John Tobias joins WB Games San Diego
MK Co-Creator's New Employment

After leaving a legacy behind in Mortal Kombat and after his work at Studio Gigante, John Tobias worked as a consultant in the games industry until 2012, when he joined social games studio Zynga. Earlier today, in response to someone who had asked him what he was up to, John dropped a tweet that said: "Keeping busy! Building the WBGames San Diego Studio w some super awesome people to create some super awesome games".

WB Games San Diego is a mobile game studio, creating free to play mobile games. It's unclear what exact role John Tobias may have in the company at this time, but this is exciting news none the less!

What does this mean for the world of Mortal Kombat? No one is really certain, but either way, it's quite a treat to see this industry legend working with Warner Bros. in the gaming industry.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge Trailer
Klassic fighters gather for cartoon Kombat!

The first trailer for the Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge animated feature has been released, revealing the first look at MK's new animation style and plot! Watch it here and read on for more details:

The 96 second trailer features the classic tournament plot from the original game, which was most recently retold and revised for the 2011 reboot, which Legends appears to take cues from. Patrick Seitz stars as Scorpion, whose titular revenge appears to take him from his rebirth after death in the Netherrealm, to his time pursuing Sub-Zero and serving the machinations of Quan Chi during the Mortal Kombat tournament. Character designs pay homage to Mortal Kombat X, with a clear focus on Scorpion's origins, but how much of his classic revenge plot and its revelations will play out in the feature remains to be seen.

Zelina Vega Enters WWE Royal Rumble as Sindel
MK cosplay at annual wrestling event.

The lines between Mortal Kombat and World Wrestling Entertainment blurred at today's annual Royal Rumble pay per view event. Wrestler Zelina Vega entered the rumble match at #25 dressed as one of the hottest Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters: Sindel! Take a look:

Vega entered the match at #25, arriving dramatically with an MK11 inspired, shoulder-armored jacket and raised arms that had Sindel fans screaming. It was a hard day at the office from there, her run ended with a choke hold from NXT Champion Shayna Baszler. Fortunately, there was plenty of time to show off her special ring gear, captured on the way out in a photo featured by WWE.com [below].

Zelina Vega was one of the WWE talents in attendance at last year's MK11 Reveal event, which also featured WWE Champion turned voice actor Ronda Rousey. She appeared in Sonya inspired attire at the 2019 Elimination Chamber.

Sindel returned in Mortal Kombat 11 late last year as one of the downloadable characters from the Kombat Pack! The updated scream queen can be seen in a featured reveal trailer and is available to purchase now! Did Vega's cosplay do her justice? Mortal Kombat Kollection Online Rated By PEGI
European rating listed for cancelled klassic remaster.

A European ratings listing for "Mortal Kombat Kollection Online" has given fresh hope for a retro remaster of the original arcade Mortal Kombat trilogy. A newly discovered PEGI entry is just the latest chapter in the decade long saga of the once-cancelled HD project. Read on for the full story:

Found on the official website for Pan European Game Information; Mortal Kombat Kollection Online is described as "... the original Mortal Kombat trilogy that MK fans always wanted. Upgraded art, gameplay, and online features provide an incredible experience that revives the "klassics"..."

Niche gaming sites Nintendoros and Gematsu began circulating the listing earlier today, attributed to Warner Brothers Entertainment UK, with a European rating of 18+ for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. If legitimate, a release date of January 21st, 2020 is likely a placeholder.

Sensational reports of an HD remake first emerged ten years ago. Four years later, the floodgates of confirmation finally opened, with Ed Boon discussing an abandoned Mortal Kombat II Director's Cut, while a fan-made remake of the first Mortal Kombat received a much-discussed cease & desist order from Warner Brothers.

Pictures confirming a photo shoot for live-action sprites soon followed, revealing new actors in the roles of characters from Mortal Kombat II and 3. Speaking to someone who worked on the ill fated project, MK Online learned it was unceremoniously cancelled after Warner Brothers had scaled back amidst concerns of a clash with the 2011 series reboot. "The game was only meant to be a filler before the [reboot] was out, so it's understandable why they didn't [want] a full game that would take the sales of the [MK2011]."

Last year, artist Danny Huynh released menu interface and fatality concept art that first revealed the Mortal Kombat Kollection Online title, also known as Mortal Kombat Remastered. The images allude to a drastically expanded range of modes and features beyond those included with the 2012 Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection. In a 2019 interview with Gameinformer, Ed Boon expressed skepticism about the sustained interest in an HD remake beyond the initial novelty.

Fans are braced for something big in 2020, with Ed Boon calling Mortal Kombat 11 the end to the MK story, and promising a big surprise. Mortal Kombat Legends Animated Feature Announced
Scorpion's Revenge cast revealed!

