11 Hours of MK11 Aftermath Epic Jax Guy Friendship

Watch: 11 Hr Epic Jax Guy | 10hr Epic Sax Guy | SunStroke Project - Run Away

Why 11 hours of "Epic Jax Guy"? Some might argue the unique resonance of the saxophone is justification enough. A woodwind instrument, if played just right - with the appropriate octave, uniquely tuned to speak to the very soul. A truth unto itself, but not the inspiration behind this particular meme.

Its deepest origins are appropriately military in nature, but it wasn't the product of US Special Forces developing cybernetic enhancements. It all began one fateful day in Moldova, when a soldier on field exercise suffered heat stroke. Inspired by the experience, Anton Ragoza and Sergey Stepanov formed a band called SunStroke Project.

The group would go on to represent Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest: an annual event that invites the nations of Europe to participate in a three night competition filled with singing, spectacle, and 10-15 minutes of public voting. Competition rules dictate that song entries are roughly 3 minutes, but it only took 15 seconds for Sergey Stepanov to achieve internet immortality.

His saxually charged performance during "Run Away" was an immediate shock to the system for any one watching the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest live. White rimmed sunglasses and intense pelvic thrusting soon led a YouTube uploader to repeat the isolated section for 10 hours, dubbing him the viral "Epic Sax Guy" embraced by the world.

Retrocade Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Render
Something old, something new!

The imminent expansion of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will bring back klassic fighters and arenas as downloadable content, but one of the throwback stages is actually something brand new. The Retrocade is a slice of the 2D Klassic era projected on a contemporary stage. Take a closer look:

While the Soul Chamber and Dead Pool have been given a new design for Mortal Kombat 11; the Retrocade will literally project klassic 2D arenas onto a screen behind play. It's a meta arena, making use of retro assets to resurrect The Subway from MK3 in official render art, and The Temple in a recent Kombat Kast preview [pictured below]. Previews have also shown the Mortal Kombat II Portal stage.

The arena is similar to the Tournament Stage used to promote live events in-game, with an assortment of klassic Mortal Kombat arcade machines and paraphernalia in the periphery. Look closely the render art and you'll find a promotional standee for 2004's Mortal Kombat: Deception.

New stages will be part of a free downloadable update available to all players with MK11! There will also be no cost attached to the addition of Stage Fatalities and Friendships! Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is almost upon us! Officially released digitally on May 26th, you can pre-order the expansion for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC for a recommended $39.99. It gets you 3 new characters, 3 Skin Packs, and new story chapters!

Sheeva Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Render Art
All hail Queen Sheeva!

Sheeva is one of two klassic kombatants making a playable comeback as part of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. The Shokan Queen returns as part of a time-bending new story mode and three-character expansion. Take a closer look:

Sheeva essentially steps out of the main MK11 story mode for this look, where she appeared as a non-playable character, and important ally to Kitana, Kotal Kahn, and the alliance against Kronika. Her leather and metal armor remains consistent, as does the tartan sash worn over her royal shoulder.

Customizable gear options will also give Sheeva a war helmet seen in other promotional renders. That design incorporates the spiky horns protruding from her scalp, with a decorative helmet vaguely reminiscent of Goro's alternate attire in Armageddon [and first seen in Gamecube release of Deception].

Armageddon was also the first game to explore an armored design for the scantily clad Shokan, who iconically wore a red sling bikini in her Mortal Kombat 3 debut. Her last appearance, in the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot, remained faithful to her klassic look, making the Mortal Kombat 11 re-design an exciting step forward for the character begun in MKX comics.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is almost upon us! Officially released digitally on May 26th, you can pre-order the expansion for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC for a recommended $39.99. It gets you 3 new characters, 3 Skin Packs, and a robust 5 chapter story! Catch up with the Official Launch Trailer and find more info and discussion on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum.

Where's Scorpion? Ultimate Mortal Kombat Seek & Find Art
Over 70 characters to find!

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will bring the playable roster up to a robust 34 characters, but as die hard fans know - there are dozens more in MK's three decade long canon! They can't all appear in every game, but you can find most in the ultimate Mortal Kombat Seek & Find! Take a closer look:

NetherRealm Studios commissioned Gus Morais to create the incredible piece, which assembles almost every recognizable character in the Mortal Kombat canon! The artist specializes in this kind of Where's Waldo? style art, and is a self-confessed old school MK fan.

