Mortal Kombat 11: The MKO Review!
Read on for our thoughts on NetherRealm's latest title!

Sit back, strap in, and enjoy the ride. That's the best advice I can give you going forward. This installment on the longstanding Mortal Kombat series is above and beyond the best one to date, and we'll go into detail as to why you should buy it. (Seriously, if you haven't gotten a copy, then stop what you're doing, right now, and go pick this game up!)

Mortal Kombat 11 picks up where Mortal Kombat X left off in the story mode, and it's a non-stop rock 'em, sock 'em movie grade story mode. I don't want to spoil anything for you if you haven't seen it or played it yet, but there are several times you will laugh, you will freak out, and enjoy all the delicious nostalgia that NetherRealm Studios have served up for all of us. You'll see some familiar faces, some shocking surprises, and all your fan favorites in the story. (Well... almost all the fan favorites!) At the conclusion of the story, I was left excited for the future of this franchise, and very satisfied with its conclusion. Definitely meaty, lengthy and hard to put down, I started my time with story mode at 10 PM and didn't stop until I had reached its conclusion at 3:45 AM. That's how addicting the story mode was. From the facial animation team, to the story animations, to the delivery of the lines by the voice actors, every single character is easily believable. You'll certainly find that you care for these characters, and their fates. It's definitely a thrill ride worth taking. As a fan of this franchise and a huge fan of their story and lore, I was not disappointed.

The graphics in this game are hands down the best in the series to date. The facial animations, the realistic look of the characters clothing, and the intense atmospheres all put you right into the game. Not to mention the huge amount of skins and costumes, plus the customizations (including the gear) allow for a seemingly infinite number of character designs! This is an easy score of a 10/10 as NetherRealm Studios yet again sets the bar in just how beautiful a fighting game can be.

The sound and audio fidelity in this game are something to be heard to be believed. I remember talking to some of The Netherkast crew at the reveal in Los Angeles, and having the conversation of how the punches and kicks look and feel heavier due to the audio. It's just amazing how sound can really make a game come to life, and NetherRealm Studio's audio team has outdone themselves on this game. Every hit, "Krushing Blow", and "Fatal Blow" will make you wince, the bone tingling audio definitely made everything feel heavier, and the hits look harder. An easy 10/10 for the sound effects. The musical score is also something wonderful that really strikes the nostalgia feeling I haven't felt since the early days of Mortal Kombat. Will Roget, the composer for this game, absolutely knocked this one out of the park with an amazing score that sets an amazing new standard in video games. All in all, you may have an awesome spotify playlist to jam to when you play this game, which is great, but the musical score in this game is so darned good, you may just be fine without your own playlist going.

Gameplay in this game is much more methodical than any in the past series. This game feels like UMK3, MK 2, and MKX had a child. It's a really great combination of all of those games and truly incorporates the best of the best from each. With a slower pace, it's much more of a cat-and-mouse game between players. Many times I was asking myself, "Should I go in here?", "Can I get away with this mixup?", "I can block... but how can I fake this guy out to get on the inside and force him into a corner combo?" You'll easily be able to take your time with this, and you'll find yourself asking those same questions out loud as you try to dominate in King of the Hill, Ranked Matches, and many of the other online game modes. It's a fantastic overall experience. The mechanics are much tighter, as you'll have to really be on top of what you're doing or executing, or else you'll be dropping combos. This is the best feeling competitive Mortal Kombat to date, and from all of us, this gets another 10/10.

Other honorable mentions in this installment is the amazing new Krypt and Towers of Time. As it stands, there have been a few issues with the Towers of Time being a bit too "difficult", however, Ed Boon and Tyler Lansdown confirmed updates would be coming very very soon to rectify the Towers of Time difficulty and the rewards given to make a much more flowing economy in the game. And speaking of the economy... you won't be done with the Krypt any time soon. The Krypt in this game is HUGE. It's a wonderful piece of the game that is really a love letter to die hard fans like myself and ]{0MBAT. Not only is the Krypt packed full of awesome things to unlock from gear to character art, it's also packed with a TON of lore from the games. You can really tell the developers at NetherRealm Studios made it a point to cater to the die hard fans, and with all the spoils and things you will find in there, from references to the films, to shocking revelations about characters fates, you'll absolutely love this mode. It's really a great part of the game, and it's so fun to see how the Krypt has evolved over the years. This is easily the best one in the series to date, as well as the largest. Fans won't be disappointed. A lovely 10/10.

So what are you waiting for? Go grab yourself a copy, because I'm proud to say, So what are you waiting for? Go grab yourself a copy, because I'm proud to say, in myself and tabmok99's eyes, this game is the first in awhile to get a solid PERFECT SCORE from us.

Absolutely a wonderful game, and the new standard for the Mortal Kombat series. As diehard fans, we're very particular about Mortal Kombat, and I can proudly say they have really made the absolute best Mortal Kombat game in the series to date.

Ed Boon Promises Fix for Mortal Kombat 11 Towers & Rewards
Difficulty balance & rewards koming!

With Mortal Kombat 11 now officially available in wide release, many fans have been finding extreme difficulty in the Towers of Time mode, as well as the in-game economy. This hasn't gone unnoticed, and Creative Director Ed Boon wants everybody to know a hotfix is on its way!

Two tweets roughly ten hours apart sent the message out for all corners of the world to see. A hotfix is coming to correct and balance Towers of Time and improve rewards for playing. Many fans have complained of extreme difficulty even on medium or easy levels. This has been attributed to a bug.

Mortal Kombat 11 PC Mod Makes Sektor, Cyrax & Kronika Playable
Not so non-playable!

