Would a little forum with characters specific sections be that much of a big deal? This is a Mortal Kombat site after all, why not have small forums dedicated to the characters.

Besides this site has a name that attracts people who play online.. it's called "Mortal Kombat Online" after all. If I were playing online and I wanted to get good at the game I'd go to google and type in "Mortal Kombat Online" and most likely this site would show up.

That's legit...

So here, we got something like 64 characters to consider right? Which means(if I'm receiving you right) a possible 64 more pages of programming to manipulate into the syntax of the existing layout of MKO. Certain portions are essentially copy and paste, but fundamentals in operation can depend from page to page.

Also, from what I am aware of, this is a privately funded site that requires alot of maintenance. Hence all the active mods.

So, if I'm DAB and company, and I'm paying for this site through my own means and resources, AND I'm one of the people spending my time programming all this stuff up so that it works well......I'm sure I'd be inclined to disappoint a few people along the way. Somebody won't get what they want after I'm finished setting everything up. This is without questioning that these guys definitely know what they're doing...k?
====

Now, From my own experience with programing a couple websites, I eventually came to the conclusion that one solid overhaul every now and then is the most logical approach, and not spot implementation (doing things that way is tedious, time, and cost consuming).

So, if I were you guys that want these things, I'd put some sort of very specific, very detailed list together.....and shoot the admins a PM or Email.

From there all you can do is cross your fingers, and hope they show your crowd some consideration in a future rebuild.
==============
--------
==============

As a side note for how to use what's already here in that fashion you suggest, there's this stickied thread in the Overall Forum. Just to give you an idea for how to implement that sort of thing, without insisting the format of the site be manipulated in order for you guys to have such a thing. It's sort of an archive of its own, and it doesn't violate any rules to do it that way. As you can see.

Those threads have everything from a characters' mere fandom in them, as well as some story elements, gameplay elements, fanart, videos, and all kinds of other links. Look in my sig space for my Raiden thread as a kind of example. However, I think that if these types of threads existed over here in the PSOnline and XBL forums, you'd be without some of those things, and could thus, cater those threads to appease the kind of content you guys are most interested in.

That way, you don't need to have the site be manipulated, and you still get what you want from the "forum with little character specific" topics in it.

Just explaining that one way is easier, and more feasible than the other to accomplish, and gives a pretty good "happy medium".

Well I haven't visited the online community in a little over a week due to work and school and what I've read is really rather disturbing. I've lost a lot of respect for JTF for what he has done getting the whole lot of us involved in his dispute with mesofly by closing the site, it wasn't right. I wish I could have read the entire dispute so I could have a clear understanding, but his action of closing the site and punishing everyone was lame in itself and told me a lot.

At Trax I apologize to you for not taking you as seriously as I should have when you spoke to me on the mic about JTF. I wouldn't listen to someone like MKF speak about him because he's a flat out liar and idiot but you actually seemed sincere and now all you have said is now come into reality.

I have never had any real problems with MKO. I think the forum software is outdated and some of the mods are a little harsh but this site isn't really that bad. It's just a matter of choice.

I'm going to have to agree with Blaze on this comment 100%. MKO's biggest problem are the mods that enforce the rules. I've seen mods on here ban users after responding to insults that the mods threw at the user similarly like JTF. I believe the mods should be community members who actually play the game competitively and not just anyone. MKC was a good/strong community where moderators were just as willing to get in games and have fun just like the regular users. Its a shame something like this had to happen over some stupid dispute. Oh well it is what it is.

That's the gist of it. The site doesn't care about gameplay or the people that concern themselves with it. It's just not their thing. This place is not for us.

I don't think I'm better than them.

You're really close.

Something similar to your guys' situation for me is, I would appreciate more things here that make stuff easier for graphic artists. Like a better archive for the default avatars users can wear, a higher kb limit per user, a better cutout resource, or a better organized request system. So that people virtually never wear the same stuff around here, and we don't have to make ev-ery-sing-le-Sub-Zero or Scorpion sig and avatar. I'd also appreciate more great tutorials, and start up stuff for the n00b that comes along and PM's me like: "Hai h0w d0 yu0 m4k3 pictur3z!!?!!!"

I get that, all the time.

But guess what? Even though there's alot of us around MKO, this site isn't DeviantArt.com, it's not PlantetRenders.net, or any of the other sites that consider these concerns more intimately. So, all I can do is either make a thread and hope it gets stickied (well now, I have a little bit more power over that, but y'see what I mean), or post my concerns and recommendations for this site in the Feedback Thread, and hope they consider them whenever they overhaul the whole site again.
======

But you can see now, that alot of the better graphic artists, don't come around here at all anymore, because their interest aren't specifically catered to. Right now though, I bet you'll find most of them on Deviantart, PlanetRenders, a couple on PSDTuts.com, and various other graphics specific sites.

==

So it's not that MKO "doesn't care about gameplay", it's more that there is a general populous that we accommodate instead of any one group in particular. (like a hotel with alot of different types of customers)

That allows people to come here, find out that there really are hard core gameplay, story, and graphic arts fans on MKO.....and then leave when they've grown out of the stuff that we can offer them at this time.