The developer clued fans in on Twitter, claiming there are 77 characters and 1 special guest. By our count, there might even be a few more than that! You can check it out for yourself in the image below, or by clicking one of the first two thumbnails for an up to 35MB full size image! The darkened third thumbnail will reveal solutions for all the identified characters.

Creative Director Ed Boon praised the artist, who replied to his tweet, "Thanks, @noobde! I'm a MK fan since the first edition and it was incredible working with you and NRS + Warner guys!!"

That fandom is well served, with the blending of many familiar Mortal Kombat locations and characters. Liu Kang can be seen playing an original Mortal Kombat arcade machine on the city Rooftop, while Kotal Kahn sunbathes with Jade in a scene reminiscent of his MK11 Friendship. Even long neglected characters like Kira, Kobra, and Khameleon can be found!

Announcing: Mortal Kombat 11 Pop-Up Video
Enhancing MK11's Story Mode!

We are proud to announce a new original MK Online video series, “Pop-Up Video” (the title harkens back to the VH1 series of the same name). This series will go through the entire Mortal Kombat 11 Story Mode, with pop-up messages to give additional insight, pieces of trivia, and other information that enhances the viewing of the story mode.

This video is just the first in a new features series, which we hope -- by the time we complete it -- will explore MK11’s story mode in its entirety. This shall include all three endings, as well as the expansion that’s part of the Aftermath pack.

So be sure to let us know what your thoughts are, on the message boards, on the comments page for the YouTube video itself, or on our other social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter!

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Launch Trailer
The end is here!

The end is here, but players can forge a new history with Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. DLC characters take the lead in a new story mode that will send them back in time to prevent the destruction of Kronika's Crown! See what happens when old and new interact in the Launch Trailer! Watch:

The announce trailer set up a basic plot that will see Shang Tsung leading efforts to save reality after Fire God Liu Kang destroyed Kronika's crown at the end of the standard story mode. The launch trailer flips that premise on its head though, ending with Liu Kang exiting a portal to confront the crown-wearing sorcerer!

Shang Tsung won't be the only one wearing the reality warping macguffin. Returning fighter Fujin dons the device during the trailer, which also shows the wind god holding it with ominous dialogue speaking of changes to the timeline.

Familiar scenes from the MK11 story mode will clearly be revisited, with the forces of Kitana & Liu Kang's Netherrealm rallying and Kronika commanding someone to kill each other. It looks as if the fight will come right to the Keeper of Time's door as the battle for the past and future escalates into all out war!

You can get another taste of things to come with a Story Mode preview scene featuring Nightwolf and Sheeva, or get straight to fighting with the official gameplay trailer. Dead Pool Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Render
MK11 passes the acid test!

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is set to unleash three downloadable characters and an all new story mode on players. With the new plot comes new and returning locations, which will be available free for all. Take a closer look at one of the beloved klassic arenas making a comeback: The Dead Pool!

NetherRealm Studios released the third arena render via Twitter, having already showcased Kronika's Keep and The Soul Chamber with previous preview images.

Just like The Soul Chamber; the returning Dead Pool has a completely new look for MK11. The modern Dead Pool is a dank and uninviting space cast in shadow, but still bathed in the familiar green glow of a flowing acid lake. Burnt corpses hung from chains remain a decorative standard for the space, with more elaborate architecture and flowing streams of acid running from the ceiling.

Players first sent their opponents to an acid eaten end in Mortal Kombat II and the famous stage fatality will make its return with Aftermath. The gruesome finisher appears in the Aftermath Announce Trailer, with Revenant Liu Kang demonstrating the results in an official hi-res screenshot

Occasionally another stage in the series has let fighters play with acid, but The Dead Pool inevitably returned with increasingly elaborate updates in Mortal Kombat: Deception, the 2011 reboot, and 2005 action-adventure spin-off Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. The update has most in common with 2011's update. You can see it and other klassic versions below.

RoboCop vs Terminator Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Trailers
Choose your destiny!

The fight for the future will take a new twist when Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath expands the experience with downloadable characters and plot lines. Guest fighter RoboCop will meet franchise rival Terminator, but who decides is up to you in two new gameplay trailers! Watch:

Watch: RoboCop Wins | Terminator Wins

Terminator and RoboCop set a new standard for sci-fi cinema in the 1980s, fusing futuristic robot tropes with varying degrees of tech noir, sattire, and action. Their massive popularity led to inevitable sequels in the 90s and demanded some kind of meeting.

