Producer Shares Mortal Kombat Movie Sequel Set Photos
Red rocks, smoky lanterns, and a big knife!

The atmosphere in Australia is getting thick and it can only mean the Mortal Kombat movie sequel is back in production! Producer Todd Garner has been sharing photographs from the set, teasing glimpses of exotic new locations and returning kombatants. Take a closer look:

Blazing red rock, Asian influenced lanterns & doors, a Citizen Cage logo, and a knife that could give a guy a smile from ear to ear: It's just some of the charged imagery featured in photographs shared to X (formerly Twitter) by the returning film producer. His posts began November 16th, correlating with the return to work after the end of the WAG/SAG-AFTRA strike.

Among his tweets are also happy snaps with various cast members [pictured below], visiting series co-creator Ed Boon, and an agreeing response to a ScreenRant article about the benefits sequels and their ability to "clear up any misconceptions or mistakes from the first film".

Garner was a very visible & vocal proponent for the first film, openly discussing creative decisions and championing its production. He shared a joking exchange with Ed Boon, who noted of the latest images: "Man, this guy is a bigger tease than that fool Ed Boon".

See anything you like? What do you think the mysterious, atmospheric images will correspond with in the film sequel? Could these be areas relevant to the Outworld & Edenian characters joining? Lost Kontent: Jasco Games Tabletop Mortal Kombat 11 Designs
The tabletop minifigs that might have been!

Mortal Kombat has conquered many realms of merchandise, but we haven't seen the beloved fighting franchise make a full entry into the world of miniature tabletop gaming. We first saw designs for Mortal Kombat: The Miniatures Game when it was still an MKX prototype project back in 2015, and now we have designs from its ill fated Mortal Kombat 11 iteration. Take a look:

Colourful and vibrant designs for dozens of miniature figurines based on Mortal Kombat 11 have been released to Discord by the Jasco Games designer. It shows an exciting picture of what might've been had the gaming minifigs come to fruition, including a few Klassic designs, as well. Browse the gallery below:

Prototype Mortal Kombat X inspired figures were displayed at GenCon 2015, but despite a brief detour into the world of Kickstarter crowdfunding, it seems Jasco weren't able to follow through with their grand plans for the Mortal Kombat license. A Street Fighter version was produced.

Mortal Kombat did find its way into the Universal Fighting System collectible card game, which continues to be a focus for the company since its acquisition in March by POW! Interactive.

Ed Boon Promises Updates to Mortal Kombat 1 Online Are Coming
AEW fan sign prompts clear response!

NetherRealm Studios Chief Creative Officer Ed Boon is no stranger to receiving fervent feedback from passionate fans online, but one die hard took his request to the court of televised crowd signs, drawing a response that promises key updates to Mortal Kombat 1. Read on for details:

Boon used X (formerly Twitter) to respond to EventHubs coverage of a tongue-in-cheek fan sign [pictured below via @813ISAAC], which appeared during coverage of the AEW Full Gear pro wrestling pay-per-view event on Saturday. Personally addressed to the developer head, the sign reads "WiFi Filter please!!! Mr. Boon!". It refers to quality of life issues plaguing online play of Mortal Kombat 1. Update:The sign holder & author has been identified as Philler Instinct.

In his reply, Boon promised the requested feature, as well as the much discussed "krossplay" function bridging different platforms and seen in Mortal Kombat 11, are both on their way subject to quality control. 'We just gotta make sure they’re solid. More info koming soon! Thanks for your patience [prayer emoji]'. In a follow-up response, Boon added "We’ll be rolling out the features. WiFi filter/decline comes first."

The Wifi Filter featured second in a user poll conducted by Boon earlier this month, garnering 10.6% of the vote. Krossplay was a stand-out feature, earning a dominant 75.5% of the 57,508 votes tallied -- more than 43,000 votes! The poll also included changing ranked play to best 2/3 (7.5%) and a ping filter (6.4%). The former has since been implemented for Kombat League, reducing the 3/5 format.

Once included, the features will broaden the online player base, while also allowing players to make more informed qualitative decisions about the matches and opponents they compete with. NetherRealm Studios first addressed the omission of krossplay in September, after material initially listed its inclusion. Krossplay was a successful feature for MK11.

Mortal Kombat 1 Homelander Won't Share Live-Action Voice
Antony Starr rules out MK1 role.

Homelander is one of three comic book guest characters coming to Mortal Kombat 1 as downloadable content -- but don't expect to hear the familiar voice of his live-action counterpart! Actor Antony Starr has ruled out his involvement with the upcoming video game crossover. Read on for details:

Since 2019 the Kiwi actor has menaced as a Superman-esque superhero with an extreme dark side on Amazon Prime's The Boys. He appeared most recently in the live-action spin-off series Gen V -- both shows based on the 2006 comic book created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

The breakout success of the character has led Antony Starr to lend his voice to a 2022 animated version in The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and in a video game appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II earlier this year -- but in a recent Instagram reply he confirmed the same won't be true for Mortal Kombat. Reddit user ZeroDarkPurdy14 captured the short, sharp reply pictured below:

It's not the first time Mortal Kombat has had to get creative with its guest characters: Mortal Kombat 11 was forced to find an Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonator when Terminator's T-800 crossed over with the actor's likeness. A compromise that led to mixed reviews, but avoided the confusion and mess that came from a prospective Evil Dead crossover.

Mortal Kombat 1 has had better success with some of its other cross-promotion, boasting Jean-Claude Van Damme voice & likeness for Johnny Cage, and Academy Award winning actor JK Simmons reprising his role as similar comic book menace, Omni-Man.

Will this diminish Homelander's appearance in upcoming downloadable content? Share your thoughts in the comments below and dig deeper into the discussions in the Mortal Kombat 1 forum.
