Raiden is my favorite character so I'm glad we are finally going to start seeing something from him. I don't want him to have a staff in this game at all, I actually always hated when they gave him weapons anyway, he's a GOD he does not need weapons lol. Jade has a staff anyway so it would seem silly to give them both the same weapon.

Raiden brought the REAL Johnny Cage out of Heaven in MK4. And Cage was happy to come back.

Dark Raiden, on the other hand, brought ONLY Liu's BODY back, specifically to be a mindless enforcer, and that body KILLED MONKS for no reason.

You cannot ignore that.

They're both characters that are using or being used for their talents to protect earth. Raiden re-initiates them both.

I am really excited about this! Been waiting patiently to see what good ol Raiden is gonna pump out. I hope I like his costume a bit more once I see him in action. Its the only costume that I have been less than thrilled with.

Hoping we'll get deeper into the story mode with Raiden's vids. Maybe we'll even seem some Kahn combat, who knows?

So about this Raiden character. Did any of you beat Mortal Kombat (the first one) with him? I'm pretty sure the destruction of Earth is more evil than good. Although, I guess he was just indifferent back then.

For real. I can't believe that guy wanted to see new stuff for characters he's interested in.

Raiden's motives are questionable. He wants to protect the REALM of Earth but cares nothing for its PEOPLE any longer.

When he was "light" Raiden, the REASON he wanted to protect the realm was a combination of it being his assigned role and his care for the mortals under his protection.

But Dark Raiden is no longer the official protector, that's Fujin's job. And he no longer cares about people. So if it's not his job and he's not doing it out of kindness, you have to ask yourself what his endgame is. It's entirely possible he's started to consider the realm "this is my turf, stop fucking with it" as though it's his personal property.

And if he thinks the realm is "his", that barely makes him any different from the same reason Shinnok and Shao Kahn want it. You can even see exactly how far he's willing to go in his MKA ending where he decides to destroy every realm but Earth, as the ultimate way of protecting it. There's no way to not call genocide an act of villainy.

And again, his motives don't fucking matter. Good and evil aren't determined by your motives, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Your alignment is decided by your ACTIONS and Dark Raiden has done nothing BUT acts that I would easily describe as evil since he became that way. Desecrating the dead, using the body of his closest mortal ally as a weapon, rampant assault and murder mostly of innocent men, allying with the Forces of Darkness, Raiden did bad things. The reason he did them barely matters, and if it did, the reason isn't even altruistic anymore either. He's just become selfish and possessive.

Its not that, I understand everyone likes different characters, but he ends it off with saying "someone that actually matters" and only an ignoramus would think raiden didnt 'matter' to mortal kombat, especially in this upcoming game

I always figured delusioned or insane might be the most fitting term for Dark Raiden. The reason I thought he became dark in the first place was because the whole rebirth process re-configured him to the will of the one being. Not sure if gods being reborn is a law of nature in the MK canon, but if everything is ultimately part of the one being, then it doesn't seem like a stretch that the natural rebirth process contorted Raiden into the One Being's mechanism.

Just a thought. I'm not married to this idea.

Because this entire game will be about Raiden and Raiden only and has nothing to do with anyone else. They might as well not even be in the game cause they are irrelevant. This game might as well me Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Raiden then right?

Other characters that havent gotten a full reveal are just as if not more important than Raiden. Remember this game is happening because Raiden HAS FAILED LOL!

- The only thing he let go of as Dark Raiden was the trust in man's free will. And he is now unwilling to solely depend on mortals to do the work to ensure EarthRealm stays safe. THAT is only intolerant. That's not evil.

That's a common trait in folks who are more ruthless. Ruthless people may very well have positive motivations for doing the things they do but, their methods are always questionable (i.e. "agreeable with the rest of society".). Which is what I think you may be misplacing when you say that "he doesn't care about Earth's people".

- The only people/mortals he doesn't care for, are the ones in the mix trying to help the situation, but screw it up.... Like Shujinko. That's why in his ending, he kills Shujinko.

- The other people in the mix that he can't outright kill, but can use as an ends to his means, are the big bad guys. THAT's why he's playing "puppet master" with them.

- "EarthRealm" as his turf is totally screwed up Razor. There is the "matter of opinion" you're talking about right there. There's never been any inkling of prove to suggest he's possessive over EarthRealm like that. He just doesn't want mortals to have the primary influence over the subject anymore.

I get that Raiden is your favorite character and you don't want to think of him as evil, but this is the same shit as an X-Men fan saying Magneto's not a villain. You may agree with the reason he did things sometimes, you can use the Malcolm X comparison on Magneto too, but at the end of the day, Magneto is a mass fucking murderer. And so is Dark Raiden. Actually. at least Magneto has friends and regrets past decisions. Dark Raiden shows no remorse for anything. (And hey while I'm on the subject, maybe Malcolm X is a terrible rolemodel. You think if he'd gotten shot, he'd have his own day on the calendar now like MLK? Nah, not so much.)

By the way, did anyone ever play as Raiden in Unreal Championship 2? He had a few cool moves in that game and some like, lightning pistols. It was a shooter afterall.

Good and evil is a concept based on the perciever. Razor could think that how Dark Raiden is and what he does is evil while Predator doesn't. Neither of you are wrong or right, because you see things differently from one another. It is all a matter of opinion and perspective.

Personally, I liked Dark Raiden better than "Light" Raiden. A broken god who's acts to protect Earthrealm are questionable. It gave Fujin the perfect chance to step into the spotlight, however, the MK team failed to do so. And Dark Raiden is a more interesting character, in my opinion.