In 1992, Dark Horse Comics finally satisfied demand by publishing RoboCop versus The Terminator: a four issue mini-series that connected OCP's RoboCop technology with the future development of SkyNet. RoboCop naturally fought to defend humanity from its dark fate, eventually taking the fight to the Nintendo and Sega consoles in a 1993 video game loosely based on the comics. MK11 slyly acknowledges these past encounters in character intros.

With RoboCop's arrival in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath the likenesses of Peter Weller and Arnold Schwarzenegger can finally do battle for cybernetic superiority. Who will win? Choose their destiny in the embedded video above by clicking the respective link to determinate a winner in two different official gameplay trailers!

RoboCop Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Render Art
The future has a silver lining!

RoboCop is the future of law enforcement and downloadable guest fighters in MK11. The iconic movie cyborg is one of three characters coming in the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath expansion. Take a closer look in official render art:

The game authentically recreates Rob Botin's original RoboCop design, and will also include the blue-hued revision seen in the 1990 sequel. NetherRealm Studios created a digital capture by scanning original actor Peter Weller, who also provides the genuine voice for RoboCop in Mortal Kombat 11. You can see he carries his trademark leg-holstered Auto 9 - a modified Beretta 93R machine pistol.

In addition to the cinematic classics; RoboCop will have dozens of customizable armor pieces as part of Mortal Kombat 11's extensive a la carte design mechanic. This will include an MK3 inspired Cyber Lin Kuei skin, as well as other alternative visions of his head gear, armor, and choice of weapon.

You can learn a little bit more about RoboCop by checking out his official character bio, or by revisiting the Aftermath Announce Trailer, Gameplay Trailer, and official screenshots!

Soul Chamber Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Render
MK3 arena gets an update!

Along with three new characters and an all-new story chapters: Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will bring new fighting arenas to the battlefield of Mortal Kombat 11 free for all! Take a closer look at one of the klassic returning concepts: The Soul Chamber!

NetherRealm Studios released the official arena render embedded above via Twitter, giving us an overview of its newest version. It can also be seen in the background of an official hi-res screenshot showing a battle between Fujin and Shang Tsung.

This time the cavernous Soul Chamber appears to be located more specifically within a cathedral, surrounded by arcane artifacts and scriptures. Like past incarnations, it's identified by the large open maw of a head-like structure filled with the swirling green energy of tortured souls.

The Soul Chamber made its first appearance in Mortal Kombat 3 [pictured below], where it seemed to be part of Shao Kahn's Outworld tower. Upercutting an opponent through the ceiling would send them to The Balcony stage. The stage later returned in Mortal Kombat Gold, Armageddon, and revamped for the 2011 reboot.

Story & Voice Director Dominic Cianciolo had praise for the story-driven arena update in a PlayStation blog: "One other benefit of a new story? Our environment team got to build a bevy of new stages. They outdid themselves with fresh takes on the Klassic Dead Pool and Soul Chamber arenas, as well as a new stage that showcases the exterior of Kronika’s Keep."

What do you think of the new Soul Chamber? Share your thoughts in the comments below and seek more news and talkback on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum! MK11: Aftermath is released digitally starting May 26th, with a disc version exclusive to the Americas slated for June. New arenas, stage fatalities, and friendships will be released free to all MK11 owners.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Friendship Trailer
More fun and a Mileena appearance!

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will renew hostilities when downloadable fighters get involved with additional story mode chapters coming later this month - but that's not all. MK will also embrace a softer side with the return of Friendships! Join the party in the official trailer:

The trailer features a rapidfire montage of highlights from various character's upcoming friendly finishers. It all unfolds to the rapturous late nineties ska sound of Smash Mouth, covering War's iconic 1975 single Why Can't We Be Friends?

Where these moves are from: fighters play a pretty song and there's always music in the air. Kollector is a one-man band, Kabal chops wood on the xylophone, Sindel warbles into a champagne glass, and Jax does his best impression of Sergey "Epic Sax Guy" Stepanov in an homage to SunStroke Project's meme-ified 2010 Eurovision performance!

Friendships have really gone to another level since their debut in Mortal Kombat II, but don't think NetherRealm Studios has forgotten where it came from. Liu Kang is bringing back disco, Johnny Cage reprises his Ninja Mime role, Scorpion got a bigger teddy bear since MK2011, and pint-sized dynamo Kidd Thunder is back too for a laser light show!

