VXG to host Tagawa Dinner Scene!

In one of the more surprising announcements of 2012; Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa made his triumphant return to the role of Shang Tsung, joining production of a second series of Mortal Kombat: Legacy!

Still well remembered for his original appearance in the 1995 feature film (Mortal Kombat) -- Tagawa has embraced full sorcerer mode, boosting for Shang's Army in a string of online initiatives, and organized live appearances!

The seasoned actor will lend his celebrity to Video X Games 2013, hosting a live reenactment of the banquet scene made famous in the 1995 film. Tournament player and personality, Bill "Tom Brady" Menoutis, is reported to be assuming the role of Tsung's favourite ice cold assassin, Sub-Zero [via EventHubs].

Update (Feb. 14): Menoutis has since tweeted that he will not be involved, nor will he be at the VXG event. Update (Feb. 16): Aaand scratch that! He's back in! [Tweet following]

VXG is a Carribean tournament fast establishing itself as a rival major to the more established Evo World Championship! An early adopter of a third year of Mortal Kombat; VXG has been key to supporting the scene into 2013 and will host high profile players like Justin Wong, REO and more.

Opportunities to win qualification to VXG are still abound, including at the recently admitted Road to Evo event, Winter Brawl 7. Getting in to Shang Tsung's Banquet will be a more exclusive affair, however, reserved for the first 200 pre-registered Mortal Kombat attendees who RSVP for the event. Full details are available via Put That Back.

Rolando Brison, Vice-President of Video X Games has been a vibrant presence in the scene. With backing from the St. Maarten Tourist Board, VXG promises to be quite the island spectacle when it gets under way July 25-28! Winter Brawl Returns to Road to Evo in US Expansion
The North-East Joins Road to Evo with Winter Brawl Back on the Seeding Bill!

The 2013 Road to Evo became a little longer last week; Shoryuken reporting that Winter Brawl will officially return to the series, adding a fifth seeding tournament to the US tour.

Evo tournament organizers explained the dramatically shortened series, and the retirement of formal points, as an effort to reduce the pressures of travel placed upon their July seeding [full story].

The readmission of Winter Brawl 7 addresses an outcry from the playerbase, responding to concerns the potent North-East tournament contingent was being overlooked. Plans to redirect North-East interests to Florida and Toronto were met with extreme criticism and suspicion. Canada's Toryuken II is presently counted amongst the events making up the 2013 Road to Evo: International series (May 4-5).

Winter Brawl 7 eminates from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania just two weeks from now! The Mortal Kombat seeding event is scheduled for a February 23 start, with a concurrent 2-on-2 tournament. Old favourite Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 will be in exhibition on Sunday (Feb. 24).

Information may be subject to change. Visit the Big E Gaming Winter Brawl 7 page for more details. Share and discuss Winter Brawl and the build to Mortal Kombat's third consecutive year at the Evo World Championship on the Gameplay & Matchmaking forum!

Injustice: Blackest Night German Amazon Pre-Order Bonus
Death Touches Gods Among Us in Amazon.de Blackest Night Pre-Order Bonus!

No holds barred combat may have the Justice League divided by philosophy, but Amazon.de will ensure the JLA are well and truly dead with an exclusive Injustice: Gods Among Us pre-order bonus based on Blackest Night!

Fans ordering the game for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 will be able to take control of Blackest Night Batman -- an exclusive DLC alternate skin. The Deutsch bonus also includes Zombie Mode: an extra campaign that transforms the Injustice cast into battle damaged, undead versions of themselves [pictured above].

Blackest Night was the comic book mega-event of 2009, responsible for one of DC Comics' most popular series of the modern era. Bursting forth from the pages of Green Lantern, the epic saga told of the prophecized rise of an unstoppable Black Lantern Corps intent on extinguishing life in the known universe!

The event saw many memorable deceased characters rise from the grave to become Black Lantern versions of themselves. It also saw many of the still living icons affected, either as a result of their previous flirtations with death (Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow...), or by their recruitment into the various Lantern Corps of the emotional spectrum. The undead Black Lanterns were secretly agents of Nekron: an avatar entity of the universe before life, with a hold over death.