As glimpsed in the New Era Launch Trailer, cyber-assassins Sektor and Cyrax have made an unexpected return in Mortal Kombat 11. They appear as non-playable opponents during Story Mode, but one modder has made it his mission to make the playable. Check it out:

The Game Modding Channel hosts gameplay footage embedded above, which maps Sektor and Cyrax to Cassie Cage on the character select screen. The footage also shows final boss Kronika in a playable state. All three fighters appear to have full access to their expected special moves!

Hope springs eternal that Mortal Kombat 11 and its expansive Krypt will facilitate the klassic experience of 'secret unlockable characters' of yore, but no one has turned up any method for legitimately unlocking Sektor or Cyrax at this early stage. That fact will make PC modding all the more exciting.

We couldn't see any freely available instructions for acquiring the mods, but you can find more information on the video post. Got mods of your own to share? Be sure to post your hacks to the Mortal Kombat 11 forum or get deeper into modding and original material on the Fan Kreations forum!

Data-Mining Reveals Possible Mortal Kombat 11 DLC
Does game code give up DLC secrets?

Mortal Kombat 11 is now officially available, but that doesn't mean its given up all of its secrets! So far Shang Tsung is the only one of six characters announced for the upcoming Kombat Pack. The downloadable content is sold separately and as part of premium editions, but data mined from the game's code may have illuminated what else is coming down the pike. Warning! This report may contain spoilers:

A post to Reddit highlights code extracted from the Nintendo Switch port of Mortal Kombat 11, which was released to some regions slightly early. It shows code strings directing to DLC content paths named for some very familiar characters from Mortal Kombat, as well as broad pop culture.

Image posted by PikachuIzGod shows extracted file paths.

The code's existence has been verified by several sources and is available to anyone with the inclination to find it. It appears to suggest pending appearances by: Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Sindel, Fujin, Sheeva, comic book anti-hero Spawn, DC Comics's The Joker, cinema's time travelling Terminator, and Ash, probably from the Evil Dead franchise, given MK's proclivity for prominent film brands.

Creator Todd McFarlane let slip last December that he expects Spawn to make an appearance, having discussed open deals in the past. Todd McFarlane Productions will also be releasing MK11 action figures some time next year.

In 2015, it was Ed Boon who revealed that The Terminator (presumably T-800) had been considered for Mortal Kombat X. The movie franchise welcomes Linda Hamilton back to the screen as celebrated iconic lead Sarah Connor when Terminator: Dark Fate is released to cinemas in October. Warner Brothers will also release The Joker that same month, spotlight Joaquin Phoenix as a new take on DC's clown prince of crime. The film's hard-edge may lend itself to the lethality shied away from when Joker has appeared in the Injustice and Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe games.

Sheeva leads the Shokan and Tarkatan in the Mortal Kombat 11 Launch Trailer.

If the implications of the data play out, Sheeva will graduate from her MK11 Story Mode appearance to a fully playable model. Likewise, Mortal Kombat X revenants Sindel and Nightwolf will return, with long requested wind god Fujin making his first playable appearance since 2006's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon! No word on other non-playable fighters like Sektor and Cyrax. Hope springs eternal that Mortal Kombat 11 will include these characters as hidden unlockables.

We only officially know of six characters coming to Kombat Pack downloads, but with DLC increasing with each NetherRealm Studios release, future downloads aren't hard to imagine. Will we see these characters and more in the coming year? Join the speculation on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

4 New Mortal Kombat 11 Mini-Bios Released
... And then there was four!

Four more mini-bios have been released to the official Mortal Kombat 11 website, bringing the basic backstory of playable characters to completion. The remaining quartet have been added to a menu begun with sixteen offerings and five previous additions. Read on for more:

Cetrion, Frost, Kollector, and Kitana round out the list, which includes pre-order download incentive Shao Kahn. The four slots still unaccounted for may suggest the upcoming Kombat Pack will reserve two spots for guest fighters, with Shang Tsung and three more to be revealed.

There aren't many great revelations to be gleaned from this final crop of main roster mini-bios. Cetrion's status as an Elder God is given some greater context, revealing her as the one who banished Shinnok to the Netherrealm when he waged war on the gods. Frost's personal tale of ruthless ambition continues, expanding upon her rebellion from the Mortal Kombat X story mode.

Cetrion (Balanced)
Elder Goddess of Virtue, Guardian of Life. When Shinnok threatened to conquer the Elder Gods, Cetrion cast him into the Netherrealm. Her blessings answer the prayers of warriors battling against darkness. But at times, the heroic virtues she upholds are at odds with her quest for universal balance.

Frost (Defiance)
Grandmaster Sub-Zero’s most dangerous apprentice. When Sub-Zero made historic peace with his clan’s enemy, Scorpion, defiant Frost challenged her Grandmaster as unfit to lead. Sub-Zero defeated and banished Frost. For years, she sought the power to destroy him. Now she has it.

Kollector (Rank)
Tribute collector for the Outworld Empire. Born into poverty, the Kollector seized his imperial collections duty with a zeal that impressed Shao Kahn. He stole riches from Outworld’s people, rewarding himself with wealth and status in turn. He’ll kill anyone to keep it.

Kitana (Identity)
10,000-year-old assassin and Princess of Outworld. Shao Kahn married Kitana’s mother and raised Kitana as his loyal heir, concealing the truth that he murdered her father to conquer Edenia. Now that this truth is out, Kitana is on a quest to avenge her father’s name.

MK11 is officially available now! Catch up with reveal trailers for Cetrion, Frost, Kollector and Kitana and join the discussion & speculation on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

Mortal Kombat 11 Frost Reveal Trailer
Sub-Zero now plain zero!