There are far too many madcap antics crammed into the 90 second trailer to recap, all offering different shades of our favourite fighters. There is one particularly noteworthy cameo, though. Mileena joins her genetic sister for some schoolyard hand clapping!

Watch the embedded trailer above and preview Kano & Noob Saibot's Friendships in their entirety by following the link! MK11: Aftermath will be available digitally from May 26th, with Friendships, Stage Fatalities, and new Arenas all coming in a free update for anyone with MK11!

RoboCop Has Lin Kuei Skin in Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath
The future of Lin Kuei assassins.

Robocop is Omni Consumer Product's future of law enforcement, built around the legally dead remains of injured police officer: Alex Murphy. What if somebody else got their hands on the hi-tech chassis? Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will go there with a Cyber Lin Kuei skin. Take a closer look:

Lead Character Artist Brendan George revealed the alternate skin in a PlayStation Blog entry. He explains NetherRealm's unique twist is specifically inspired by the original MK3 Lin Kuei Cyber Assassins. This is reflected in render images released to Twitter, coloured yellow, red, purple, and even Sub-Zero blue.

George also assures authenticity for the Robocop design, which will appear grey, as in the original film, and with the blue hue seen in its 1990 sequel. NetherRealm Studios were also able to capture RoboCop's voice and likeness with an in-studio scanning of actor Peter Weller.

Being able to scan and record Peter Weller for the RoboCop model, as well as talk to him about the role, was invaluable. He gave me some great insight into what it was like playing the character, which allowed us to capture the essence of RoboCop. As a bonus, he gave me a crash course in Italian Renaissance art while he was in the studio being scanned. You may not know this but Dr. Weller has a Ph.D. in Italian Renaissance Art History and Roman History.

Sektor and Cyrax each make appearances throughout the Mortal Kombat 11 story, but have yet to materialize as fully realized playable fighters. They were last seen in the composite form of Triborg, who was released as part of Mortal Kombat X's Kombat Pack 2.

You can see more of Robocop and his in-game arsenal in the just released Aftermath Gameplay Trailer, or check out the original reveal from the Announce Trailer. Fujin Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Render Art
The wind of change!

Fujin is one of the exciting klassic characters returning to the playable roster for new downloadable story chapters in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. The long awaited return brings a brand new style for the wind god, which can be seen in official render artwork. Take a look:

Fujin is outfitted with the many layers and textures that we've come to expect from modern Mortal Kombat designs. This particular look blends white, grey, and muted blue highlights with a balance of varying earth tones. Cloud patterns on his shoulders and tunic reflect traditional depictions of Asiatic storm gods, with glowing blue tattoos along his arms promising the power of a mighty gale!

The same design can be seen in Aftermath character promotion & screenshots, but differs from the teal & maroon attire seen in the announce trailer and story mode preview scene. That skin recalls Fujin's past playable appearances in Mortal Kombat 4 and Armageddon. Players will be able to customize his appearance once released.

New arena is a keeper!

This month's massive Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath update won't just expand the participants in kombat - but also the parameters! New arenas will be released freely to everyone, including the chaotic landscape of Kronika's Keep. Take a look:

NetherRealm Studios released a slender render image previewing the empty landscape of the Kronika's Keep stage. It, and the revamped Soul Chamber, could also be seen in the backgrounds of official hi-res screenshots.

Story & Voice Director Dominic Cianciolo has also teased a fourth arena known as the RetroKade, which will combine nostalgic references from past locations in the series.

One other benefit of a new story? Our environment team got to build a bevy of new stages. They outdid themselves with fresh takes on the Klassic Dead Pool and Soul Chamber arenas, as well as a new stage that showcases the exterior of Kronika’s Keep. And then there’s our fourth new stage – the RetroKade. The Retrokade is a love letter to the fans who’ve been with us since the earliest days of Mortal Kombat. It gleefully mashes up old school game stages with our more modern presentation. It’s like someone opened up a portal to NostalgiaRealm!

Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Mini-Bios Update
Downloadable characters get profiled.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath brings three new playable characters into the roster with the addition of Fujin, Sheeva and guest fighter Robocop. The official website has updated with mini-bios for the trio, revealing a little bit more of what drives them. Read on for more:

Fujin (Security)
The God of Wind, Fujin serves the Elder Gods alongside his brother, Raiden, as Protectors of Earthrealm. Affable and lighthearted, he’s adept at inspiring peoples’ innate capacity for goodness and heroism to conquer forces of hatred and tyranny. Fujin believes Earthrealm’s best days are still to come, and he fights to ensure that bright future.