Ironically, Batman was not actually among the heroes transformed into a Black Lantern. Believed dead as a result of an encounter with Darkseid [see; Final Crisis]; Bruce Wayne had been hurled back through the ages by the New Gods' "Omega Sanction." Forced to live and die in previous eras, Batman experienced 'the death that is life,' while one of many failed genetic experiments took the place of his mortal remains. It was this imperfect clone that was resurrected briefly as the Black Lantern Batman during the Blackest Night event [pictured below].

The emotional response provoked by confrontations with undead Black Lanterns was key to the battle with the living. With a backstory predicated by a very personal death [spoilers] -- Injustice has some interesting fodder for a tale of Blackest Night!

Store exclusive bonuses inspired by Red Son and Arkham City offer alternate options to consumers around the world [full story]. There is no information regarding Amazon bonuses in other regions at the time of this story. The Blackest Night pre-order bonus was originally reported by ComicBookMovie.com.

Packed-in bonuses can also be found in the limited Battle Edition and Collector's Edition. They offer an official PDP Fight Stick and Batman v Wonder Woman Statue, respectively. For info on all the top stories, join the discussion in the DC Universe Injustice forum!

A bit of a mismatch, we're led to believe it was Wonder Woman by a landslide! Fortunately for us, Harley Quinn gets a healthy dose of offense in this Battle Arena gameplay preview!

The Arkham Asylum arena location not only looks spectacular, but answers questions raised by yesterday's screenshot reveal of Killer Croc, Riddler & Penguin. As speculated by some cluey users, it's one of the more exciting arena transitions. Also featuring Two-Face, it's the brain child of old NetherRealm Studios favourite Steve Beran! [Hi, Steve!!!]

Injustice: Bane Unchained in New Screenshot
Batman Facebook Reveals Bane Alternate Outfit in New Screenshot!

We're seeing a lot of Bane right now. The man who broke The Bat was given a design spotlight in released concept art; delivered his trademark backbreaker in a recent screenshot; and is going head-to-head with his arch-nemesis in the first week of Injustice Battle Arena Superfights!

Just when you thought you couldn't see much more -- the Batman Facebook [via EventHubs] gives us an even more revealing look!

The new screenshot [above] seems to reveal Bane's alternate costume -- a design inspired by extreme methods of bondage, complete with orange prison pants.

Bane's no stranger to being locked down. Famous for being born into incarceration; his origins began in Peña Dura -- a maximum security prison in the corrupt South American nation of Santa Prisca. It was there he trained his body and mind, enduring the extreme forms of experimentation that transormed him into a Venom serum infused powerhouse!

He won't be the only Gotham dweller wearing prison orange when the game hits consoles in April! Earlier today we got the first look at Killer Croc, looking mean and green in combat with Flash! Croc appears flanked by Riddler and Penguin in an unidentified scenario.

Injustice: Gods Among Us hits PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 & Nintendo WiiU in April! New Injustice Screenshot Reveals Killer Croc Among Us
Killer Croc, Riddler & Penguin Tackle Flash in New Injustice Screenshot!

It started with a simple, cryptic promise from Creative Director Ed Boon (@noobde), escalated with a live countdown, and concluded with our first look at the Gotham City bruiser - Killer Croc!

Batman's musclebound nemesis appears flanked by a couple of The Dark Knight's less physical foes: The Riddler and Penguin.

This could be perceived as yet another Batman inspired inclusion into the game, but given the composition, we're unable to confirm the playable inclusion of Croc with absolute certainty. This does, however, address a previous teaser from Boon, suggesting the presence of The Penguin somewhere in the game.

Why so much Gotham in a game set in an entire version of the DC Universe? With The Joker at the centre of catalyst events, and Batman emerging to resist Superman's tyrannic New Regime -- it only stands to reason that The Dark Knight would recruit the likes of Catwoman, Nightwing, Harley Quinn and in need of muscle, perhaps even Bane, Solomon Grundy or Lex Luthor!