The final character revealed for Mortal Kombat 11 awaits you as an unlockable fighter in story mode. Frost has turned on Grandmaster Sub-Zero, enhancing herself with extreme cybernetic upgrades as she fights to claim the Lin Kuei! Watch the trailer:

The reactivated Lin Kuei cyber factory provides a fitting backdrop for battle, with Frost entering as assembled parts. Her radical robotic transformation is highlighted by an intro that connects a wired head with its waiting body. Master-turned-rival Sub-Zero then faces the chilling effects of Frost's enhanced kori methods! She boxes him in with freeze boundaries, and unleashes a twirling polar vortex with arms and ice blades extended! She has her own take on blast chilling and ice weapons, but reveals the true extent of her power with a cinematic Krushing Blow that encrusts the arena with jagged ice! In one of the best character-driven fatalities we've seen, she isolates her opponents brain stem with ice, sending it on a drone to be encased in the latest Lin Kuei cyber-body!

Take a closer look at Frost's cyber-enhanced design in official character art and catch the New Era Launch Trailer for a glimpse of Sektor & Cyrax! MK11 is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC! Share your verdict by joining the discussion on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

Frost & Kitana Mortal Kombat 11 Character Renders
Cold blooded killers in blue!

Players diving into Mortal Kombat 11 and its Story Mode chapters will quickly discover the game contains an unlockable fighter. Frost was revealed during the final pre-release developer stream and you can take a closer look at her cold new design in official art:

Frost has undergone some significant changes since her cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat X! The tempestuous young cryomancer has given herself to the cold metal of Lin Kuei automation, but her humanity is more outwardly evident than the iconic cyber-assassins encased in steel. A new blue, white, and gold design balances her allegiance to Kronika with ambitions to control the Lin Kuei. A metallic, light-up mask goes beyond what we've seen of other Lin Kuei warriors, suggesting her robotic transformation. Yet once frozen blue hair now appears more natural in spite of an unlikely hue.

We've seen Kitana display her new style in the promotional TV spot and gameplay trailer, but in all the excitement we overlooked her official character render!

Royal blue keeps the Edenian princess distinct from Frost, even as her status as a fighter pulled from of the past takes her design back to basics. The refinement of early era costuming continues here, maintaining loose reference to MK3, while striving to create a more complete look than a basic bathing suit. Light armor on the shoulders and wrists give the design some character, even as the black & blue paneled bodysuit flirts with being slightly generic. Leather texturing and a bodice has been common for female fighters in MK11, explained in part by their affiliations with Shao Kahn. We'd miss the ornate decoration and fabrics of her MKX design, even if it never made sense to her revenant status. Fortunately, the game includes customization options that should offer plenty of alternatives for fans who like their Kitana a little more flowing, and unique.

You can official start exploring MK11 gear and unlock optons right now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC! Revisit official character renders released for Sub-Zero, Skarlet, and Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Revenant Jade, Kotal Kahn, D'Vorah and Shang Tsung. Mortal Kombat 11 Officially Released Today!
It has begun! MK11 goes live!

It's been roughly five months since Mortal Kombat 11 was announced with a trailer during The Game Awards 2018. The wait is finally over as today marks the official release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC! It has begun!

Announce Trailer | Gameplay Trailer | Story Trailer | TV Spot | Launch Trailer

The journey to Mortal Kombat 11 was notably shorter than previous promotional cycles and packed plenty of info into a short space of time. With the inaugural trailer announcement came our first look at exciting new designs for Raiden and Scorpion, as well as our first glimpse of Kronika, and a second retro-inspired Scorpion. Those brief glimpses were enough to immediately tell us the past wouldn't be far behind in MK11 -- and customization was on the agenda!

There still hasn't been an official announcement for Kombat Pack downloadable content, but with a time bending plotline came the early reveal of a returning Shao Kahn, who was featured in promotional artwork for the pre-order incentive, and a continual presence in trailer stingers. Kahn stands alone from the six characters who'll be part of the first Kombat Pack, including Shang Tsung, whose rumored likeness of Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was confirmed with a character art reveal in March! We now know he'll also host and narrate The Krypt, which takes players into the sprawling labyrinth of Shang Tsung's island!

Scorpion was alone on slightly non-descript box art while Sub-Zero was taking a well earned break from being eviscerated in announce trailers. He and Liu Kang were retracted from an apparently unauthorized Best Buy online listing, but it didn't take long for Sub-Zero to get into the act, featured with five other characters in the gameplay reveal trailer! That's to say nothing of the polar vortex that battered Chicago at the end of January, and post-poned the first Kombat Kast!

Fortunately, Warner Bros and NetherRealm Studios had gone big with The Reveal live event! MK Online was invited to both Los Angeles and London to interview the developers and go hands-on with the world-first first demo. The Reveal further introduced newcomer Geras, and celebrity voice actress Ronda Rousey, who took her role to the ring the following month at WWE: Elimination Chamber! Even with all of that, the biggest surprise managed to be Skarlet, whose radical new design led an overwhelming 49.5% of MK Online users to deem her the breakout MVP! She beat out a fondly returning Baraka with only 23.4%!

It proved to be a difficult task containing MK11's hotly anticipated information in the months after The Reveal. Scorpion and Raiden led a second-front to the portable domain as the first MK11 fighters confirmed for a newly rebranded Mortal Kombat Mobile. Around that same time, PC developers allowed achievement data to leak to the public, spoiling several characters. More than any installment before it, this game was plagued with deliberate leaks from testers and those tangentially involved with development. Even so, details of the first Nintendo port in 13 years proved notoriously scarce.

Official sources kept fans well informed and appeased, supplying MK Online with a plethora of authorized gameplay trailer reveals for: Sonya Blade, Geras, Kabal, Jade, Johnny Cage, Cassie Cage & Kano, Kotal Kahn & Jacqui Briggs, Noob Saibot, Shaolin Monks & Jax, Kitana & D'Vorah, Shao Kahn, and new characters Cetrion and Kollector! The midnight release of Johnny Cage's reveal trailer even provided a global trending topic!

