Mortal Kombat Movie Producer Teases Sets & Chain Spear
Also featuring cold stone, sharp metal, and more!

As work on the live-action Mortal Kombat movie sequel continues in earnest -- producer Todd Garner is continuing to give fans a glimpse into the upcoming world of "MK2". From the abstract to the sharp & pointy, it's a non-stop gallery of teasers that may have pointed to the return of a fan-favourite character. Take a closer look:

Followers of Todd Garner on X (aka; Twitter) can attest to a steady stream of behind the scenes images, some more discernible than others. The majority show things of stone and steel, setting a mood for the sequel's entry into the mythology of Outworld & Edenia and a "weird" side of the universe, with one noteable image [pictured below] showing what might be Scorpion's spear.

This month's crop adds to more images shared by the producer, who's taken a page from Ed Boon's prolific social media micro-blogging game! Perhaps he was inspired by the video game Chief Creative Officer and co-creator's visit to the Australian back lot.

John Tobias Draws Kerri Hoskins Signed Sonya Art For Auction
Fight4Rare charity auctions one of a kind signed piece.

Mortal Kombat co-creator and character designer John Tobias has produced a rare new rendering -- and it can be yours to own! The one of a kind Sonya Blade will be signed by Tobias and the model who brought her to life, Kerri Hoskins, with proceeds contributing to the Raiden Science Foundation. Read on for details:

The special colour piece, depicting the well loved Mortal Kombat 3 incarnation of Sonya, is 18" x 24" (45.7cm x 61cm), and shows the klassic Special Forces fighter flexing with her iconic pink rings around the left wrist [pictured below].

The Fight4Rare auction began at $1, but in just two days has already reached $601, with bidding to close December 17th.

Money generated by the auction will go to the Raiden Science Foundation, and contribute to life-saving medical research at UMass Chan Medical School, to find treatments for the UBA5 genetic disorder, which has afflicted charity starter Linda and Tommy Pham's 3 year old son, Raiden.

In support of the project, John Tobias remarked to X, "So much fun drawing MK3 Sonya. I think the last drawing I did of that version of the character was the MK3 costume concept 25 [plus years ago]. Great cause! Get your bids in now!" Kerri Hoskins also thanked fans for joining the fight.

Have you put a bid in for this rare piece of MK memorabilia? Tell us all about it in the comments below and keep the retro conversation coming in the 2D Kombat Klassics category!

Big Surprise Coming After New Mortal Kombat 1 Story Mode DLC
A second story confirmed at CCXP!

NetherRealm Studios Chief Creative Officer Ed Boon spent the weekend in sunny São Paulo last Sunday, but it was all business as he attended the Omelete Stage at CCXP2023 to drop some major teases for Mortal Kombat 1! There are big things coming in 2024! Read on for more:

Hot on the heels of the official Quan Chi & Khameleon Gameplay Trailer, Ed Boon confirmed suspicions that there will be a "second part, with more story" some time in the near future, similar to the Story Mode extension featured with Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath.

It's been well established that Mortal Kombat 1 is to have the longest cycle of post-release downloadable content support of any NetherRealm Studios game to date after MK11 set a new benchmark with Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. The final release stretched the experience to 13 additional characters, with the developer's first foray into downloadable story modes, multiple new arenas, and various other updates supplied over almost two years of support.

The conclusion of Mortal Kombat 1's multiversal timeline collision implies the next chapter of the story may feature a Havik with Titan powers, which could spell even more chaos for the series after a pretty wild ride, but that's not all!

Ed Boon also teased "a big surprise after that", reiterating that MK1 will enjoy the longest duration of post-release support of any title. What does that surprise entail? Your guess is as good as ours. The CCO wasn't giving away any more clues, leaving it at that in a clip widely shared through X (aka; Twitter) social media via Wesley Carlos [embedded below].

We're assuming promised quality of life updates will happen sooner than then. So what do you think is next for the MK1 story? What do you hope the big surprise might be? Share your speculation in the comments below and go deeper into discussion in the Mortal Kombat 1 category!

Mortal Kombat 1 Quan Chi & Khameleon Gameplay Trailer
Quan Chi's has a tentacle in every fight!

Quan Chi is officially back this month -- the next kombatant to become fully playable in Mortal Kombat 1. In the latest Kombat Pack gameplay trailer he's joined by future Kameo Fighter Khameleon. Can anyone escape the dark sorcerer's reach? Watch for yourself:

Quan Chi has always been a master of dark & sinister arts, but his reach spans farther than ever before as his new play style incorporates the tentacles of something resembling Lovecraftian old gods! Magic skulls nibble at foes while Quan stomps on opponents with nimble toes, but the coup de grace of his new glass slide fatality is what's really awaiting study!

Quan Chi had a significant role in Mortal Kombat 1's story mode, but is now fleshed out as a fully playable character, and the downloadable fighter will enter Early Release for premium Kombat Pack holders starting December 14th, before going wide to digital stores December 21st -- just in time for Kwanza! (Or is that Quanza..?).

Sharp-eyed fans will have noticed Khameleon mingling amongst the Outworld Umgadi, in Story Mode, as well. As the next DLC Kameo Fighter she calls back to her days as a Nintendo exclusive NPC, wielding the colors and skills of the arcade female palette swaps to assist with Kitana's fans, Jade's staff, and more! The returning cult-favourite will be released January, 2024.
