That would be cool, but only if the admins can handle the workload on top of other site duties. Prizes probably aren't easy either.

I don't really care about the prizes; I just like sharing stuff.

Still, I don't think we should have semi-annual tournaments, as they would take away the significance of the event.

Plus, the mods have lives, too.

While you folks are awaiting the initiation of the next voting period for this contest, you should venture over to the latest Fake Picture Kontest thread and cast your votes for the entry that is, in your opinion, the most impressive overall. Your participation is genuinely appreciated.

Alright. Maybe the thought of two tournaments a year sounds too excessive. Another solution I can propose is, for those who would like to submit more than one character for the next contest, change the rules to each contestant having the option to enter up to three characters- one per alignment (Good/Neutral/Evil). This could allow contestants to introduce original foils/arch-enemies.

That might be good, though everyone may not want to do one of each. Some may prefer only good, others only evil, or neutral. But it is a pretty good idea.

Created an alternate appearance for Persephone with Saints Row the Third's Initiation Station.

I think it looks pretty neat.

At this point it might be worthwhile to post a site announcement when this gets back underway, just to sort of remind people that it still exists.

That's the plan. Having some delays. Working to make sure once the finals start, we don't get anymore. Sorry about the wait, guys.

Edit: Progress made.

Ahahaha! Just when I thought everyone was tired of hearing me talk. But yes, I suppose I could do that. Taking a look at what the real characters have done right and wrong can help make our fan characters better, so it's still kind of relevant to the topic at hand.

The tone will probably come out a bit different from the fan-character reviews, since the real characters are the source of the story, gameplay, and aesthetic values by which I measure up our fan creations. Of course, that doesn't make the real characters in any way above reproach. There are plenty of instances where the MK creators didn't quite think things all the way through, and embarrassed themselves in front of an international audience.

So Bo' Rai Cho is first on the chopping block! I might have it done this evening, but more likely tomorrow. In the meantime, if you want to see some ways I've made fun of MK before, I have a section of my deviantArt gallery dedicated to Mortal Komic Armageddon, a series of screenshot comics I did when MKA came out years ago.

Ah, yes... the Garlador affair. Boy, did that ever create a ruckus. It was practically an Armageddon fight in itself.

So where would be the ideal place to go with these? MK Series General?

If you're going broad, probably the best choice. If you're tying it to a current perspective, the kontemporary "2011" forum is fine. Should be good. Cheers!

So I got hit with an extra bit of busy-ness when my computer took a crap and lost a project I've been working on. The Beatdowns will have to wait until I at least catch back up to where I was. But when I do get around to them I'll probably make them a weekly thing or something.

Sounds legit.
I really can't wait for the epic-osity of Raiden's beatdown, or all of the slick ice puns we'll get with Sub-Zero, Frost, an in Noob's beginning.

- Kreate-a-Kharacter VII uses a Round Robin format. One randomized match from each of the four Round Robin groups will take place every day. Every character will face the rest of the group.
- Vote for the character(s) you feel are best; vote only for a single character in each of the four daily matches.
- To vote, simply post the names of your choices from the most current match-ups in the official Kreate-a-Kharacer VII thread.
- Everyone may vote. You do not have to be a contestant to vote and you may vote in your own character's match.
- The voting period will last for 24 hours beginning with the posting of the days match-ups.
- A panel of staff judges will contribute two thirds of the deciding Round Robin vote, with the community determining the final third.
- Standard MKOmmunity rules apply. Clone accounts will be banned and disqualified.

So in the Green Lantern vs. Solomon Grundy video, the Lantern performs Eastwind's throw almost exactly. The only real difference is that Eastwind looks more like a brutal barroom fighter doing it, and cracks the wall a little on the first hit. But the basic idea is totally the same!

This marks the third time that the team has actually used an idea that I "predicted" a while beforehand. The first was MK vs DC's entire Klose Kombat system, and the second was when I submitted Kruor to last year's KAK just days before the announcement of Skarlet.

The throw is a minor thing really, but I feel justified in being overly proud of this.

You should be proud; Eastwind is a great character.

Strangely enough, I would be upset if I saw something similar to my own characters in a video game.

A good example of this is a pair of sisters I created known as Mina and Kerra Harper, though together are Mina-Kerra, when they fight in a tag-team fashion. I created them back in '04, and that same year Noob-Smoke came to be, along with Kira, whose name reminds me of Kerra Harper.

I felt like I was robbed of my good ideas, even though I knew it was just a coincidence.

Actually, in my first case with the Klose Kombat system, I was both excited and upset because it's possible the idea actually was robbed from me.

I'd sent Midway an email on the heels of Armageddon with some suggestions for story, characters, and gameplay elements for the next game. One of the suggestions was for a special kind of throw or breaker that pulls the fighters into "Klose Range Kombat" mode, where the camera zooms in on them and through an intricate system of button matching, the fighters exchange blows, parries and counterattacks and it looks more like an action movie sequence. It was a little more labor intensive than what later came out in MK vs. DC, but the parallels were still strikingly similar.

Thing is, when I sent them the ideas, the only feedback I got was a form rejection, saying that they cannot accept unsolicited suggestions for legal reasons (which of course is perfectly reasonable). The reply said basically thanks but no thanks, we appreciate the effort but we can't really look at this. So either a) that was completely true and the team came up with the idea all on their own, which is plausible, or b) their reply translates to "we cannot admit that we looked at this because of the entanglements of intellectual property law, and we're also struggling too hard financially to credit you and pay you royalties, but we'll still secretly throw this in the suggestion box along with all the other fan input we receive on a daily basis." Which is also possible.

Time will never tell which way it actually went, but in the end I just feel quietly pleased about it. In cases like yours and mine, it's nice to see that they liked our ideas enough to use them, regardless of where the idea came from.

Your unfortunate event is why I don't submit my own creations to any company without having them either copyrighted, backed by a lawyer, or both.

I'm not saying they did steal from you, but as you stated, we'll never know. I say keep the best stuff you have to and for yourself. And maybe one day you'll have the means to bring those ideas to life on better terms, or even on your own.

For now, let's just stick to the KAK tournaments, which really need to get a move on. Mick-Lucifer! Get your ass down here! *storms off*