Developer Kombat Kasts went deeper into detailing specific updated mechanics, while Mortal Kombat 11 was announced for the lineup for this year's Evo World Championship. NetherRealm and Warner Bros will continue to support their dedicated eSports fanbase, including Evo in the circuit for their Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition.

Play time with the game was an increased focus for MK11 pre-release. Players responded positively to early opportunities offered by the Online Stress Test and Closed Beta pre-order incentive. At last, everyone will be able to play now that the wait is finally over! MK Online looks forward to playing with the kommunity when Fatal Friday live streams begin April 26th!

Mortal Kombat Online thanks everyone for sharing the experience with us so far! Stay tuned as we anticipate new details for downloadable content extras and more! Tell us all about your experiences with the game by joining the discussion on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum! Let Mortal Kombat begin!

Mortal Kombat 11 Nintendo Switch Gameplay Trailer
The fate of the future in the palm of your hand!

MK returns to Nintendo for the first time in over a decade when Mortal Kombat 11 arrives for Nintendo Switch - next week! Get a long awaited taste of kombat on the go in the official Nintendo Switch Gameplay reveal trailer!

The trailer puts Shiver Entertainment's MK11 port inside the confines of the portable Switch JoyCon screen, which IGN described positively in their hands-on preview at PAX East. Ed Boon told Gameinformer the main game will run at 60fps, setting expectations high for the unique release.

Along with the approximate gameplay preview, the trailer also shows us more of the hotly anticipated Story Mode! Kronika dons a crown in the mysterious engine room of time, Kitana courts an alliance with Baraka and the Tarkatans, and Kano comes face-to-face with his earlier self. [Look closely and you'll also spot what looks to be Sektor on a table!] Perhaps the most revealing moment: the younger, time-displaced Johnny Cage is grazed by a bullet -- only for the elder Johnny to receive a scar! This small character beat could tell us a lot about the rules of MK11's time travel!

The highly anticipated sequel will officially arrive on all platforms next Tuesday, April 23rd! Prepare yourself by watching the Raiden & Shinnok Prologue and Story Mode trailer. Then join all the discussion on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

Shao Kahn Returns in Mortal Kombat 11 Gameplay Trailer
You're next and you suck!

Shao Kahn returns to the koliseum in Mortal Kombat 11! Participating pre-orders will receive early access to the legendary boss turned playable fighter. After months of teasing, we can finally see The Emperor back in action in the latest gameplay trailer! Watch:

In the transition to becoming playable, Shao Kahn has become a more mobile fighter than the days of the arcade. His trademark war hammer and spear are wielded deftly in flowing combinations of hard hits, impaling stabs, and ragdolling hammer vaults. The Science of Mortal Kombat Ep. 5: Uppercut Krushing Blow
Fw'poosh! Toasty!

The uppercut has remained one of the most satisfying basic attacks Mortal Kombat has had to offer. Its chunky arcade logic has been a go-to for free hits, launchers, and even time efficient finishing moves -- but does it work in real life? The latest episode of The Science of Mortal Kombat is here to answer that question! Watch:

Physics boss Sir Isaac Newton seems to have taken umbrage with the simple joy of uppercutting an opponent. Working to navigate his second law is Nerdist's Because Science team, aided briefly by professional wrestler turned UFC fighter, CM Punk, who has about as much luck hitting a knock-out as you might expect. Enter a pneumatic robo-fist to produce the necessary force.

You can catch up with previous episodes examining: Sub-Zero's head shatter, Skarlet's blood spike, Sub-Zero's ice axe, and Scorpion's spear. Rest assured, these moves and more will be guaranteed 100% possible when Mortal Kombat 11 arrives for consoles and PC - next week!

Cinemassacre Revisits The Journey Begins Animated Feature
Mortal Kombat's dubious first entry into animation.

In the mid-nineties there was nothing more spectacular in film than state of the art computer generated digital effects. As Paul Anderson's Mortal Kombat was building anticipation with theatrical trailers, Threshold Entertainment decided to assault the home market with a blend of tradition 2D and 3D rendered animation. Cinemassacre revisited this oddity of its time in the latest Rental Review. Check it out:

Chances are if you saw Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins around the time of its 1995 release, you'll relate to the pangs of disappointment discussed by the Cinemassacre crew.

Even at the time, clunky 3D animation failed to impress once the videotape (or laser disc) was out of the box. Stiff, slow-moving fight scenes were a far cry from similar animation of the era, outpaced by the likes of TV's ReBoot, or the big budget Toy Story. Even the crude sequences of Dire Strait's 1985 Money For Nothing music video weren't far behind. If the traditional 2D animation was supposed to pick up the slack, primitive digital coloring and budget animation techniques let it down almost as much as the digital flashbacks.

Fortunately, Threshold would create a much more satisfying entry into broadcast animation around a year and a half later with Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm. The kid-friendly Saturday morning cartoon had more in common with the plot of the 1995 movie. So of course it's The Journey Begins that was brought back for a wide release, included with the 2011 blu-ray release.

As much as the direct-to-video release might seem underwhelming -- it wasn't all bad. The Journey Begins borrowed much more faithfully from video games than the movie, adapting designs right out of the arcades. There were versions of fabled backstory and battles, like Sub-Zero vs Scorpion, and glimpses of the legendary figures from the past, such as Great Kung Lao and King Gorbak! For fans of Mortal Kombat's engrossing characters and storyline, the only other way to see these moments realize was in collectible tie-in comic books.

Take another trip to the past with Cinemassacre's Annihilation Rental Review and look back at Mortal Monday. Discuss more movies and animation with us on the Media & Merchandise.

Cancelled Mortal Kombat Remastered Screenshots Emerge
Another MKHD remake becomes lost kontent.