Update: According to Boon, we'll find out whether or not Killer Croc appears playable in material coming tomorrow:

Killer Croc is Waylon Jones -- a powerful brute with a condition that renders his skin to be like the scaley leather hide of a reptile. Created in 1983, he represesnts a newer breed of Bat-foe, more physically intimidating than some of Batman's best known opponents. In the past, Croc has held a bitter rivalry with Bane -- another of Batman's powerhouse opponents, who held the distinction of brutalizing the aspiring mobster during the famous Knightfall storyline.

Knightfall is clearly on our minds after yesterday's screenshot reveal, which recreated the famous climx that saw Bane break Batman's back! Bane will get his first full gameplay preview Friday when the results of Injustice Battle Arena turn fan votes into executed victory! Discuss all this and more on the DC Universe Injustice forum!

Battle Arena Teaser: Bane Breaks The Bat!

Whether or not he delivers the finishing blow in the Injustice Battle Arena depends on you! Celebrity Experts Weigh-in as Injustice Battle Arena Kicks Off Week 1!

Superfight 1: Bane versus Batman
The action kicks off with a hardhitting main event grudge bout! Bane may be famous for breaking The Bat, but the 12-part Knightfall storyline included a plot to unleash Batman's deadliest enemies before delivering defeat. Bane studied and exhausted his foe over a deadly night, before delivering the backbreaker finish the world remembers. At peak fitness it's anyone's battle, but when push comes to shove, The Batman comes out on top!

Superfight 2: Wonder Woman versus Harley Quinn
It's an all-lady, all-star clash when the Princess of Amazons tackles The Joker's favourite gal! Amazonian discipline and powers to rival Superman give Wonder Woman the edge, but against the acrobatic insanity of Harley Quinn, the lasso of truth will be of little use! Unpredictability is Harley Quinn's key, but the tale of the tape leans much harder toward one clear winner in this preliminary clash! Wonder Woman looks too good in this battle!

The Power of SHAZAM Coming to Gods Among Us!
Injustice Battle Arena Website Leaks Captain Marvel Render to Web!

Gods will truly be among us when Captain Marvel joins the confirmed list of characters for the upcoming DC Entertainment fighting game: Injustice!

Apparent confirmation of the power of Shazam comes as DC launch their Injustice Battle Arena promotional website. The online tournament pits the heroes and villains of Injustice against one another in fan voted tournament competition. Resources for the website are reported to have inadvertently revealed Captain Marvel by way for some industrious prodding by eager fans [thanks to C-Sword for posting].

Pictured above; the icon's icon shares much in common with his most recent comic book incarnation, albeit with the busied design twist that is trademark to NetherRealm Studios.

Originally published by Fawcett Comics -- Captain Marvel was once titan enough to topple the mighty Superman, outselling America's original superhero whilst starring in his own live-action serial adventures. Forced out of print by legal jostling; DC licensed the character in 1972, incorporating the power of Shazam into the pantheon of the DC Universe. Equivalent to Superman in many respects; Captain Marvel has at times carried the publishing rivalrly into the books themselves, famously manipulated into being a mortal counter by Batman and Lex Luthor in Kingdom Come.

Captain Marvel makes his fighting game return from NetherRealm's last tryst with superheroes: Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe. What role will Earth's mightiest mortal have to play in a world where our greatest heroes have become our greatest threat? We'll find out soon enough, as the "big red cheese" joins as a cast including; Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and many more!

The cast continues to grow ahead of the April release! Marvel and his dark predecessor - Black Adam -have been among the leading story mode speculatory picks prompted by magazine previews. Creative Director Ed Boon has sparked debate about Doctor Fate's status within the game [full story]. Mortal Kombat Online also previously reported confirmation of Aquaman. Discuss the latest rumors and news on the DC Universe Injustice forum.

Injustice: Creative Director Teases Doctor Fate?
Paging Dr. Fate! Ed Boon teases hero in new image -- but his fate already sealed?

Today we learned the next Injustice: Gods Among Us gameplay trailer would be delayed, Bane looks like a badass in concept art, and Dr. Fate could be somewhere in our future...

As is becoming custom; NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon just added to his Twitter playlist, throwing down a track from 'Empire of the Sun', with the above image attached.