Sheeva (Equality)
The male Shokan scoffed when Sheeva entered their contest to choose the Shokan’s next leader. But Sheeva proved herself more than their equal. After a resounding victory, she was crowned the first Queen of the Shokan. As Queen, Sheeva now leads her people in the fight to attain their rightful place, as partners in Outworld’s rule.

Robocop
Alex Murphy was a dutiful police officer who was brutally executed by a local gang. Brought back to life through OCP technology, Murphy was transformed into RoboCop, a highly advanced cybernetic police officer designed to uphold the law and protect the innocent. Now entering the Mortal Kombat universe, RoboCop has received a few upgrades and is ready to serve the public by apprehending any Kombatants that stand in his way.

The bios mostly revisit established qualities and circumstances for the characters concerned. The detail of most note is that Raiden is described as Fujin's "brother".

Familial connections between gods have been established before, with Titan boss Kronika introduced as the mother of elder gods Cetrion and Shinnok. More controversially, Raiden and Shao Kahn were depicted as siblings on the big screen, in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and again in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. It's unclear if the brotherhood between Earthrealm's protector gods should be seen as literal, or in the traditional sense.

Character bios were released gradually to mortalkombat.com in the build-up to Mortal Kombat 11. You can find previous updates archived with characters that include Shao Kahn and Geras, Jax and Noob Saibot, and Cetrion and Frost. Bios for Kombat Pack characters can be found below.

Nightwolf (Restoration)
Every generation, the Great Spirit chooses a worthy warrior to become Nightwolf: the Matoka’s champion and protector. Grey Cloud proved worthy when he laid down his life to prevent the Black Dragon from plundering what remained of his tribe’s sacred artifacts. As Nightwolf, Grey Cloud possesses extraordinary magic granted by the Great Spirit. He uses it not only to fight for the Matoka’s future, but also to defend all of Earthrealm.

Sindel (Privilege)
The former Queen of Edenia will stop at nothing to keep her place. When threatened with the loss of her throne when Shao Kahn conquered her realm, Sindel betrayed her husband, and her people, to keep her privileged position. Now Shao Kahn’s wife and Queen of Outworld, she enjoys power and wealth beyond most people’s imagination. Good luck to anyone who tries to take it from her.

Terminator (Termination)
The Terminator T-800 from “Terminator: Dark Fate” is a cyborg assassin, sent back in time from a post-apocalyptic future. He is nearly indestructible and possesses superior technology, fighting skills and artificial intelligence making him the ultimate killing machine.

The Joker (Chaos)
Unpredictable, violent and incredibly dangerous, The Joker is chaos personified. He’s killed a Robin, crippled Batgirl and tortured and murdered countless people throughout the DC universe. And now, he’s the latest Kombatant to join in Mortal Kombat.

Spawn (Atonement)
Al Simmons, once the U.S. government’s greatest soldier and most effective assassin, was mercilessly executed by his own men. Resurrected from the ashes of his own grave in a flawed agreement with the powers of darkness, Simmons is reborn as a creature from the depths of Hell. A Hellspawn. Now he is thrust into the world of Mortal Kombat, where he will fight for supremacy against all Kombatants.

PlayStation Brasil Teases New Mortal Kombat 11 Story
The saga continues!

Mortal Kombat 11 presented a blockbuster epic with its time-bending story mode, but the tale may not be over yet. PlayStation Brasil has dropped an unexpected teaser for a Story Mode DLC announcement coming tomorrow. Full story and video:

Raiden and the god powered Liu Kang can be seen standing at Kronika's reality warping hourglass in a teaser clip first posted to Twitter. Update: An English language version was subsequently posted to Twitter by Ed Boon with the hashtag #MoreKombat. A high quality version can also be watched on YouTube [embedded above].

The scene may seem familiar to the end of MK11's story mode -- until a disembodied voice challenging Liu Kang signals the arrival of Shang Tsung and two silhouetted warriors walking through a portal! The sorcerer, voiced by Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa in English, suggests Liu Kang may be on the verge of dooming us all.

Posted in Portuguese, the tweet and video clip teases the next phase of the story and a complete reveal for May 6th. The tagline translates as: "The epic saga continues. Don't miss the revelation May 6."