It seems the saga of an HD remaster of the original Mortal Kombat arcade trilogy is an on-going one. New concept art has emerged from the latest in a string of aborted attempts at a revival, revealing interesting features from Mortal Kombat Kollection Online. Read on:

Exact details from the apparently cancelled Mortal Kombat Remastered project are unknown, but Concept Artist Danny Huynh released images to his ArtStation account showing designs for menus, modes, and the iconic special attacks used by Scorpion and Sub-Zero in the original game. Click the thumbnails below to take a closer look:

DSO Gaming reports this incarnation of an HD remake was being developed by Blind Squirrel Games, but has since been cancelled. This is apparently separate to a previously cancelled version initiated by developers of the fan-made Mortal Kombat HD Kommunity Edition, who flirted with an official released dubbed Mortal Kombat Returns with support of Ed Boon, but were overlooked in favour of a more experienced development team.

Huynh has since removed the concept screenshots from his page, but the DSOG report outlines an intent to create new ways to play the original trilogy of games, including some version of The Krypt -- seen in releases since 2002's Deadly Alliance and returning in this April's Mortal Kombat 11 -- as well as online modes, and other features. Rumors from previous attempts have described the ability to pit versions of characters from different releases against one another.

The only character pictured in mock menus is Scorpion, seen in render art taken from Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. This is more than likely a mere place holder. We know Warner Brothers has newly photographed live-action sprites somewhere in their archives. In 2014, MK Online previously reported on images from the HD photoshoot. These may or may not be still in consideration for use.

The lure of an HD remix of klassic arcade installments has long tempted nostalgic fans, but in a recent interview with Gameinformer, co-creator and NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon said he isn't convinced the novelty wouldn't sustain interest for much more than a week or two. With new entries like Mortal Kombat 11 once again revisiting MK's past, it's a topic that's sure to continue to tempt fans, even as it draws them to a more promising present.

Kitana & D'Vorah Mortal Kombat 11 Reveal Trailer
You dirty, bug. You killed my father!

Kitana has a vendetta to pursue in the latest Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay reveal trailer! D'Vorah joins the Princess in battle, revealing some of her deadly new tricks, and revelations about a hidden past. Watch it right here:

Jumping out of the Mortal Kombat 11 TV Spot, Kitana shows off a familiar style of gameplay heavy with razor-edged fan attacks. She's slicing, stabbing, and swatting her way to victory -- but D'Vorah isn't so easily beaten! As recently profiled, she's evolved new tricks, including the ability to spawn a creepy giant wasp from the husk of her defeated body. The last ditch move joins an arsenal of spider-like webbing and bug bombs sure to cause fighters plenty of trouble!

The trailer features updated designs for both fighters. D'Vorah is seen fighting in her hooded form, a slightly updated version of how she was mostly seen in Mortal Kombat X, rather than the more monstrous design revealed in February. The real revelation that will stir controversy among fans isn't her design, but rather the claim she killed Kitana's father, Edenia's King Jerrod. This supplants Shao Kahn as the conquering Emperor who drove Queen Sindel to suicide when he merged Edenia with Outworld.

Kitana's status as royalty plays out in a new fight intro as she's carried by four men to the battlefield on her throne. This Kitana bares an updated full bodysuit variant of her traditional blue garb. No doubt this will also apply to her corrupted future self, who claimed dominion over the Netherrealm with Liu Kang at her side.

Will you worship Kitana when MK11 arrives for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on the official date of April 23rd? Join the discussion about everything we learned from the trailer on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum! Watch more in the fully rendered Nintendo Switch TV Spot!

Scuttlebutt also suggests this may be the long awaited unveiling of D'Vorah! Little detail has been offered since her grotesque reveal in early February. Cetrion Mortal Kombat 11 Character Render
The Elder Goddess embodies life.

The threat posed by Kronika will at last provoke the Elder Gods to involve themselves with mortal affairs! Mortal Kombat 11 introduces Cetrion - an Elder Goddess of life intent on opposing the keeper of time. Take a closer look at her unique design in official character art:

Cetrion's connection to nature's fundamental elements are reflected in her gameplay and appearance. While her special moves feature heavy use of earth, wind, water, and fire, her attire emphasizes green vegetation. In the featured render art, even her hair looks like its made of leaves or kelp. It all suggests a benevolent force fighting on the side of life -- but nature has a destructive side and this Elder God's eyes glows green.

Catch up with other new characters coming to MK11 in the Story Mode Trailer, as well as Geras render art and reveal trailer, and Kollector render art and reveal trailer!

MK11 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in less than a fortnight -- April 23rd! Jump aboard the hype train and join the discussion on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum as the kountdown nears its end!

D'Vorah Evolves Playstyle in Mortal Kombat 11
Gameinformer previews weird new powers!

Way back in February; D'Vorah was one of the earliest character reveals for Mortal Kombat 11. With no further gameplan reveal in the weeks and months following, questions have been raised about the elusive bug queen. Some of those can at last be answered thanks to Gameinformer:

Sticking to Mortal Kombat 11’s overall direction of not giving characters too many strong low and overhead options, D’Vorah has a good low combo-starter, but no great overhead. She can lean into close-range aggression, however, thanks to an equippable overhead spinning move she can use in the air. “If you're playing a match where you just want to get in, do your mixups, you could use that overhead move," Brownback says. You could also combine a few of her moves to give her decent mix-up options; you could equip the low-hitting crawling bug attack, then use it to get in close and attack with the airborne spin move.

The inadvertent release of achievement data got us very curious with an obliquely specific trophy listing: "TROPHY_ID_DEFEAT_OPPONENT_WHILE_DVORAH_BUG." Any theories about a sub-boss or strange new variant based on her new design can be put to rest. A Gameinformer preview feature has cast the spotlight to radically revamped customization options that will expand the arsenal of D'Vorah in weird and wonderful ways!