Either Boon's just really jazzed by the Ambrosian Boys Choir put to the machines of death [from Terminator] -- or he's trying to tell us something... "No Fate But What We Make" and a figure in blue and yellow can only suggest DC's resident master of magic: Doctor Fate!

The wielder of the Helmet of Fate; Dr. Fate is heavyhitting mystic and lord of order! In various incarnations, he's held membership with the Justice League and Justice Society of America -- DC's two premier superhero teams. He clocked in at #3 in our Kountdown of the Heroes We Want Among Us, and would be a welcome addition, but is no certainty! Boon's image leaves a lot unanswered and looks an awful lot like a background.

With Superman assuming the role of tyrannical antagonist, a man who can defy the laws of reality would be a powerful enemy. As an agent of order, will the spirit of Nabu compell Dr. Fate to support the New Regime, or combat it? Questions we cannot hope to answer yet, but will no doubt enjoy pondering.

You can ponder until your heart's content by joining the action on the DC Universe Injustice forum. There you can discuss and speculate on all things Gods Among Us, including Boon's many other teasers, such as that little suggestion of Martian Manhunter last month. Injustice hits home consoles in April.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Bane Concept Art
Official Injustice Facebook Reveals Bane Concept Art!

Promotion for Injustice: Gods Among Us is ramping up! A previously announced trailer may have been delayed, but the content keeps coming, this time in the form of concept art for the man who broke the bat - Bane!

Made famous by the 1993 DC Comics storyline Knightfall; Bane is best remembered for breaking Batman's back. The story inspired elements of the 2012 opus, The Dark Knight Rises, which in turn appears to have some influence on Injustice.

Look close and you'll see a nice hybrid of the militaristic vest of the recent film version of the character, smashed with some of the more extreme cartoon versions. Though noteworthy for his physical dominance, Bane is also a supreme strategist equal to Batman -- key to making him such a deadly threat!

Bane and Lex Luthor were officially revealed last month by @Gamer Magazine [full story]. You can get a closer look at the CG model thanks to character renders released by Injustice.com. The site will be the home of an upcoming promotional campaign that pits characters against one another in fantasy match-ups.

Injustice: Green Lantern/Deathstroke Wallpaper & Banners
Green Lantern & Deathstroke clash in new artwork; Joker smiles, Superman undresses.

Comic books are an inherently graphic medium, so it's probably to be expected that we get a few pictures on the way to the April release of Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Those handsome devils at NetherRealm Studios have recently delivered promotional images via Facebook and Twitter accounts. They showcase just a few of the confirmed playable heroes and villains from the DC Comics fighter!

In an interview with Giant Bomb; Hector Sanchez discussed an upcoming promotional campaign built around the dream match-ups the game will deliver. Review: Injustice: Gods Among Us #1
A Critical Look at Injustice: Gods Among Us #1 - Full Print Edition.

When you consider the instant success Injustice: Gods Among Us has had through digital-first release [full story], you have to think this is a comic already fulfilling its primary objective(s).

Print copies of #1 (released January 30) contain the first three chapters of the digital counterpart. Mortal Kombat Online is reviewing based on both, but if you asked for preference, the paper copy takes it. The printed page -- which is cut roughly in half for digital release -- is not only more forgiving to the empty space of panels and the quality of linework, but also the overall pacing of the read.

The natural format of a modern comic lends itself to page-to-page scene breaks, but it could be speculated writer Tom Taylor is more aware of his obligations to digital chapters than is normal. Important story beats segment well, but this doesn't entirely playout in the artwork, which feels hyper-extended in the digital version.

Jheremy Raapack in particular seems much more at home in a traditional 7x11 comic page, with layouts a little less obviously accounting for a page split. When Mike S. Miller and Axel Gimenez take over, the equator becomes more obvious. These panels feel better filled in digital chunks, but compound the unexpected interruption of mid-story style changes. There's a lot to like about Raapack's stylized chunkiness; Miller is crisp and clean.