I'm just saying that right now, it's not feasible to "cater" to any one group in particular. Which I guess results in the casual fan having a more obvious presence than say....you gameplay guys, or me and my graphic arts guys. Or someone like XiahouDun84 and his story-line guys. (those guys want a better "MK Bible", for example. But "they can't have it, and until further notice, they assume that they will not get it.")

Uum, That's pretty much all the important elements that make up MK aside from hardcore programmers (much more hard core than say, the typical M.U.G.E.N programmer) .....but I haven't seen many of those guys around MKO. So I guess we don't need to worry about them right now.

If you can understand this, then it's likely easier to see how many options are actually still available to your group...without insisting that the site change in any real way. Dun't "have" to in order to entertain your group.

Good to have you around Groy and thanks for your post. Even though I knew JTF had the tendency of actually doing something as stupid as pulling the plug I never actually actually thought he would do such a thing to the the users out of respect. I think that's the real shame of it all; the lack of respect for the users.

I'm no longer replying to you, m2dave, following this.

Take your own advice. Read what you wrote, and you can figure out why. This site "kisses Boon's ass"? Ever since MKDA I have supported knowledgeable gameplay experts I respect. Check and HDTran are great examples of what you should be if you ever think I will care about what you have to say. You do belittle me and this site. Every time you post your tone is condescending. I don't care if you add the "this might be harsh" disclaimer to your posts.

Tell me, how does stickying all of HDTran's threads (which normally have used the phrase "failed fighting engine") equate to us just loving MK because Boon made it? What better way to praise MK blindly than to sticky and promote threads that elude to the game being broken.You're being foolish. You want MKO to be something it is not. You want us to be mindless drones in league with Midway to fall at their feet in praise. That is far from the case, and the evidence I have presented is only the tip of the iceberg. Simply because we have things like Fight Night and interviews with Ed Boon and company does not mean we feel the game is perfect, or in my case, even remotely fun/good to play at all. I can't speak for any other mod or staff member on this site, but do you know why I don't play MKD or MKA online? Because, in my opinion, they are terrible games to actually "play". I'm here because I like MK's storyline. That's my personal preference. I'd like it if the games were more fun to play, but to me, I did not enjoy the previous engine passed MK:DA.

You clearly have a predetermined and biased opinion of this website. You offer no evidence to your claims we are the things you claim, while I have offered evidence against it. Therefore, until you change your ways and become more like the users I mentioned... "it may be harsh", but you are not worth my time anymore.

GTrax Wrote:
Here are simple facts (NOT opinion, but FACTS!) that you guys are missing out....

1. MKO created the community we all thrive on today. It's irrelevant if the guys that were here back then are still around, but it all started with MKO! That is a simple fact!

2. How can you say MKO is a news site and not an online community? There is absolutely no substance in that statement at all. The mere fact that we are having this conversation already defies that statement. CNN is a news site; MKO is a place where everyone can contribute to the news and share their opinion hence forming a community for people of common interest, which is MK!

3. MKO actually served the community so well in MKD days. However, many of us grew enormous egos and everyone felt special thereby leading to them thinking they are bigger than the site. That was what lead to the exodus and add JTF effect to it, then you have what we have today.

4. Lastly; FUCK the talk of high level bullcrap! Who cares if you RULE the world of MK? So fuckin' what? Do you choose your friends based on how well they fit a profile that matches your definition of success? Can you guys not see how narrow minded that argument is? A community is a place every member is a fabric irrespective of their social status. NO one is more important! (Well, apart from me!.. lol.... - THAT'S A JOKE!)

===================================

NOW, I'm not siding with anyone or any site. I will post at MKU and I will keep posting here (MKO). I will respect the rules wherever I go. But I will not get into a debate of why one site is better than the other. It's a futile argument.

Trax

PS: Cut down on your egos people! This is not a popularity contest. No one fricken gets paid for this sh!t! Let's just have fun wasting away talking about video games. haha.. GOD! We're SAD!

nice post. and until people can learn to accept both sites. as well as UMK as part of the online community. then it will remain as ego driven as JTF's plot "to destroy MKO by taking all of its members" and i take that back. every single MK site that composes messages on a monthly basis is part of the online community. not a particular site that is claiming to "unite" everyone.

ill always go to MKO because it is the exact same site as MKAC/MKC/MKU. all these bullshit claims being mad about combos videos and character guides is bullshit. also the stuff that m2dave is saying is bullshit to me. maybe he is looking elsewhere outside of the online sections. but when it comes to online. EVERYTHING happened here, and i helped make that possible. and my combo video thread is fucking STICKIED ty very much. ive already told dave this so i dont know why he decided to post this nonsense and others who are blind, have been blind.

anyway MKO will always be better. the only thing that is somewhat decent is that shoutbox which i dont even use because i find it pointless with programs such as AIM/Yahoo IM etc.... and you have the IRC channel here anyway.

everything is bullshit in this thread except for those defending MKO. everything else is complete dogshit... any idiot with half a brain could see that, same as JTF. but yea, look who listened to that when/i others was telling the community about that. LOL. yea lets all defend JTF even when hes wrong anyway just so we dont have to go back to MKO.

peace

I am not trying to insult any site or anything but i felt more welcome and more like my opinion mattered more at mkc