The article describes increased emphasis on her unique insectoid powers. Extended "ovipositors" will now be a permanent feature of her arsenal and presentation, with options to kit wings for aerial bug bomb attacks. If you're squeamish about being bathed with insects, D'Vorah could quickly become your kryptonite! She can now affix multiple insects to your fighter, waiting to detonate them at the time of her choosing. She can also summon and spawn multiple creepy crawlies - even bringing them out of the ground beneath her opponent!

The most bizarre and intriguing new trait comes at a sacrifice of two customizable move slots. Go with this, and you'll be able to spawn a baby upon defeat -- extending the battle with the unique moveset of your insect offspring! Gameinformer compares it to the resurrection mechanic used by Jason Voorhees in MKX, but we can't help but remember D'Vorah's grotesque MKX arcade ending. We can't wait to see it in action!

Excited about the next evolution for D'Vorah? Infest yourself with the few glimpses we've seen by checking out the Story Mode Trailer and official mini-bio! Join the hive to share your thoughts on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

Scorpion & Kitana Battle in Mortal Kombat 11 Nintendo Trailer
This Princess is in the castle and kicking ass!

You saw them do battle in the Mortal Kombat 11 TV Spot. Now watch Scorpion and Kitana continue their struggle with the briefest glimpse at in-game intros in a spot for Nintendo Switch!

The TV Spot is the brainchild of Director Joe Sill and Plastic Wax, whose live-action players carry over into the Switch trailer, doing battle head-to-head on the console's portable Joy-Con configuration. Stick with the action long enough and you'll catch a brief glimpse of Kitana's in-game intro on the pad screen.

Although we'd seen Kitana in the Old Skool and Story Mode trailers, the TV Spot has been billed as the official confirmation of her playable roster return. A full gameplay spotlight is coming in the next developer stream, this week.

MK11 is expected to ship for Nintendo Switch on April 23rd: the same day as PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC! IGN had positive things to say about the first playable build. Will you make the switch to the Shiver Entertainment port? Join the discussion on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

IGN Previews Mortal Kombat 11 for Nintendo Switch
The initial verdict for first Nintendo port in over a decade!

A twelve year drought ends when Mortal Kombat 11 brings the legendary fighting game series back to Nintendo consoles for the first time since Armageddon! The Switch version was on display at PAX East and IGN shared their thoughts on the playable port. Watch the verdict right here:

Innate limitations of the hardware have raised questions amongst a hesitant fanbase, but based on the impressions of IGN reviewers Brian Altano and Daemon Hatfield, the verdict is looking positive. The tailored experience of the handheld mode reports no glaring issues, with standard player preferences subject to the individual.

Creative Director Ed Boon told Gameinformer that the Switch port will run at 60fps. Initial concerns about a delayed released seem to have been put to rest, as well. IGN reports a same-day console launch on April 23rd for the Shiver Entertainment developed port.

The Science of Mortal Kombat Ep 4: Get Over Here!
The effectiveness of bad manners is tested.

The Science of Mortal Kombat has been dragging the fantastic over-the-top attacks of Mortal Kombat into the cold light of day to bludgeon them with real-world practicality. After slaying several fatalities it's time to test one of MK's most iconic moves: Scorpion's so-called spear! GET OVER HERE (and watch):

Science of Mortal Kombat Ep 4 | Behind The Scences

The plausible pulling of a slender, stylized kunai stabbed intoneck flesh isn't on trial on here. Can he do it without his foe falling flat on their face?

Kollector Debuts in Mortal Kombat 11 Reveal Trailer
New fighter comes to kollect!

Kollector is the latest new face revealed for Mortal Kombat 11! He's collecting tribute for Emperor Shao Kahn and makes his deadly debut in the newest gameplay reveal trailer! Watch:

Mortal Kombat X showed us more of what's outside the window in the complicated realm of Outworld. Somewhere amongst the Osh-Tekk, Kytinn, Tarkatan, and Shokan empires lies a species purportedly known as the Naknada. Of this species, Kollector once served Shao Kahn, gathering tribute from across his vast empire of conquests. It seems not everyone is enthused about paying up as he battles Baraka and new emperor Kotal Kahn in the trailer!

When collection gets tough, this six-armed fighter deftly wields an arsenal of disparate tools he presumably gathered over his travels. A lantern, sickle, bolas, kukri knife, and mechanical claw orb are some of the weapons he wields to control the horizontal and vertical space of the fighting arena! When victory is in hand, he puts his extra appendages to work, literally tearing his opponent apart!

Kollector was previously spotted by Emperor Shao Kahn's side in the MK11 Story Mode Trailer. Once you've watched his gameplay in action, freeze time to examine the finer details of his design in official character render art!

Kollector joins playable newcomers Cetrion and Geras when the game ships for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC starting April 23rd! Share your first impressions and join the discussion on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

Kollector Mortal Kombat 11 Character Render & Bio
Pay tribute to Outworld's newest fighter!

Outworld has a dangerous new denizen in Mortal Kombat 11 and he's a holdover from the reign of Emperor Shao Kahn! Take a closer look at the walking mixed bag that is the Kollector in the latest official character render!

Apparently Shokan warriors don't have the market cornered when it comes to multi-armed fighting in Outworld! Despite sharing the same number of limbs in combat as an icon like Goro (two are occupied holding his backpack), the gangly grey-blue Kollector bares little in common with any kombatant we've seen to date! Update: Along with the reveal trailer, Warner Bros have provided a brief bio for the new fighter:

A new fighter joining the Mortal Kombat franchise, The Kollector was born into poverty and seized his collections duty with a zeal that impressed Shao Kahn, becoming one of the Emperor's most feared associates. As more of a corrupt, mafia enforcer than a government official, The Kollector stole riches from Outworld's people, rewarding himself with wealth and status in turn, but when Shao Kahn died, Kotal Kahn vowed to weed out the former regime's corruption. After years in hiding, living off his ill-gotten gains, The Kollector was captured and now faces execution, determined to destroy anyone in his path.