External forces weighing on the series make it an unusual comic to review, but also speaks to the varied audiences it will inevitably reach. If you aren't looking for the metatext, you won't be too distracted. There are a lot of ways to enjoy this comic, and if anecdotal evidence is anything to go by, plenty of people already are! This is the tie-in's tie-in -- perfect for introducing an interested new audience to the DC superhero medium.

Five years before the New Regime -- Lois Lane is pregnant.
Ever the career woman, Lane refuses to give up her responsibilities as a hard-hitting journalist. This fact plays perfectly into the hands of The Joker and Harley Quinn -- visitors to Metropolis for unknown nefarious reasons.

When Star Labs lose the kryptonite they've been experimenting on, it's already too late for Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen - shot dead by the clown prince of crime. When a smiling Scarecrow joins the list of victims, the threat becomes increasingly apparent to the horrified heroes.

An all points bulletin for the missing Lois Lane sets the Justice League into action, but when Superman reaches Joker's operating room of terror first, he is confronted by Doomsday! As he attacks the monster who once nearly killed him, the fates of his wife and unborn child are already sealed. When the battle is done, Superman will pay dearly for flying right into Joker's trap.

By paying homage to the dictatorship of the game, page one sets the scene for an inevitable grim turn. More might've been made of the New Regime character shift in the issue itself, but the context is certainly there. If there was any doubt about things going horribly wrong, the immediately following wedded bliss of Superman and Lois Lane sounds a foreboding alarm that plays throughout.

Injustice: Gods Among Us #1 is a comic that gets right to ticking off the boxes of its plot, almost clumsily so. The iconic status of the DC characters gives these new versions the benefit of assumptions, but it might have been nice to get more context for each tick. Characters certainly play into expected roles, but their actions lack the depth of reason or causality that more memorable stories possess. Alone, the work runs the risk of feeling shallow and incomplete.

Seasoned readers might find familiar cliches frustrating, but the straight forward simplicity is a soft entry point for new readers who are probably a big part of the target audience. Much has been made about the revolution of fighting game storytelling Injustice will bring, but this feels very much in the milieu of what gamers are used to.

The issue is punctuated with a twist ending, which much of the second and third chapters revolve around. The ending itself is well earned and grants the necessary mythology for a world ruled by dicator superheroes, but telegraphing the finish goes beyond grim twist, to frustrating delay. More cobra clutch than gut punch.

Now that we have trailers dedicated to the Death of Metropolis -- the edge is certainly taken off. The event itself is very much Emerald Twilight meets Kingdom Come, hopefully with some referencial awareness [in future episodes].

Scenes dedicated to talking around the conclusion feel like wasted pages, which might have been better used earlier, to fill-in the world and provide more gravitas to each contributing sequence. That lack of weight makes it feel more like an intellectual explanation than emotional shock. Poor ol' Jimmy Olsen kicks the bucket without so much as a second thought! Lois Lane gets time, but questionable depth.

It's important to remember that this is a series with many issues to go. With five years to play in, and perhaps greater context to the events of the first issue, we'll be keen to see where things go. There's a lot of room to move in following issues and even a few questions already begging answers. Solicitations suggest we'll be staying with the five years leading to the New Regime, but Joker's motivation for going to Metropolis in the first place is a plot point we'll be keeping an eye on.

The complexity of influences imposed on this first issue belies the relative simplicity of its content.

Timing is probably crucial to the success of this comic, which fills in the backstory of a game we won't see until April. Though set five years before the events of the game, you've got to think details as crucial as those depicted are going to be repeated in the game itself. In this sense, Injustice: Gods Among Us #1 is as much promotional teaser as it is a "new reader friendly" story. In this sense, it has already succeeded.

Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern are deserving of mention, joining Batman (and Superman) to comprise a Justice League of five. An interesting choice, to say the least. We know all the heroes and villains [actually] featured are playable inclusions. Looks like Scarecrow might be outta luck, though.

Don't forget to read the free Injustice: Gods Among Us #1 preview! You can now find the full issue at all good comic stores! If you'd rather go digital, pick up the first three chapters for 99c each via; DC Entertainment, Comixology or Amazon Kindle Store! Preview & discuss solicitations for issues #2, #3 and #4 on Mortal Kombat Online!.