Mortal Kombat is set to get animated later this year with the release of Warner Bros Animation's first cartoon feature based on the hit fighting game franchise: Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge. The long rumored cast was revealed to much acclaim in a report today. Full story and title image follow:

Rumors of Mortal Kombat's return to animation first started circulating this time last year, with early reports proving to be incredibly accurate with the confirmation of voice talent led by Joel McHale as Johnny Cage and Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade.

The Hollywood Reporter announced the animated feature, coming to an undetermined platform in the "first half" of 2020. It has been widely speculated the movie will release to Warner's HBO Max streaming service.

Scorpion's Revenge will star the familiar vocal talent of Patrick Seitz, reprising his role as Scorpion from the video game. He'll reportedly be joined by Steve Blum as Sub-Zero, Grey Griffin as both Satoshi Hasashi and Kitana, Darin DePaul as Quan Chi, David B. Mitchell as Raiden, Jordan Rodrigues as Liu Kang, Artt Butler as Shang Tsung, Robin Atkin Downes as Kano, Ike Amadi as Jax, and Fred Tatasciore as "Demon Torturer". Kevin MIchael Richardson will also provide the voice for Goro - a role he played fifteen years ago in the 1995 Mortal Kombat feature film!

Scorpion has long served as one of the series' most recognised mascots. His tale of death and revenge has remained one of the most consistent throughout the Mortal Kombat mythology, begun with his murder of his family & clan and his own death at the hands of nemesis Sub-Zero. Reborn in the Netherrealm as a ninja spectre, Scorpion unwittingly served the will of the sorcerer who was responsible for his misery - Quan Chi. The story unfolded over several installments of the games with a memorable twist first told in Mortal Kombat 4, retold most recently in Mortal Kombat (2011) and in Mortal Kombat X comic books published by DC [pictured below].

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge is directed by accomplished action animation director Ethan Spaulding (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Justice League: The Throne of Atlantis), with a script by Jeremy Adams (Teen Titans Go! Vs Teen Titans). Rick Morales produces with co-producer Jim Krieg, and executive producer Sam Register. Series co-creator and NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon is credited as creative consultant.

The animated feature will tide multimedia fans over until 2021 when Hiroyuki Sanada will star as Scorpion/Hanzo Hasashi in the next live-action Mortal Kombat feature film. Are you excited? Joker Laughs Last In Mortal Kombat 11 Gameplay Trailer
Let's put a smile on that face!

Knock knock. Who's there? The Joker, of course! The Joker who? The latest downloadable guest character coming to Mortal Kombat 11! The Clown Prince of Crime is bringing a bag full of comic tricks, including DC Elseworlds themed skins for three fighters. See it all in the latest gameplay trailer:

Joker is the latest guest character to invade the world of Mortal Kombat 11 beginning January 28th for players who have Kombat Pack early access! Fans of DC Comics and the Injustice series will be in for a treat, but like any good comedian, The Joker has tailored his references to kill with the Kombat crowd, as well!

The usual guns, knives, cane, and clownish gimmicks make up some of Joker's basic moves, but in Mortal Kombat 11 he's free to unleash even more mortal mayhem than ever before! Hostages become weapons, arriving in wheelchairs, or hopping desperately across the batfield - wired to blow! When it's time for the set up, Joker unleashes a stabbing and cane clubbing frenzy that would make Jason Todd wince! Then the ultimate punchline: a finishing move that starts as a friendship but ends in fatality!

There are plenty of fun references to be found throughout Joker's repertoire, but the biggest surprises may be DC Elseworlds skins for Baraka as Killer Croc, Noob Saibot as The Batman Who Laughs, and Kitana as Catwoman! They're also joined by an individual "Time Lord of Apokolips" Geras as Darkseid, and the previously released Cassie Quinn crossover cosplay.

Joker was last seen haunting the heroes of Injustice 2. How does his latest outing stack up? Mortal Kombat 11 Gets Honest Game Trailer
The likes of which you have seen before!

A steady campaign of action-packed trailers built Mortal Kombat 11 hype to nuclear levels with a succession of teasers and previews, but what if they revealed more than characters? Honest Trailers turns the parody up to 11 to drop comedy truth bombs in their latest look at the fighting franchise. Watch:

They already covered some of MK11's commercially driven pressure points with the Mortal Kombat X Honest Game Trailer, but there are plenty of other tried and true ribs to tickle.

Series tropes like callously implausible violence, multiple in-game currencies, and gratuitous Ks are served up easy. Time travel plots and the gratuitous omnipresence of nostalgic callbacks are also mortally mocked. Of course, it's all in good fun. The video has already got a laugh out of all-powerful Ed Boon, who shared the joke while tweeting: "Gotta admit... this one kracked me up."

The next official trailer will be released in the coming days to preview downloadable DC Comics guest fighter The Joker. Revisit the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack Trailer and discuss all these clips on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!