His attire shares similar fabric textures and sewed panels to various other fighters in MK11, but a predominently navy and black wardrobe, adorned with gold trinkets, implies his role as a seeker of tributes to the Emperor. A dark hood and extra, taloned limbs might invite comparison to D'Vorah, but there's a more romantic, Arabian trader's vibe to Kollector's outfitting. Indeed, he might look at home in the sun drenched Outworld Marketplace: introduced in Mortal Kombat X as characteristic of Kotal Kahn's ordered rule. That may just be because he reminds us slightly of a Star Wars prequel character. It sounds as if Kotal won't take kindly to Kollector's particular brand of gathering!

Kollector expands upon the patchwork makeup of Outworld's realm. Check out official character renders for some of its other inhabitants, such as Kotal Kahn, Jade, Erron Black, D'Vorah, and downloadable character Shao Kahn. Kollect 'em all and discuss each new design on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

Official Mortal Kombat 11 Mini-Bios Updated
5 new character bios prime kombatants!

Five new Mortal Kombat 11 mini-bios have been added to the official website, leaving just eight characters unaccounted for on the present menu of twenty-nine options. This includes an official English translation for the Jax blurb mistakenly posted in German, last month. Read on:

Bios for Shaolin Monks Kung Lao and Liu Kang place emphasis on their living selves, despite Kung Lao being pictured in his revenant design. Kung Lao is also credited with the defeat of a "deadly alliance" between Shang Tsung and Quan Chi from the reboot -- loaded terminology for fans of the original timeline. Kotal Kahn will apparently wrestle with the noble difficulties of leading Outworld's denizens toward a better future, while Noob Saibot is free to pursue his own goals upon the death of Quan Chi.

Kung Lao (Respect)
Shaolin monk and descendant of Great Kung Lao. The younger Kung Lao claimed his greatness by beating the deadly alliance of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat. Reckless and rebellious, but courageous and indomitable, Kung Lao fights to prove worthy of his glorious ancestors.

Jax Briggs (Duty)
Cyber-enhanced officer of the Special Forces. Jax Briggs lost both arms in the line of duty, but he came back to the battlefield twice as strong thanks to cybernetic upgrades. Even with that power, Jax’s sacrifices burden him. He soldiers onward, honorbound to protect Earthrealm.

Kotal Kahn (Order)
Osh-Tekk warrior and Emperor of Outworld. Years ago, Kotal saved the Empire from chaos and claimed the throne of Kahn. Now his reign is plagued by rising tensions at home and abroad. Determined to keep order, Kotal wrestles with the temptation to exercise the same brutal tactics as his predecessors.

Noob Saibot (Recognition)
Shadow of the Netherrealm. In life, Noob Saibot was known as Sub-Zero. Unjustly murdered by Scorpion, he was resurrected by Quan Chi and granted power over darkness, but as Quan Chi’s slave. Now, Quan Chi is dead. Noob Saibot is finally free to reclaim the honor that was stolen from him.

Liu Kang (Responsibility)
Shaolin monk and Champion of Earthrealm. Liu Kang was an orphan adopted and trained in the arts of kombat by the Shaolin order. He honored them by defeating Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat and saving Earthrealm as "the Chosen One," a title that weighs heavy on his shoulders.

You can catch up with the sixteen prior mini-bios released, as well as reveal trailers for Noob Sabiot, Kotal Kahn, and Liu Kang, Kung Lao & Jax! The next chapter in each warrior's story arrives for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC starting April 23rd! Which new background summary has you most anticipating the fighter's return? Weigh-in on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!

Gameinformer Interviews Ed Boon About Mortal Kombat 11
166 questions, 17 minutes, no time saved!

Gameinformer has dedicated the month to MK in honor of their Mortal Kombat 11 cover story. An exclusive Cetrion Reveal Trailer has been followed by a snappy interview with creative lead Ed Boon. It's well worth a watch, with plenty of surprising topics covered, including meetings with Marvel, moviemakers, and more:

166 Rapid-Fire Questions with Mortal Kombat 11's Ed Boon may sound like a lot, but at a breezy seventeen and a half minutes -- it's a jam-packed pleasure with tidbits ranging from the obscure and comic, to the very juicy!

Incoming boss Kronika will be the series' first ultimate threat who is female, but that decision was a recent one. During development she was a male threat possibly called "Kroniko", but they thought it would be cooler to switch. It's certainly fresh! She will also introduce an entity that is higher than an Elder God, confirmed through her reported parentage to newcomer Cetrion. That's a surprising development -- much more so than the general population's obliviousness to the existence of deities, who have always been selective about who they approach.

Boon offered a very definitive 25 characters for the starting playable roster of Mortal Kombat 11, with "thirty-something" by conclusion suggesting more than the confirmed six DLC additions. He tips pre-order incentive Shao Kahn to be an early Evo Championship favourite. And, yes: the roster has leaked.

Mokap, referenced in a Cassie intro, will likely never return. Ed revisited the revelation that The Matrix's Neo nearly featured in Injustice 2, and welcomed the prospect of featuring a crossover character from WB developer Rocksteady Studios.

Easy fatality micro-transactions, first introduced in Mortal Kombat X, and playfully acknowledged by Boon as a "necessary evil", will return in MK11. As previously noted, "loot boxes" will not be part of the gear system. There won't be cross-platform play available at launch, but the developer is not opposed to the idea.

Boon's favourite gear in MK11 is, perhaps unsurprisingly, klassic Scorpion. However, he says watching the character he's voiced since series inception battle Sub-Zero isn't fun any more. That might have something to do with taking little more than a week from thinking about MK! On that classic voice, he reveals the famous catch cry "Get over here!" was a holdover from High Impact Football - a game he was working on before MK. Players shout and holler during the game, and Boon's voice contributions there bled over to his time working on the '92 fighter.

Story mode cut scenes will span an estimated two and a half hours, with an unknown number of multiple outcomes confirmed. Previous talk of an eight hour playtime won't be extended by Quick Time Events - there are none.

Sadly, the importance of in-fiction tournaments seem to be a thing of the past. The developer says it hasn't been as tempting to return to the plot device since the "first ten years". A little disappointing for those of us enticed by the prospect of Kotal Kahn's Outworld contesting a new tournament, as teased by MKX endings. Despite all that, Boon suggests MK's klassic champion Liu Kang may yet emerge as MK11's most important character. [We shall see!]

The age old question of what encompasses a realm doesn't have a definitive answer, but the plane known as "Earthrealm" encompasses neighbouring planets, such as Mars, without 'physical limitation'. Those who've perceived realms as esoteric dimensional realities will be pleased. We've seen strange new locations since the first trailer, but Boon confirms no new realms will be introduced in MK11. If you're wondering, he forgot Outworld when naming the key realms, overlooking more obscure offshoots like Vaeternus, the vampire realm.

If you noticed the different look to Krushing Blows, Boon confirms they run at 30 frames per second while the rest of the game is 120. An aesthetic decision. Switch versions will be 60fps, as already noted. User selected Factions won't be making a return in MK11, but new modes will offer players ways to tag team boss fights, and Boon showed interest in concepts relating to persistent online play.

Boon confirmed he attended a meeting concerning the new Mortal Kombat movie around five months ago, where a script was present. The existence of early drafts has sparked controversial rumors already knocked back by Boon, who shares the prospect for disappointment in a poor live-action translation: "In the wrong hands... I wanted to get killed." We'll assume that's a shoutout to Annihilation.

Surprisingly, Boon says there has been talk with Disney and/or Marvel Entertainment with regards to a Marvel versus DC video game! A majority 45% of 117,286 fans polled on Twitter chose the concept as their preferred crossover game, beating out the long sought after MK vs Street Fighter, and horror movie mash-up. These types of crossovers are common for DC Comics, but it's now been fifteen years since the last time the two comic book companies played nice for JLA/Avengers. Even so, Warner Bros has handled the Marvel license in video games, publishing the popular Lego series.

If you've desired something different from the developer - all hope is not lost. Boon puts the desire to work on a new IP at a 9.6/10! He discussed an interest in exploring new persistent online gameplay: "There's something about persistence and, like, how we'd deal with somebody, y'know - turning off the game, going to sleep, you know. I'd love to have something where you have to hide -- hide your body.somewhere while you're not playing, and if somebody finds it, they loot it, or kill you, or something, like that. Something where you're nervous to not play the game for too long." An interesting concept, if a slightly terrifying glimpse into the future of capitalism and gaming.

An HD Shaolin Monks elicited a strong "I wish" from the developer, who thinks that'd be awesome. It remains a possibility requiring coordination. He was also a fan of Armageddon's Motor Kombat kart racing mini-game, describing a belief that dedicated development could've produced a satisfying release. He floats the prospect of a mobile release -- a good choice!

It's unlikely, but not impossible, that the developer will ever revisit a three-dimensional fighting plane, ala Deadly Alliance. Likewise, there have never been any serious considerations to take the series into the Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) genre. As we know, there have been serious attempts to explore a new game using live-action digitized sprites, but Boon isn't convinced it would endure as more than a week-long novelty. It's hard to argue.

The evasively titled Mortal Kombat X is now the highest selling title in the series' history, reacking up an estimated 11 million units sold! That's a lazy 6 million more than the Wall Street Journal's report, in 2015! Surprisingly, the team never seriously considered any title other than Mortal Kombat 11.

Cetrion Debuts in Gameinformer Mortal Kombat 11 Trailer
Enter: Elemental Elder Goddess!

Rumors of her existence have been swirling for months. Now Gameinformer has the exclusive reveal trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 newcomer: Cetrion! Watch the powerful new fighter unleash her vast powers right here:

The Gameinformer article tells us Cetrion has deep ties to the realm of Earth - and it shows! Throughout the trailer she wields a potent arsenal of nature's basic elements: vegetation, earth, water, wind, and a little fire for good measure.

According to NetherRealm Studios; Cetrion is an Elder Goddess! That fact is well supported by a fatality that sees the elemental warrior grow to massive proportions and leave the confines of the arena. She then obliterates her opponent by breathing a golden beam of sun-like energy through them -- from outer space!

We've seen these often apathetic high-ranking deities throughout MK's history, but this will be the first time players have been able to wield the threat of their power, if indeed Cetrion remains an Elder God. Shinnok and Raiden have each held the title of Elder God in the past, but either lost - or relinquished - their mantle through events that brought them to playable status.

The cosmic presentation of Cetrion's fatality is just one of the aspects that will inevitably draw comparisons to NetherRealm's DC Comics fighting series: Injustice. Some of Cetrion's movements and visualized relationship with plantlife immediately bring to mind Injustice 2 villain Poison Ivy. The prominent use of earth, wind, and water will no doubt also get fans talking about absent MK fighters Tremor, Fujin, and Rain. You might say NetherRealm is playing with fire with the elements assembled for this one!

The trailer sees Cetrion battle Jade, who confesses her apparent love for a returning Kotal Kahn. The pair could be seen fighting together in the Story Mode Trailer, but what sprouts the bud of Jade's affection remains to be seen.

The exclusive trailer is part of a month of coverage from Gameinformer, headed by a cover story featuring Cetrion's rumored parent Kronika and Raiden. It begs the question: If Kronika's daughter is an Elder Goddess -- what does that make Kahn? You can tell us all your thoughts about this new fighter on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum!
